It's incredibly easy to download images in batch from Sankaku. Maybe you just need to git gud.
The only issue is when you try to download too many (~500 images) too fast they'll throw 429 errors at you and make you wait a few minutes before trying again, but waiting ~10 seconds between requests fixes that problem.

You get timed out after 10 images. This is how I know you're full of shit.

Must be doing it wrong then, because I download thousands of images from them at a time every week.

Not anymore, you are only allowed to download 64MB a day from san subscriptions globally. The reasoning is that the dev got contacted by san and they said they don't want competition for their android app.

sankaku is the only booru with proper tagging for western shit. It doesn't matter either way since the defaults for syncing are retarded. It checks one page after another and stops when it has 500 images for the initial sync, there is a checkbox to fetch all images but guess what, that thing doesn't work and it still stops at 500. Now you would think that it would fetch the remaining images in the next scheduled sync, right? Nope, it will only search from page 1 again and stops syncing as soon as it hits a known image hash.
hydrus is basically useless to collect artist with proper tags because of this.

Well, sankaku is currently developing an actual API for their mobile app so perhaps that can be used instead of that primitive page fetching.

Just to note, that 500 image limit only applies to sankaku, gelbooru and others get all images if you selected that checkbox so it is probably because of pressure from sankaku devs.

go to sankaku, open userscript manager and look for the setting in the registered settings menu

Yeah, I can't test it properly at the moment because of the 64MB limit but it still stops at 500 images in every sub and ignores the checkbox to remove that limit. And the downloader is working that way according to the docs.

You don't "enable" anything, just go to subscriptions and set your search query up for the booru you want.

Also don't forget to enable all tags in the tag import options. You should add sane defaults in the normal options since the hydrus dev is not exactly helpful with the defaults.

There is no search function. You literally put the same thing you write in the box of the booru site into the query, make sure the site is selected in the dropdown and click apply.
You seem confused, this is only a downloaded with a databse. Not some webbrowser replacement.

Did you not use the "add" button to add a query? You can add as many queries as you want to a subscription. Every query acts as its own download and accepts the same input as the original site.

I think sankaku fucks people over a ton by disallowing saving a lot, and also I don't think I can view image source without an account. But the "users who liked this also liked" or however function under images is so extremely useful, it's like tvtropes for porn, minus the fake articles. It's genius, really.

I still need to use gelbooru as my main booru, though, to confirm if an image is from pixiv, pawoo, twitter etc. Like I said, I think that info on sankaku is locked behind having an account, but they don't communicate that to me, so it's just worse in practice to me than gelbooru. But you shouldn't support gelbooru; they don't load thumbnails until you scroll the page over it, so it's slow, and they selectively delete bullshit for false reasons all the time. For example:

Was this really the most concerning image on the site to delete due to a western artist? Compared to all the league of legends artwork by western artists? This had over 300 score before it was deleted. Shit like this happens all the time on gelbooru. They ban toddlercon because of perverts in the comments, but loli is still allowed. Screencaps are even deleted, but only sometimes, since they still have the tag up. Western artwork is deleted, but their artist tag will still have tons under it, as is the case in my example link. Gelbooru is shit. Use adblock if you touch it.

It used to be deleted due to "poor photoshop" or whatever the wording it. It's literally an official version, complete with respect to shadow, containing another background character, and everything. But some faggot disliked futa, so he called it a "shitty futanari edit" and reported it, and a mod agreed. But today this artist's entire gallery is purged due to the pics supposedly coming from a paysite. I complained about this on another board, though, so that's the only archive of my complaint maybe seeming true.

Either way I don't like them. There's no excuse for any of the bullshit I'm criticizing them for. If gelbooru becomes conventionally unusable, I'd only hope a site with integrity replaces them (and is capable of being image searched via iqdb and saucenao).

I've been saying this for years, just fork a much much much better version of Pixiv like 2ch to Jow Forums. Pixiv might not have the greatest design or layout but in some areas, it still has some nice fucking ideas on how an image site should be. Maybe something like a merge between a booru design and a Pixiv design. Something where the actual artist can safely upload their works insted of random people scraping from various sites fucking up the hash and uploading them to sifferent boorus. You get your nice booru design along with the autistic tagging community and when you check the creator/artist tag you can go to that artist page or whatever. An account system would be needed though for obvious reasons. Payment system could be used to compensate for the ads maybe by how much a user/artist plans to upload, something like several bucks for like an extra 500GB or something.
