Why is VPN so fucking expensive?

Why is VPN so fucking expensive?

why do you even need a VPN?

If you have a job its pretty easy to manage if you dont spend your wages on dumb shit. If you're a neet well, you deserve it.

Because this is America and not some fucking gulag where various government agencies can walk into your room, take your computer, and fist your ass.

I'm from Russia

I thought Russia banned VPNs

why so defensive?

>$1 a day for 100 mbit VPS
>putty curl

s/and not some fucking gulag //

It wouldn't be so bad if there were more VPN's that could match by 1gbit speeds.

By using a VPN full time, I'm effectively paying for lower speeds.

Because they have to provide tech support to braindead consumers.

Everything is expensive to you third world Ivan.

>$3/month
>expensive
Nigga

It banned the companies who don't comply with ISP laws, not VPNs in general.

choose a cheaper vpn

Are free VPN services shit?

The quote if you dont pay for a product you are the product comes to mind

subtle :^)

Free VPN is more useless than using your bare IP. They monitor the FUCK out of you. I remember I used some free shit once, and got banned within like 2 minutes of posting a 2D loli image. I refreshed the page and it said something about illegal child porn uploaded.

It was probably the dumbest thing I could've done.

it is expensive you f'ing reddit users.
for $3 you can get a VPS 1core/512mb ram/10gb ssd disk/hundreds of mbps of bandwidth and several TB of traffic.
$3 for a canned services _is_ fucking expensive.

that's for idiots who don't want to setup their own vps and setup their own VPN...
oh wait.. it's difficult to apt install pptpd/openvpn.

You know what else I can get for 3$? A single freshly made sandwich from the bakery next door. 3$ nowadays is fucking nothing.

You paying 28-31$ per month for this?

>or $3 you can get a VPS 1core/512mb ram/10gb ssd disk/hundreds
When you pay for these, you're getting access to thousands of nodes, not just a single host.

If I get banned on 4ch, I just hop to a different node. I have about 50 backup IP's I can use which aren't banned and work fast.

Virtualized, with datacenter somewhere in LA

LOL wtf?

I pay $4.50-5.50/month for a VPS with a multigigabit per second bandwidth. 1TB/month transfer at that price.

1TB/month transfer at that price.
>data limit.
That sucks.

i think i paid aroun $120 USD in bitcoin to a completeley anonymous VPN provider that didnt need anything more than an email address to sign up.
I have access to 60+ vpn's across the world now.
uses openvpn

>1 shitty meme server that you have to set up and maintain yourself
>vs 4090 enterprise grade servers ready to go & maintained by a team of experienced professionals 24/7

you also only have a single ip address

Meh, not a huge deal for me personally.
I'm using my VPS as a proxy to avoid peering congestion and occasional IP blocks.
My torrents run through a different proxy at about $3/month. Unlimited data use, but bandwidth is more variable (still generally 400-600mbps though).

Home connection is $70/month 1gbps without a data cap.

It's a big deal for me. It would be completely unusable for me, as I use 3TB minimum a month. I guess I could be selective about what I use it with..or just use an actual provider that is dedicated to being a VPN and doesn't have data limits.

>I'm using my VPS as a proxy
Most VPN providers offer using them as a Socks5 proxy as well. This is great, because I can set it up so that only my POST request uses the VPN proxy, while my regular fast IP loads all the images + threads.

What VPN so you guys use? My Mullvad sub is running out next month, is there anything better?

>1 server that you can entirely control the logging of
>vs data mining HQ

iuno, maybe because they are designed to handle 100% of your web traffic securely and without interruption and the server time to maintain that is probably more than you pay if you actually maxed out your utilization

These companies have a vested interest in NOT data mining you or keeping logs that could be subpoenaed.
There are still some companies that I'm sure do this anyway, but others don't.

>1 server that you can entirely control the logging of
more like 1 virtualized server in a data center where everything is logged

pay a vpn service with great possibility that your ip has been abused by someone else before you,
or even better most sites ban vpn providers... e.g. Jow Forums.
>maintained by a team of experienced professionals 24/7
suppose you have debian in your vps.
here's how to be an experienced professional will add vpn to your vps
1: aptitude install pptpd
2: open : emacs /etc/ppp/chap-secrets
3: add user "user pptpd anon123 *"
4: open : emacs /etc/pptpd.conf
5: and give yourself an ip:
localip 10.0.0.1
remoteip 10.0.0.100-200
6: set net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1 in /etc/sysctl.conf
7: restart the service : service pptpd restart
8: enjoy.

>your ip has been abused by someone else before you
other people using it = good. means my behavior isnt unique

>most sites ban vpn providers... e.g. Jow Forums.
Jow Forums is the only site that I know of that bans VPN's, which doesn't even matter to me, because like I said, I have 50+ nodes from my VPN which all work on Jow Forums, and I'm sure as hell not about to say what provider I use either.

I use ProtonVPN. You really should do your own research though. thatoneprivacysite.net and privacytools.io are good places to start.

Tons of sites blanket range ban all widely used VPN services, and many times they'll block VPS service's IP ranges as well

>using a non-tor "free vpn"

I only use my VPN on sketchy sites, and those sites don't ban them, so that's all that matters.

>13 yold detected
how is mommies basement? get a job nigger

This might be a stupid question but why don't more people make their own vpn with a vps or a pi? Do paid VPNs have any advantages besides ease of use or setup? I was thinking about buying a pi and making my own instead of buying a service.

Attached: 1524524068415.jpg (720x720, 216K)

The advantage is the availability of IPs.

A VPS uses only 1 IP address unless you're paying for more.
A raspi has the same issue, it'll only have access to whatever IP you're hosting it on, so if you have it set up at home you'd just have a VPN to your own IP address

Make your own, you'll realize that it's pretty cheap
