Do you think parents should restrict their children's Internet access? I'm not talking about monitoring, just restricting what they can access.

I remember being a kid and getting so pissed off by the way my parents would try to censor things. It's practically the reason that I started learning how computers and networks worked, since I had to figure out how to circumvent their BS all the time. But now I'm starting to wonder whether or not I would do it to my own kids.

I'd beat my kids to a fucking pulp

jesus man just wear a condom

Yes as long as the parents aren't stupid about it

rubbers are for faggots, fuck you faggot

I'd be keen to keep my kids off the internet as whole, or severely throttle the bandwidth. I would want them to tinker and learn about what they're using, and use an OS that isn't made for morons. I think tech literacy is on a downtrend as time goes on since everything has become easy to use, and most people take the whole system for granted.

Versus, if I gave them everything at once, they'd default to looking at shit videos on YouTube and not know shit about the wonderful machine they're using to do it.

I'd do that shit for the sheer purpose of forcing them to learn.

get some help, terry.

my internet access was not restricted and i turned out fine

small kids will not search for porn unless they are told about it or they learn about it from tv

actually, I learned about porn by clicking through wikipedia articles.

>Versus, if I gave them everything at once, they'd default to looking at shit videos on YouTube and not know shit about the wonderful machine they're using to do it.
Sadly this is basically the entirety of the new generations, millennials were the last generation with some Jow Forumsentoomen, now it's all iToddlers, SJWs and Eugenes.

I learnt about it thanks to an ad for an adult hookup website on the backside of a bus.

who is this semen demon

No. As long as they don't use non-free Javascript.

this. my children will be raised on free software.

I'm 18 and this is just about how my dad taught me about computers. When I was 8, instead of just letting me sit on the internet all day, he let me fuck around with Ubuntu on a virtual machine without an internet connection. By Eventually he taught me about the terminal and what you can do in it. When I was 10 he gave me access to the Internet, and I guess what he did worked. Immediately I looked up tutorials on everything I could think of, and during middle school while my friends were starting out on Twitter and Facebook, I was trying out different distros, WMs and DEs.
Not to tip my fedora but nowadays while a lot of my classmates are scared of tech they know nothing about, my dad taught me to embrace and learn about it.
Either that, or my dad just made me autistic.

have you seen these unsupervised girls on chat apps? live stream fucking their pussies with hair brushes and shit. no way am I letting my kids near any device connected to the internet.

but I'll bite anyway
I would monitor them just so they don't do anything stupid, like make dumb posts on Jow Forums for example.

youtube "children's" and "toy" channels
Disgusting russians

Wtf is a eugene?

No. Because restrictions cause distrust and I want to be able to trust my kids.
In my opinion, if the cops don't show up, they're not doing anything wrong.

This. Can't remember the app now but I remember this livestream of a teenage girls who were stripping off for silly virtual gifts. I immediately reported the stream and got the hell out of there.

I don't know what goes through their minds because surely they must know they have the potential to be recorded.

i learnt about porn when i was 12, through ads. "Click here to fuck" or something similar.

my school used the stupidest one, you could search for hot chocolate recipe and it would block you because of the word hot

You are really, really making this too hard for yourself.

Every generation was the same, just in a different enviroment. You still get criminals, people who are social, people who would rather look into their smartphone, or read the newspaper or milk the goat than talk.

Kids will be kids. Don't take them for dumb. What you will sensor, they will watch at a friend's.

If your kid doesn't want to go out and play, well, sorry for his genes man. Not everyone is meant to be popular and likable, nor should be. Nor does anyone need to know computers and shit. When the time comes, they will probably get training for a specific program for their work and then forget about it and return to fb and yt.

My point is, don't fill kids' brain with shit you think is great but they will probably not need. What you need to do is feed, clothe and take care of them without getting in their way.

If your kid happens to ask you "hey daddy-o, I very much like this pooter thingy. Can you show me more?", then all the greater, man. He may instead search for chemistry shit. Or even do nothing but blast 'Tame tu Cosita' all day long and shitstain the chair while playing Overwatch. Not everyone is the same.

At the end, your responsibility is to make him independent, be that by picking grapes or picking grape strains for his enormous winery acres. You can't polish shit, but you also can't roughen a diamond.

too bad it will probably just turn them into fashion-obsessed partisans like you and not actually tech literate people with the proper mindset/attitude to be such, if it even works

nobody needs this kind of artificial restrictive/moral police bullshit to get into tech, you just need to not be a shit parent and actually do things with your kids to foster that interest if they have that inclination and point them in the right direction when they need it

yelling at your kid for watching YouTube or using the wrong operating system isn't going to make them interested in how their shit works, they'll more likely just go over to their friends' house and enjoy all the things you won't let them have anyway

Yes. Objectively. Depending on the age, of course. I don't want a 6 year old stumbling upon efukt/shock site/whatever the fuck. When they get older I'd probably relax the blocks only to gore sites or some shit and sit them down and talk about them a bit to make sure they don't do something retarded like try and be ebin haxxors with LOIC and get everyone in trouble.

Pretty much this, best way to make kids behave is to teach them that there's going to be consequences.

Parents are botnet.

Not necessarily. But they absolutely should restrict access to video games. Letting video games raise your child is the single worst thing a parent can do.

>Objectively.
haha dropped

My parents were pretty harsh about restricting my access depending on their mood. I think ultimately it made me think and learn more, like you said, I had to spend time trying to circumvent everything. That said though, everything is accessible through a smartphone now, and almost all kids have them. I don't know if our childhood can be properly imposed on the kids of today.

>his parents cared about his privacy
>they also made him genuinely interested in how computers and networks work
>still being so ungrateful

OP, think twice.

Depend wich videogame, during the point'n'click era of videogames there was a lot of educational games, and i'm glad i had them as a kid

>he thinks 6 year old kids shouldn't have blocked access to tubgirl or extreme trans scat porn
Autism

my parents allowed me to whatever the fuck i wanted but i had no internet so i had to plan out what to download at local library when i went there. helped me learn a little bit about computers and internet in general but not a whole lot since i was fairly restricted this way. now that i think about it, it was kinda fun going to library and using internet there instead of sitting home. i didn't have my own internet until 2nd year of hs which wasn't that long ago.

Why?

urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Eugene

This. Put forces in place stepping them from using any browser besides IceCat

Just look at /v/. That's what a childhood of video games will turn you into.

I'll leave them alone with a CLI, no DE installed, no package manager bullshit. Fully connection to Internet whatsoever. If they manage to get porn from there, I'd be rather amazed than pissed off. Also they will deserve it.

Firstly i will let my kid only use free software, maybe something like Debian Jr ( debian.org/devel/debian-jr/ ) while he is still young without experience with computers, i will try to setup a hosts file to block porn/socialmedia/gambling/fake-news/ads websites and i will teach him how to use vim and Emacs (the sooner he starts the faster he will type). Porn is the priority to block, look at this if you want more information: yourbrainonporn.com/
I think that 1h maximum of computer per day is enough for a kid under 10 yo, more computer time lead to autism.
At 10 yo i will introduces him about the importance of free software and teach him to use a terminal, how to install a GNU/Linux distribution etc. At 15-16 yo i will let him do what he wants on the computer progressively, he may be old enough and experienced enough to really understand how computers and softwares works instead of being an Apple/snapchat/Instagram toddler.

Had a pc in my room with internet access since I was 14 (the glorious 1999). I have looked for porn before, but that was a whole new experience. I surrendered to masturbation. I also learnt a lot since I started using Linux to protect my masturbatory privacy from parents and friends who came tome play gaymes (I had a windows partition for that shit).
Great years.

Yes. It's really important.

I teach elementary and the web is the go-to babysitter for 90% of children. And it's no good, because they have no overall base on which to build skills.

I would download everything they need offline. Wikipedia, news, stuff like that.

Unless you run an extremely good adblock, they'll learn about it. Ads are indiscriminate.

Also, you're on Jow Forums. Did you turn out fine?

>I teach elementary

>I'm not talking about monitoring, just restricting what they can access.

Of fucking course. List of shit children should not have to deal with:

1) Dumb shit, potentially humiliating-for-life shit, or shit that exposes them to harassment or physical danger, they post on the internet that has a lifespan of forever

2) Easy access to the most decadent or extreme pornography in earth's history, risking an addiction and/or failing to adapt for real world sex.

3) Also if your kid is weird or mentally ill, with no internet or even controlled internet they can have a somewhat normal lifestyle and have a chance at happiness. With the internet, they are exposed to groups of people like themselves, and with item 2, the result is furfaggotry and rule34. Multiply the damage with item 1 and you get results like christian chandler. If he had been born sooner he wouldn't be living a life of eternal public humiliation and deviancy.

When I was a kid I massively appreciated the privacy I had, but I wish I had less access and advice from parents who grew up with internet and knew what the mistakes were.

>small kids will not search for porn unless they are told about it or they learn about it from tv

Well, good thing not a single child they go to school with will possibly bring it up

>1)
As someone that dicked around on Jow Forums from the age of 12 and onwards, I can attest to this. Kids unwittingly dox themselves every time they put something on the Internet, without fail. Even if you don't give a shit about what shows up in a Google search of your name or your kid's name, you're still putting yourself at high risk to end up with a surprise $200 bill from Papa John's.

Definitely If children (21 is the cut-off point between children and menchildren) want full access to the Internet, then they should move out of their parents house and pay for their own things.

Yes parents should. Drugs and alcohols are banned for teens. Why not internet? Cars are great tool but kid should not drive them. Internet is great invention either, and internet can harm mental & physical health.

To OP. Let your kid learn to use internet wisely. Like teaching how to drive a car through right way without accident. Also see how Gates teaches their children to use internet.

I learned about porn through spam

are you sure it's a good idea to compare
>putting someone in control of a machine that can physically harm or kill others
to
>putting someone in control of a machine that can only be used to access or send information

But user, information is power

*knowledge is power. a child doesn't have the ability to intentionally do anything effective with information, and if my kid did do some h4x0r shit, I'd be proud. Also, the web is almost completely idiot-proofed, cenored, and centralized now.

>Ignoring mental health that is important as physical health
I can upload numourous guro pics
or revile anyone until he/she freak out
or instigate kids to send me their nudes.
And everybody can do this.

btw do kids understand what is the right to their portraits and what is their personal infos?
Also do you sure kids never do illegal online? Look. They join ISIS.

I learned about it when I was in 2nd grade by trying to watch teen titans. I think I typed teen tit then accidently hit enter

What's wrong with isis ?

Fag

>yelling at your kid for watching YouTube

YT is not the problem since they at least try to keep kids from seeing content not suitable for them. It's the rest of the shit on the internet that is a problem.

>leaf

opinion discarded

Just keep them off anything that seems Jow Forums or Jow Forums like and make sure they don't get you arrested trying to look up porn of kids their own age.

Other than that just let them do whatever the hell they want as long as they are having at least an hour or two off the computer each day.

my parents restricted me to a kids aol account but that was easy to circumvent by making an alternate account
the internet wasn't as dangerous then as it is now though so maybe it isn't comparable

>can harm mental & physical health
so can going outside, but we teach children not to leap infront of cars. Why not teach your kids not to have a shitfit if someone tells them to kill themselves in the youtube comment section?

>YT Tries to keep kids from seeing content not suitable for them.
LMFAO clearly you know jack shit about youtube, and have never searched "Spiderman Elsa" and just kept clicking related videos over and over.

This. Faggots who need to have comments censored are nigger loving communists who need to get thrown out of a helicopter

We said it once and we'll say it again. Being born in the wrong generation isn't a fucking meme. This post is so fucking correct, I still have not to find any kid nowadays who isnt fucking ultra lefty that love google and apple forever.

Kys nunigger

>Every generation was the same, just in a different enviroment.
Fag cuck. If you look out its obvious the different that this new generation is. Millenial were the last ones who atleast has some people actually think, everything after that is Apple product shit and SJW anti trump degenshit

Personally I don't believe in censorship but if you're concerned about your kids being brainlets, why don't you just use simple restrictions and tell them that they'll have to learn to get around them. You can increase the difficulty every year and by the time they're 18 you'll have created the best hackerman the world has ever known

Attached: 4d7.jpg (700x700, 101K)

People under 18 shouldn't even be allowed to use the internet. Kids these days will never know how it is to do one's own homework instead of having wikipedia do it for you.

I had free reign. Thanks to that, I developed creepy ass hobbies and discovered some dark shit oh and Jow Forums. Thanks mom and dad! Being a teenager during the early 2000’s was awesome. No PC and censorship bullshit.

I remember when I was 11 back in 2009 I secretly saved up my pocket money after I over heard the technician that you could plug in the modem in any bedroom and bought my own modem and wireless AP, it was fun researching how to make the network hidden from my parents at my school's library, and now I'm studying for my Network+ certs before I get into college next year, thanks dad

...

No, that's how you turn them into psychos

I think the government should restrict all internet access.

Found the fascist

I voted for Hillary.

Wouldn't that be you know, facist?

I can't be a fascist, retard. I'm an anti-fascist.

Yes. If they're not smart enough to circumvent it, they're probably not smart enough to use internet without restrictions.

And honestly, there's a lot of stuff in the internet that young children are better off without seeing.

I was using proxies since grade 6 dude, if my parents blocked anything back then i would be able to see it

For chil;dren under 14 I would not only restrict their online activity but also monitoring them with keyloggers and all the desktop surveillance possible. A chilld under 14 should have no unmonitored internet access. Parents must be stupid to let that happen particularly if the computer is in a private space such as the bedroom, in a public space such as a living room the screen should be facing so everyone can see it. If they want online privacy they wouldnt get that in my house

the first time i got a laptop and internet up and running was look at porn
