16GB Samsung b-die here. I monitor my ram usage and most I've gotten is about 6GB. I grew up with shit computers so I still close other programs when starting something. Also, 15 tabs at most.

Why would you even buy 16gb unless you have high ram demands ?

Even so you will have benefit from it since your OS (unless it's retarded) will keep previously launched applications/data in ram cache so that the next time you want to access them it's superfast.

I run a VPS host. I basically have one machine acting as 15 separate machines at any given moment. Probably going to expand soon and add two more servers with 128GB each if RAM prices continue to come down.

Just upgraded my main laptop to 32GB. Planning to build a 128GB desktop next iteration of Moore’s law.

For a few years I had only 4GB due to board limit. When I last upgraded the whole system in 2010 I maxed out the new board w/32GB. Then ram was cheap so I was like "why not" so now I don't worry about shit. Still running w/a Phenom II x4 955 cpu.

My 1st gen X1 Carbon that I use for most of my personal computing needs only has 4GB of RAM and it's not upgradable since the RAM is soldered onto the MOBO.

My desktop "gaming rig" that I built in 2014 only has 8GB of RAM. I didn't have a need for 16GB at the time and I thought to myself, "well, if I ever need more RAM I've got 2 more slots I can use so I'll just buy a couple more sticks and plug them in sometime in the future." Little did I know that RAM prices were going to go through the roof...

AMD beat Intel to 64 bit consumer CPUs. They had a license for the x86 instruction set, and then they built the AMD64 instruction set which they now license back to Intel. If you have a 64 bit x86 CPU, you are using AMD64.

Gaming or VMs work? 16gb or more.
Everything else: 8gb.
