At least it still shows up on the catalog, but the last thread was three-away from 404ing, cut him some slack.

A more relevant criticism to me is the thread pic could have been an arousing anime grill, but instead it's ironically bad

What does windows 10 do to a LAN connection that windows 7 didn't. Please help a brainlet out here, I'm trying to get a LAN party with a few friends working.

Not necessary

What's the issue you're having? What is the configuration? Try disabling all home group crap and make sure everyone has the network set to private and that everyone has a valid DHCP lease.

Ahoy Jow Forumsuys
I recently remembered that this fucking bullshit pops up whenever I boot into my debian install. I set this on purpose when I was diagnosing the shitty Broadcomm chip. However, it was like a year+ ago and I can't seem to remember how I did it.
How the fuck do I get rid of it?

are youtube videos best for learning R?

What's a good manga reader/viewer for windows 10? I remember seeing one recommended on here but I can't remember what its called. Also do computer manga readers work like the ones on android/IOS apps where you just click and download from some random site?

It worked, user! Thank you so much. I had no idea this was even be possible, given that I googled for a literal hour, and only found fruitless answers. Thanks again. This seriously would just be impossible for me to discover without your taking the time to help me. Also, I've been embarrassed about the autistic names I give everything etc. but it's kind of inherent to demonstrating that it worked, so here's a screenshot of what you gave me being run.

There was only one error, and I'm not sure how to copy it, but I could have cropped it, changed window size etc. I assume it's from the shortcut being broken.

Well actually, I think something went horribly wrong here. I don't know how to copy the entire powershell text, but I'm lucky I ran this on a copy of my folder filled with shortcuts, because the folder now has 123 files, but the original has 159. Are you still there, user? I dunno what happened.

I'm having a large chunk of CSV file (~15 million rows, ~30 GB data). What's the most efficient way to work with them?

Why is cloudflare a thing?
It dosent even stop DDoS at all, everytime cloudflase services get DDoS'd the service is never up.
Right now cloudflare servesr are fucking up images for Jow Forums, and has all this month
WHY IS CLOUDFLARE A THING?
ITS JUST A MIDDLE MAN THAT PLAYS WITH YOUR RIGHTS

Tbqh I have no idea how to operate powershell. The only reason it ran the script in the first place is becuase I swear I was just right-clicking when it copied the script from my clipoard and ran it. I just did the "execution policy change" you mentioned, and was about to run it again, but clicking around isn't working so I need to google how.

>Right now cloudflare servesr are fucking up images for Jow Forums
the error message (which is sent to you by cloudflare) says they couldn't contact the Jow Forums image server
it's not cloudflare's fault
>ITS JUST A MIDDLE MAN THAT PLAYS WITH YOUR RIGHTS
why do you say this like it's the truth when you clearly know nothing about it

By default windows opens .ps1 files by executing them, but you can change that (mine opens them in an editor.) I usually work with short scripts like this by copy+pasting them into a powershell prompt, but either way works.

As for the issue, my first guesses are
1) potentially funny paths, eg with square brackets or special characters
2) broken shortcuts that windows hasn't auto-resolved for some reason (it seems to auto-fix them for me usually)

I've modified the script to better handle bad shortcuts (it will skip them and leave the shortcut in place to fix them/whatever and re-run the script.) I've also changed it to better handle strange characters in paths (the -LiteralPath arg).

If you get errors, you can select text in the powershell window and paste it here or at pastebin so we can debug further.

$simulate = $true;
$directory = "D:\inc\test shortcuts";

$shortcuts = gci -Path $directory -Recurse -Filter *lnk;
$shell = New-Object -ComObject WScript.Shell;
foreach ($shortcut in $shortcuts) {
$link = $shell.CreateShortcut($shortcut.FullName);
echo "copy $($link.TargetPath) $($shortcut.Directory.FullName)";
echo "rm $($shortcut.FullName)";
if ($simulate -ne $true) {
try {
copy -LiteralPath $link.TargetPath $shortcut.Directory.FullName -ErrorAction Stop;
rm -LiteralPath $shortcut.FullName;
} catch {
write-host -ForegroundColor Red "Error replacing shortcut, skipping.`n$($_.Exception)";
}
}
}

I live in a university-affiliated apartment complex and don't have access to the routers - there's just wifi and ethernet ports in the walls.
I can't set up an online webserver, right? I can only connect over LAN?

Is there life after death?

I misread this before, yeah, right-clicking in a powershell prompt does a paste. Depending on the whether you copied a final newline or not in the script you might need to hit ENTER to execute it.

Why cant i upload any images anymore?
I get this error
Corrupt image or error reading metadata

I uploaded the same pics just yesterday.
Doing a conversation from png to jpg or jpg to png does not resolve the problem either
What the hell?

What would be a good old gpu to buy so I can use openBSD in 4k?

Pre-rendered 4k you would be fine with a 970 or higher

I assume you're Who knows how theyve setup their network, the easiest thing IMO would be to have your own separate switch/hub/access point you could all plug into.

You can setup private network over the net (VPN), i used hamachi many years ago to LAN like that, but it was a pain and im sure there are better programs these days.

Getting it to work over your uni's network sounds hard. Perhaps check you're all on the same subnet? If not that would be an issue.

no idea but maybe related to the image server dying the other day and the big notice at the top of the page "Image posting is back. Expecting a more permanent fix soon!"

I wanna get an old PC for FTP server / seedbox / diaspora pod / TeamSpeak server duties.

I've found 2 so far with 4GB ddr3 ram, 180W PSU and gigabit ethernet, the only difference being the CPUs

Core2duo E7500 or i3-2120

The first is 50 bucks, the second is 115. I'm a poorfag, so would the cheap one suffice or should I get the i3?

I'm the dumbo with the "win32webviewhost.exe" in my Windows folder.

Really interesting developments;
>download VMWare Workstation Player
>install Windows 1709 (Fall Creators Update) ISO in a new virtual machine
>search C: drive for "win32webviewhost"
>0 (ZERO) results
>check windows update and 1803 (April Spring Update) gets installed
>search C: drive again for "win32webviewhost"
>finds it instantly

HMMMMMMMMM

Thanks for the patience and the effort, user. Because seriously, without you I'd just be a fish out of water in this entire topic. Also, my browser froze for like 10 mins, then my computer for 6. Not due to your help, just my piece of shit computer period. It's not so bad when it's working, but sometimes it won't.

Anyway, yeah, sorry, I switched window focus from it then back to it, and right clicking worked. There were no errors this time, but the output was still only 123 files, when there were 159 shortcuts it were fed. I was about to open a new powershell (cause until that point I was stacking commands in the same one, complete with accidental copy pastes of my unfinished Jow Forums posts to you), and was going to paste the stuff after it ran in a pastebin to share, but then my computer froze, so now I reformatted to reply to you. I was also going to try using the "ShortcutsSearchAndReplace" thing I found earlier, hoping it'd resolve the shortcuts for me, but I don't know how to use it, and won't want to waste your time trying to figure it out in the dark.

I actually didn't even do anything this time except run your new script (I think I manually opened the file that didn't work earlier, though, to resolve it) and now the command output 158/159 files. I mean I could paste all of it, but I don't see anything to look at besides the folder names and filenames of my stuff. Pic related. Also:

my.mixtape.moe/auznay.png
The only error one missing was a single shortcut that wasn't resolved, as opposed to the old script which skipped like 40. All I have to do is open this shortcut manually (since I must've changed the filename of its target, and it didn't fix it itself), and it'll gain its thumbnail, and your script will work for it. So this is basically the extent of what a script on this could do, beyond resolving broken shortcuts, but I used a program that did that once, and it fucked up the targets anyway, and I had to manually fix them.

Well I ran out of space here, but I meant to also say sorry for my autism folder names that are slightly visible, and for the ramble-y post. I interrupted myself so many times while making it. Thanks for helping me depsite myself, though. Much love.

>970
>nvidia

user, you do know I said OpenBSD right?

Hey Jow Forums what's this

So if i understand, the 123/159 files problem mysteriously fixed itself and you now only get 1 error - an unresolved modified shortcut - which you've fixed manually?

No dramas mate, nice horrifying porn collection. Learning powershell is a good idea if you find yourself doing repetitive tasks like this, its saved me a boatload of time.

>CSV
If i had to deal with 30GB of CSV files i'd write an app (not a shell script) to read manageable chunks of it one at a time for processing. What do you need to do with it?

I dont understand whats going on with Chrome. If for example I click a picture here on Jow Forums it opens in the page I am currently browsing. Lets say I open a picture in this thread it will overstep over the thread and all I will have is the picture on the page. This started happening sometime ago but I am going crazy when I see I cant find the reason why. Anyone experienced this? This also happens in other websites, lets say I want to open a picture on for example fallout wiki it will do the same behavior instead of just opening in a small window in the middle of the screen.

just installed a 2600x. It's idling at 50C, is that alright?

I want a low power NAS -- what are some good solutions? The lower the power, the better. Want some redundancy, so 2 drives at minimum, but 4 preferred.

This is just planning/future proofing idea stage atm.
1. Install Server 2012R2 Essentials (for storage spaces/Refs file system mostly)
2. Run virtual instance of current server os/client backup drive in Server 2012 Hyper-V as guest (via Disk2VHD). Thus will maintain current client pc's connections/keep all backups valid/useable/keep user accounts unchanged.
3. Setup shares/user accounts/etc on server 2012 storage pool volume. Restore all data to volume. Or somehow pass the volume to the "virtual os" and setup everything on the "virtual server" This is the sticking part, how to pass the server 2012 storage pool volume to the virtual os so it will see it in disk manger/be able to format it and thus be shared out from the virtual os.

Well user some people believe that there is life after death and others do not. As for what kind of life is difficult to answer. Like the Buddhist/Hindus that believe in the concept of reincarnation. A transformation of what you once were to something completely different (from human to cow etc). Or the Christians who believe in the soul being given divine judgement to either end up in heaven, hell, or purgatory. There are others who don't believe in the after life, that you just "shut off" never to move again and wait for the body to rot sort of people like atheist. Although this rotting could then lead to you becoming worm food and nutrients for the soil which would then give life to the grass, flowers, and trees which in a way is sort of like reincarnation in a way. A better question would be do we hold any sort of consciousness after death. Are we the soul inside or the rest of the body? If I was to die and there is an after life would I even remember my past life. Is the soul a being that gives life to an empty vessel or is it just simple energy that floats around? And if ghosts are real do they have any recollection of their past life. A lot of times we hear of ghosts who lament something bad that ended their life but do they ever think "hey let me stop being sad or scared for 2 minutes and go take a peek at the local sorority change room". There's a lot of questions that come about from talking about a topic like this so if you have any more questions I would be happy to answer. But for the original question you asked, in short I simply do not know for certain, though personally I do believe there is life after death as I had a few experiences with people and an animal who passed that can't fully be explained in a rational way. Also why would you ask a question like that here (in case its not a shitpost) are you dying user are you scared of what lies ahead?

I plugged my SDR into a Dish LNBF and couldn't find any satellite signals. Why is this?

Do you have a bias tee to power the LNB?

Sorry, I'm not that user. I just want to host my website myself, and some other things just for fun

What is up with Android and Bluetooth volume control? I connect my phone to a Bluetooth speaker, but when I adjust the volume even once, the volume goes super loud.

Looking for a cheap laptop to play videogames on.
Which is better, an i5 with a 256 GB SSD but no HDD or an i7 with a 1TB HDD.
In terms of storage, the 1tb would be better but would the SSD combined with the i5 be faster than the i7 for videogames?

Well for games, the most important thing is the graphics capabilities.

Which specific i5 and i7 models are they?
I ask because an i7 beats out an i5 of the same year, but as far as games go, an i5-6xxx will almost certainly beat out an i7-2xxx, because of the newer integrated graphics unit.

The main issue is that my current setup has been working flawlessly for several years now. I'd hate to uproot something and redo the whole setup if it's fine as is. Just trying to beef up the "online" storage to work in conjunction with the current setup as to gain even more protection for my data and potentially allow ease of expansion down the road. Yeah I could just setup a freenas or other ZFS nas and just dump my data on it but everything I got works with windows and as I stated thus far the whole kit (server/backups/media streaming/etc) has been flawless. Keeping a ZFS nas as a backup archive has potential but it has little good if the main server's data doesn't have the same level of protection on it. Any errors would get passed on to the ZFS archive.

user, I'm too pessimistic to read your reply, but I ended up sharing your script in a Hydrus thread, where I still don't think anyone else would be in my situation, but I posted it anyway:

https:// eight ch.net/hydrus/res/5187.html#8744

Here's a cap of it anyway. The only thing is maybe the set executionpolicy thing wasn't necessary; I didn't communicate the "if" wording you used, and I wasn't sure myself if it was absolutely necessary. So I spoke as if it was.

I think links to that site are not allowed here, so the "eight" needs to be replaced with "8", and the spaced removed...

Now I know why it wasn't working. Thank you

How high does it go under heavy load?
As a very general rule of thumb, you're fine as long as it stays under 90C at all times

I'm asking here because I'm really out of ideas and no solution online works.

Today all of my wireless mice decided to stop working. Their connections are fine, the cables inside are fine, the batteries are fully charged, everything should work but nothing happens.

I've tried three different and not even the laser light for movement activates. The usb dongles are recognized by my PC but that's it.

I can't even use a restore point because I got some 0x80070005 error message.
I kinda fixed that restoring the point in Safe mode but then I got another one with a restoring half done and still none of the mice works.

Attached: 765432.jpg (300x300, 15K)

what fuckin laptop should I get for music production? I'm poor and need something around $350-400, preferably with an SSD as well

I think I will need to read data from it. I've tried to import it to SQLite, but the speed is kinda meh. What language should I use, by the way?

Thanks for confirming it worked. It's not my business but, if you read this, no need to be so hard on yourself.

I've been trying to find old accounts I don't use anymore and found one on a sketchy as fuck site called BlogTalkRadio. I requested a password change and logged in, but there was no option to delete. I clicked the help section and firefox told me the connection wasn't secure, but I really want my account deleted so I allowed an exception anyway. The help page looked legit and everything, but it still didn't have any info with how to actually delete my account. Two questions:

>How the fuck do I actually get out of this site's system?
>How likely is it I will get hacked or get a virus if it's actually a malicious site?

I feel violated as fuck and am panicking, please help Jow Forums

>>How the fuck do I actually get out of this site's system?
Your browser should have a settings option where you can see all certificates you made an exception for. should be able to delete it from there

>>How likely is it I will get hacked or get a virus if it's actually a malicious site?
basically zero. you requested a password change and used that link, so there's no chance of one of your real, in-use passwords being leaked.
malicious ads maybe, but if you are using an ad blocker it shouldn't be a problem.

Not sure I understand. To clarify, they sent me a confirmation email, I followed it, changed the password and logged in, then attempted to delete the account. Am I still safe?

>Your browser should have a settings option where you can see all certificates you made an exception for. should be able to delete it from there
Can the certificate itself do anything malicious? Is it stored on my PC?

Yeah, you're still safe. As a rule of thumb, always try to use different passwords for all sites you visit, even if it's just a few extra letters at the end.

>Can the certificate itself do anything malicious? Is it stored on my PC?
It cannot do anything malicious, and it is stored on your PC.
Basically when your browser makes a secure connection ("https" in the URL bar with a green lock sign), it requests the server's certificate, and verifies it. In your case, the site had an invalid certificate (maybe it just expired or was set for the wrong domain), and your browser asks you if you want to connect anyways, and stores that certificate for future reference so it doesn't have to ask you again for the same certificate.

The worst that can happen is that someone could see your password if they were eavesdropping on your connection.

Now, if you went to a reputable site like google.com and got that "invalid certificate" message, then something's really fucked on either your machine or network and you need to fix it ASAP

Would they be able to see passwords for anything open in other tabs?

can someone help me with this display problem?
I'm trying to watch videos (whether on youtube or vlc) and whenever there's a completely dark scene where the screen is all black, the display turns off, and then turns on again when the scene stops being all black
it's really jarring to the flow of the video I'm trying to watch
I already turned off smart energy saving mode on the monitor so I can only assume it's a graphics card setting

Cheapest place to buy usb type c to type a cables? (the cell phone micro usb)

anything reasonably recent should work fine for music production.
just make sure it has a 3.5in mic jack, otherwise it will be hard for you to connect your own mic to record audio.

you should look for used laptops on ebay if you're comfortable with shopping for used electronics, otherwise look for refurbished deals on laptops. $350 - $400 can buy you a pretty good used laptop, or a decent refurbished one.

any used/refurbished business class line (thinkpad, dell latitude, hp elitebook) is a good choice.

Where's a decent torrent website nowadays? Haven't felt like downloading anything in years and now that I look all the places I used to use are dead or just 99% malware.
Specifically looking for a torrent of Thor: Ragnarok, if you feel like being extra helpful.

Nope, they would only see information you sent to the site with the invalid certificate.

Is there a best (minimalist) distro I can or should use to serve as a seedbox? Any distros designed specifically for that purpose, or does it literally not matter?

rarbg.to for most (particularly recent) movies and TV shows.

Thanks lad, I'll give it a look.

If I bought a used computer with no hard drive can connecting my hard drive to it give it a virus just by booting up, lets say suppose they had a virus on their graphics card or RAM if that's possible?

no matter what your purpose is, any linux distro will work fine.

for servers, you probably want to stick with either ubuntu server edition, debian stable, or centos, as those are tried-and-true options for servers.

I just want a simple distro that I'm literally only going to run qbittorrent on with ssh to remote in when I have to. I was just hoping that perhaps there already existed a distro optimized for this purpose, considering so many distros are optimized for everything else.

RAM requires power to retain data and it "forgets" all of its contents soon after turning the computer off, so there's no chance of getting a virus that way.

A device like a graphics card does store firmware on some kind of persistent storage chip, but for that to give you a virus, it would have to be purposefully planted there by someone who knows your exact hardware and software configuration. Unless the gubmint or a drug cartel is following you, there is no chance of getting a virus this way either.

what's what
in the butt

>Now I know why it wasn't working. Thank you
Sat user here, what are you looking for? Hz, long, etc.?

The main benefit of a generalized distro is that a lot of people can use it for their specific needs, which means it has a large community, and therefore a lot of documentation and help available.

Suppose, for example, that there was a linux distro for seedboxes. This is a pretty niche reason to run a server, so there would be a very few number of users, a very small community, and basically no security upgrades or bug fixes.

Whereas if you chose a popular server distro like ubuntu server edition, it may take you some time to get everything set up the way you want (because it's a generalized solution) but the community is absolutely massive and you can just google any error message you get and the solutions will just work.

You bring a good point. Very well. I'll stick with the tried and true Ubuntu Server.

You may also want to ask the autists on /ptg/ about specifics, they do seedboxes all day every day

Yeah, maybe. But I'm not doing anything fancy. Literally all I'm doing is just migrating all my torrents from my Windows 'media machine' to this one and that's about it.

I have an SD card that refuses to be formatted, I've had gparted and windows' built in formatter wipe it, but the data is still there. Should I just buy a new card?

What linux distro should I use that just werks but isn't faggy? Not gonna use arch, gentoo, or ubuntu.

Debian

i like fedora

Hmm okay what about a virus being on the motherboard and then transferred to my hard drive that I put in?

same thing, basically impossible for the average person

Just got a sdd, planning to use it as boot drive, which file system do you recommed? ext4 or btrfs.

Attached: uI2S3eH.jpg (900x900, 67K)

ext4 always unless you have a reason not to

Unlikely to happen to you at this point, although totally doable. Turns out most UEFI have generic exploits that usually remain unpatched, and can be resistant to reflashing. Then there was that time Lenovo decided to embed code in their UEFI that reinstalled insecure bloatware on clean installs.

Running Wireshark for the first time. With all programs that connect to the internet closed I'm getting tons of connections to my machine from all over the place, especially Taiwan and Russia. Is this normal?

Have you ever had a bad experience with btrfs?
is not btrfs optimized for sdd's?

Thank you for your insight.

What is your reason for not using ubuntu? If you don't have one, it's the right answer.

Devuan. Debian stability without systemdick-in-your-ass.

never had a bad experience with it, but many of its features are still "in development", and last I heard redhat stopped working on it.

all these special filesystems offer very interesting features for storing huge amounts of data, but very little to the average user. in that case, you might as well go for the tried-and-true filesystem that the majority of linux users use, ext4.

again i haven't personally had a problem with btrfs or any other major "specialized" file system, but i'd never use it for daily usage unless i had a specific reason to leave ext4.
