Can anyone help me with info on this old Timex? I can't any info about it online. Was wondering when it was made and if its worth more then the $3 I paid for it. It doesn't currently work. I tried a new battery and it didn't help. A local watch shop said it would be $120 to fix and refurbish it. Sounds high for a crapper old watch but what do I know. Is it possible for a DIYer to repair it? What do you think it needs?

Not really, no

I think you should just franken it and buy a new movement and hands

Yah. That is what I thought. Hence why I didn't have the watch guy repair it. Still a cute watch though. Would like to try and DIY repair it if possible.

How do I go about that? Just buy a new watch and tear it apart or are there raw parts that can be bought? If there are raw parts to be bought what search terms do I use on fleabay or china sites?

netherlands, does that mean i have the wrong one? (bought it from the uk)

No, that's right for you; Netherlands looks to be located around 50N latitude. I had to look for a 35N version because I spend most of my time between 25N and 40N latitude.

The movement looks similar to the standard fashion watch shitter movement (miyota 2033?).
I've seen people sell them on ebay with a set of crown and hands.
Just get one of those and install it, most complex thing you have to do is shorten the stem and to attack the movement to the dial (careful use of glue can do it).

good to know :3

Is this real? Anyone recognise the model? Apparently from the 70s.
I’m not convinced.

>TFW 65N
Is there a model for me?

cant tell without knowing the movement
does the crown have a button on it?
btw even if its real its not worth much

No, only 35N and 50N versions were produced.

This is the back.
Did omega ever have this shitty level of caseback?

Attached: image.jpg (900x1600, 616K)

probably not

most omegas *except Speedmasters* are absolute shit. from movements-to-finish. the average height of their divers is 14mm, their genius new co-axial movement is absolute trash.

yes, their casebacks too. absolute shit.

they got rid of Lemania, something they could have built in their own image. something good and gorgeous.

everything good, except the Speedmaster, hass been destroyed by omega.

You know who wins? Rolex and Tudor.

gf gets pissy if I even talk about watches and is against me buying even an skx. I don't really know what to do. She doesn't control my finances but at the same time having the watch isn't worth dealing with the bullshit. I have about 4k saved so far, I pay all my bills and get more than my share of groceries. I haven't bought anything for myself in 5 months. Its a $200 watch and I have $100 on paypal too still from a previous refund.

Just put that bitch on her place.
Only reason she doesn't want you spending on yourself is because she thinks its money she cant leach off from you.

You should probably tell her what you just told us

This watch is more accurate than most Rolexes. For £44.
Why pay more?

Attached: image.jpg (1242x2208, 662K)

I've done that in the past and its only made things worse in the long run. I think she has someone genuine mental health issues that she's not addressing but I don't want to throw her off a cliff over a watch. Its difficult
I have

>Mechanical
I mean if you are going to use accuracy as a reason for watch purchases, why use a Seiko 5 as a example?
Drop the pleb tier reasoning and get the official Jow Forums timepiece.

>I don't want to throw her off a cliff over a watch. Its difficult
I know bro, it's about the principle. Now it's a watch, next time something else, main thing is that she feels the need to control YOUR finances.
1. Have a serious talk with her about the subject.
2. Start disobeying her wishes a bit by a bit so that she gets used to not having control over you.
3. Dump her

This one looks a lot better though.

Also my crystal press finally arrived so I can finally remove this dog shit crystal which legitimately scratches easier than my plastic digital crystals.

Women are technology, they are just not completely understood yet.

I want to burn $50-$400 on a quartz dive watch. I won't be diving, but I will be snorkeling and going to the beach, so it better be water resistant. What watches do this best?

look, she sounds like a horrible person.

you sound even-keeled and kind. I have to ask what a good guy like you is doing with a horrible person? you deserve better.

Fuck her. Find someone who respects you as a man and supports your interests and hobbies.

Literally this.
I have a hard time taking anything nice to the beach, fuck taking a nice watch to the beach or in salt water.
It's a tank and has been my exclusive beach/water watch for a few years.
Gets the job done.

The strap is kinda lame, but perfect for the beach or water. If you ever want to wear it normally just throw on any metal band and it actually looks pretty good.

Guy with this crappy Timex reporting back. I read online that sometimes these old quartz movements need to be shaken to jump start them with if they sit with a dead battery for a while. I read this and shook the heck of out of the watch shortly after making the above posts. It didn't seem to do anything so I tossed it on the desk and left the office to work on stuff. I just came back now and danged if the watch wasn't started working again. The time set feature works too as I made the hands go round 12 hours twice before setting the time to hopefully loosen things up. Just thought I would share in case anyone else ends up fooling with something like this.

> I banged a broken watch on the desk and it didn't fix it
wew

No I said I shook it and it DID fix it.

More info here on why shaking it helps here watchrepairtalk.com/topic/1560-timex-electric-wont-run-with-new-battery/

Post watches set to the current time but not the day or date because not having a quickset mechanism is a hassle.

This was the closest to the current time I could find.

Is my furry wrist really that recognizable? But sure here you go.

Attached: IMG_20180510_182850.jpg (900x1200, 217K)

So how do you get both the day and the date correct without quick set? Or do you mean it's single quick set? If so I don't see what the issue is, turn the hands to set the day and you'll hardly ever need to touch it again.

no, the dynamic is.

that's a great dress piece, 36mm?

I've got hairy arms too (women prefer us)

If you pull the crown an extra click it advances the date by one, but you have to push it in and out each time. There's no quickset for the day, you just have to turn the hands forward to advance both the day and the date together. It's not a problem if you wear the watch every day, but I don't wear it often so it's usually stopped.

Also the day wheel is only in Spanish, I guess the two-language day wheels are just a Seiko thing.

It's around 35mm

Attached: PC180119.jpg (1500x1125, 353K)

What? His email and phone?
So what?
What video is it?

That does sound like a pain. Imagine losing focus, which would be easy with such a tedious process, and skipping the correct date and having to jerk that crown another 30 times.

My 613 works the same way. It's honestly not that bad.

Attached: 20170701_145739-1483x2283.jpg (1483x2283, 568K)

Tell her what's up. Or honestly regret it the rest of your life and enjoy getting stepped on. Frankly I would tell her to get used to it or get the fuck out.

For this save your cash and get a Casio mdv-106 known as the duro. Looks great, 200m water resistance, screw down crown. Honestly I wear it more than any of my other watches including some very expensive models. Good daily driver and at about $40 you don't have to worry about it.

Yeah and that's better than the Constellation. Its "quickset" feature is that you can turn the hands from 9 pm to 3 am and then back and forth over and over again to advance the date, with a tiny crown that is impossible to turn.

Agree 100%. Hard to beat this for beach duty and beyond. Looks beyond it's $40 price tag and frankly might be one of the best deals out there for a really good beater watch. Best part is, fuck it up, toss it and get another.

How's the lume?

on the right

Attached: yYGhG8g.jpg (1280x960, 260K)

the white part of the dial is fully luminous, it's like a spotlight hoe

Nice. I kind of want it.

That is probably the best looking watch with that style of rotating bezel I've ever seen. So close to perfect but the dial seems a little off, not sure what I'd change about it though.

Just checked out their other watches, the dial design is common among them all so I can understand wanting to keep the brand recognition. Most of their other watches are also damn good looking.

it's remarkable dear sweet friend

That citizen lume is great too. So bright.

>being this pussywhipped

must be nice to have someone to fight with

Read up on their steel. They have hardened steel all the way through, not just the surface. It's basically impossible to scratch the thing. It'll look in 10 years like the day you bought it. They sell bracelets made of the same steel. They also have a gasket system that lubricates the crown every time it's used and the same magnetic resistance as a Milgauss. Think of them as Sinn but with good technologies.

>They have hardened steel all the way through, not just the surface. It's basically impossible to scratch the thing
Well, no, it's possible to scratch the thing, but hardened stainless steel is presently the best trade-off you are going to get between scratch resistance and toughness (since you still need corrosion resistance).

I want to buy a moonwatch but it will cost me 4 months wage. Should I still do it?

I decided to check out some other guys anyway for shits and giggles and found out about pic related.

I thought people praised seiko for their finish and attention to detail? Isn't the marine master supposed to be one of seiko's higher end divers? Guess I'll get the beater or one of the eco drives like

amazon.com/Citizen-Eco-Drive-Promaster-Diver-BN0150-28E/dp/B016R90VBK/ref=sr_1_5?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1526001174&sr=1-5&nodeID=6358540011&psd=1&keywords=citizen diver

Attached: Screenshot_20180510_214517s.png (1184x741, 524K)

Seiya put that warning on all Seiko divers while the known QC issues tend to be on the lower end models. The higher end ones SHOULD be okay.

Regardless, my budget makes it so that that if I were to get a seiko it would be one of the lower end models. I also thought people liked the SKX, though.

>I thought people praised Seiko for their finish and attention to detail?
Yes, when compared to other watches at the same price range. More often than not a Seiko at any price will be better finished than another watch at the same price.

People do like it.
Anyway, my opinion for watches is stay under $500 or above $3000 (unless it's vintage). You're better off getting the Casio. You'll be pleasantly surprised. It's oddly nice for the price.

Just bin the bracelet right away.

Attached: IMG_20180510_180001.jpg (1920x2560, 1.87M)

>I also thought people liked the SKX, though.
They do, but you just need to understand that for the SKX to be cheap enough to make for Seiko to sell it for $200, there have to be some compromises. The movement is the same as in a Seiko 5, the crystal is Hardlex, the stock bracelet is trash, and the QC is meh.

On the other hand, no one else can manage to make an ISO 6425 compliant diver for cheap enough to be able to sell it for $200. Citizen has given up trying with either their mechanical or their eco-drive divers.

That said, Seiko's QC issues on their divers priced between $300 and $500 are totally unacceptable and need to be fixed.

Be an alpha or enjoy conditioning your mind on being stepped on for the remained of your life. I bet you guys are liberal-thinking too... This is a disease

Relax your requirement for quartz and get an skx or a vostok

Please explain to me the appeal of a spring drive chrono. I love spring drive, I love the smooth sweeping seconds hand, so why would you purposely buy a watch where the seconds hand isn't sweeping 95% of the time?
