What's the problem with file explorer finally getting a dark mode?

What's wrong with it? Go suck Stallman's balls

Sorry, I only use LTSB.

This is everything I'd ever wanted since I first touched a computer.

it has had a "dark mode" since forever: its called high contrast aerolite themes

For the faggots that can't figure out what op is jizzing about, you can finally get rid of the taskbar in win 10.

I don't think going with pure black is a good idea. there is too much contrast between icons and background. also
>tabbed explorer

how enable?

What is this, a hard drive for ants?

Wait a few months until they have ironed out the bugs from the update.
Manually update your enterprise OS release.

>i prefer using in my programs the edgy skin, or dark mode as I call it

Yeah that's the actual reason and going easy on your eyes is not a thing
3/10 cuz made me reply

Not that guy but if your room is bright a light theme is much easier on the eyes

dark mode saves the world, because your monitor uses less power, as it would when showing white...

uh oh

Is this real? I mean it's nice that they're finally adding a dark mode for explorer as well as the new W10 UI but I wish they had options to control the exact grey you're seeing, I generally found with visual styles that a 60-80% grey looks much nicer than the almost black they have on the windows UI now. But at least it'll finally be consistent across the system UI and I can stop having to deal with BSODs every update because the visual styles take over permissions on the system theme files and windows can't deal with it.

I mean, look at this, it's so inconsistent with visual styles not affecting the W10 UI and greys being different all over the place. I just want the whole system to look like the rightmost explorer window.

yeah and they look like dogshit

It's baffling how thousands of people are working on this steaming pile of shit yet nothing gets accomplished. They should've had the user interface all done from the get-go and fully customisable so their userbase will get familiar with the branding of Windows 10. I still wonder what they're going to do with all the legacy interfaces found in control panel.

Right now I think they've spread themselves so thin making everything a long ways from completion. Fuck at least Windows Vista they put effort into the UI.

I think it's a matter of using the windows-as-a-service model to get people onto the system first, and then use it as an excuse to fix shit later. Basically they pushed out W10 as a minimum viable product and now they're bit by bit doing all the shit that you would expect in a final product - such as migrating old control panel stuff to settings, unifying the UI, etc. - which they can now do piecemeal with incremental updates instead. It's basically the same approach they've taken to QA, by basically firing most of their internal testers and just checking for basic functionality on fresh new systems and common hardware internally, and relying on the fast ring/insiders etc to find any bugs with other programs etc. I am a bit more understanding in that respect because there's decades of legacy programs and all sorts of tweaks and unique changes people make to their systems out there that represent way too much to reasonably test but still you'd hope that one of the biggest companies on the planet would have the capability to avoid all these bluescreen problems that keep popping up in tech news every time there's an update.

Not to mention every update adds more bloat like the People taskbar icons or Paint 3D when instead of adding these shitty consumer-facing "perks" they should just get to fixing basic functionality.

what's up? i don't see anything too crazy.

It's at best a few hundred talented programmers, engineers, etc, and thousands of pajeets who are bluffing about their capability and understanding of programming and systems design and just do lazy implementations of shit.

is this in the latest build or something? how do i enable dark theme for file explorer

Everyone always claims that this shit is easier on your eyes but I get fucking headaches reading light text on dark backgrounds. I also get those weird spots in my eyes when I look away from the monitor. That shit is straight cancer.

Just use what works best in your situation.
>bright surroundings => light theme
>dark surroundings => dark theme

headaches? weird spots in your eyes? what are you fucking 80? pussy

Faggots like you are the ones with pussy eyes.

That shit is prompting me to delete stuff off of my SSD in order to install updates

Fuck, it takes Microsoft years to put a dark mode for explorer in win 10, after they shipped the OS with a dark mode choice for the taskbar and uwp apps.

How hard could it be to flip a few values in their source code and add a button for that option, jfc.

how did you manage to make it like that?

Probably an insider build

insider build (1809)
If you're still using 170* definitely don't upgrade yet.

dark = lower power white = higher/more power
hmm

HOW THE FUCK DO I ENABLE THIS

YOU CAN'T.
It's a beta feature that wasn't even released yet. Available in test build 1809, but it's not fully stable/functional yet.
Keep waiting.

You don't have to be a nigger about it

how long?

Probably until fall.

looks ok, i'm going to wait until the global dark theme is finished to try it out but it looks decent so far.

i think it's a waste to use a dark theme on an ips monitor. just my opinion though desu

It's for the 5 or so people that use Paint 3D

Dumb nekoposter

>just a few hundred
meanwhile in gahnoopluslinucks world a dozen programmers can design something almost as if not more coherent.

Might be more coherent but every linux UI I've seen is total and utter shite. Looks amateurish and unpolished as fuck.

Not to mention most linux UIs are a mix of stolen ideas from macos and win10, down to very clear details, like position and style of icons in the systray. Fucking ridiculous. You can kinda see what kind of people are behind those designs.

And a lack of coherence doesn't scream amateur hour to you?
At least we can blame bullshit pseudo-feuds (ex: gnome v. kde) for our problems. Windows is entirely in-house and there's absolutely nothing you can do as a user to make the experience more uniform.

There are quite a few amateurish UI flaws with Win10. Quite a long list. Linux suffers the same though. Key difference is the options you have Linux imo.

You must be new to windows

>your monitor uses less power, as it would when showing white...
Sure, if you're using a CRT or OLED monitor. LCD monitors use the same amount of power no matter what it's showing.

>be msp
>push updates at inconvenient times to fuck off people who are rude to me

Let's see Linux cater to my passive aggressiveness like this

>caring about windows explorer when it's used for ~5minutes a day
>choosing windows explorer as your file manager if spending more than 5 minutes a day fiddling with files.

I use it for at least over an hour total a day.

For me, it's not the light or dark background shit. It's the contrast between elements on the screen. Everyone and his mother dislikes gradients, but those are easy on the eyes for me. I like sort of greyish. I like just slightly dark and not complete black. Windows 10, except for some newer design choices as of late, remains shitty because everything is either white or black as shit, and I hate that.

You should consider a third party file manager if your time has any value.
