RIP DOWNTHEMALL: WHAT DOWNLOAD MANAGER DOES Jow Forums USE?

>RIP Downthemall

What does Jow Forums use as an alternative download manager now that Downthemall is dead?

You wouldn't download a mall...

wget

mipony?

wget

This tool was very helpful ~11 years ago, when my internet connection was a tethered 2G phone. I can't imagine what I'd use it for today.

If you still need it, I guess your internet is pretty horrendous. Satellite maybe?

Why do you even need a download manager nowadays?

Not OP, but I still use dta.
My connection is 400/400 fiber.

to manage downloads

aria2

ripme, at least for porn

Why? How often do you download 5+GiB files over standard HTTP?

Certain websites throttle your download or only provide a certain amount of bandwidth, say 40mbs when your connection is 100mbs.
A download manager will start multiple instances of the download to max out your connection and give the highest possible speed.
I use uget.

not him but often
t. hoarder

I use it to rip doujin off of sadpanda.

JDownloader 2

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, since I know no alternative to it. It actually is a resource hog for me on my laptop with 4GB RAM, and has frozen my machine before. I only boot it specifically to rip stuff, but it takes so long to boot.

I don't know how to disable its copying everything from my clipboard automatically. Also, you have to manually disable its asking confirmation EACH and EVERY fucking time a duplicate appears, since it defaults to skipping it, after a 60s timer before moving it. It's actually disgusting. Manually selecting a different option doesn't apply to every other download in the queue- only that singular one.

I swear that if the program has window focus, it does not tell you when downloads have finished downloading. So I have to quickly nope the fuck out to see the popup from system tray saying it's done. Maybe they patched this out, or maybe it's in a setting somewhere. Either way, as a rather tech ignorant dude, it's a pretty clunky program imo, but it gets the job done. I would be happy to use something better, though. Or maybe this is the best, but I just don't have the machine and know how to harness it.

>java

I don't know enough about tech to criticize something like that, nor did I know it uses it (in hindsight maybe I saw that when it was booting, though). But if that's another strike against it, by all means, incentivize not using this program, since it's unruly imo.

to bulk download specific files

Seconding this, been using it for fucking 10 years now for managing happy hour megaupload downloads and crap.

>specific files
I only ever use it for porn, honestly. What else would/do you use it for?

FTP is mostly dead per CDN.

.pdf .zip .rar .jpg .exe ...
mostly from open directories and image albums

wtf I still have it, it works fine

Other browser like: Firefox ESR, Waterfox, Pale Moon or Basilisk.

filtered

install firefox 45 portable and downthemall, just use it when you want to download something.

that's really gay

id like something to download all webms in a thread.

I do that with Clover on my phone. One tap and its done.

firefox, transmission, wget

jdownloader2?

>RIP Downthemall
Uh? It's working just fine on FF 52 ESR. What are you talking about?

Flashget. It was the only legit application that literally could max download speed on shitty slow servers

I didnt use it for many years now though.

rtorrent

and youtube-dl

I still use it.

>youtube-dl

this is not a download manager. it's a python script to download video from certain sites.

DownThemAll!

Attached: logofull.png (905x904, 842K)

what the fuck is taking the developer so long? is it really that hard to make an add-on that merely queues/filters downloads?

Because he made the best bulk downloader for firefox and no one donated shit to him probably.

>download manager

What is this, 2006?

Why not use E-Hentai-Downloader instead?

are you by chance downloading only one file per task... if so no wonder you do not understand

I thiught that thing died a long time ago. But what would you use a download manager for or rather, why is the one built in your browser of choice not enough?

>I don't know how to disable its copying everything from my clipboard automatically
Have you tried pressing the big shiny button that is literally a clipboard?

I bet you use toolbars

yes, bookmark toolbar with addons button on it

There are people who need to download more than one thing at a time.

>dead
What?
It's literally a grep tool, how is it "dead"?

No that's not what I meant at all!

Works fine on waterfox

Oh this looks convenient. Thanks user. I was using an old link grabbing script + downthemall for years.

What browser can only download one file at a time?

Attached: Clipboard01.png (1401x662, 90K)

I have a bash script for that.

>youtube-dl
>it's a python script to download video from certain sites
You mean just youtube?

It works for plenty of other sites

>You mean just youtube?
No, if the stream can be captured it can be downloaded. Its supported on over 1000 sites but it can be used on even more by capturing the stream manually

i don't understand.. your browser is already a "download manager"

thnx will recommend this to my professional colleagues

Some servers limit download speeds per file to unbearably slow speeds. A good download manager will let you download multiple parts of a file and merge them, similar to the bittorrent protocol.
They will even provide a hash to confirm a proper non-corrupt download.

Then there is the ability to scan a page for links and grab all of a certain type.

There's also a filter for the linkgrabber

IDM of course.

Almost this. Download managers are a meme now. But DownThemAll also has batch download features to grab all images on a page and such. It's come in handy a few times.

>Also, you have to manually disable its asking confirmation EACH and EVERY fucking time a duplicate appears

Yeah that's annoying. That aside it's a great program despite >java. The filtering, packagizer, semi auto-captcha, IP reset and API all make it worth it.

Lftp

>passuser since 2012
>trip
Newfags using a tripcode I can understand.

How does someone pay for this shithole for 6 years and not get the hint?

kys imo
it's fucking awful that you would literally be a Google slave

I haven't used that since shanachan was still a thing. Fuck their "I'll only load three thing at a time, maybe two if I dislike you" bullshit.

I use it to download pictures from news sites.

The only correct choice

I will try, thank you mates.

Are you illiterate? He's not upset because you use a pass, he's confused as to why someone who's been here for 6+ years would still tripfag.

>Download managers are a meme now.

Not really. Some servers are slow and multiple connections makes a big difference.

/co/ storytimes

>his browser can't download more than one file at a time without a meme manager

Attached: 1525473988837.png (645x773, 107K)

but its just not about downloading multiple files at a time.

You misunderstand.
Your browser cant download 1 single file multiple times starting at multiple differents points in the file to bypass website restrictions.

dta oneclick and for batch downloading images.

>not curl

wget is everthing curl is.... and more!

why not?

JDownloader.

What other manager can I use to grab download links off of a locally hosted page? Downthemall was the only one I found that could do this

I would if it was given as a service.

Download Star works as an at least ok substitute, at least the filtering part. For lots of large files though I prefer JDownloader.

DTA! is more useful for downloading a selection of links from a page such as an index of pdf lecture notes or an album of kpop idol pictures.

Because the only factor that determines your download speed is how fast your internet is. Shit servers don't play into it at all.

I have a non stable 10mbps internet connection. So it comes handy when i need to download bigger stuff.

Aria2c w/uGet

>uGet

one of the shittiest download managers ever made

Hydrus, its not perfect but damn is it great for webms.

I don't pirate anymore so i have no need for such a thing.

>pirating images

>ITT: fags that never were in a warez and had to ddl a 40gb BDremux/50gb AAA+ game/whatever

What happened with downthemall?
