About 5TB of music I never listened to, shows and movies I never wanted to watch, and games I never wanted to play.

I still can't imagine why I downloaded the Train discography in 2010.

I've also deleted movies and games. I don't play it, nor do I re-watch stuff unless under certain circumstances which almost never happens or kicks in.

If you heard the data and never intend to do anything with it, then yea, you're a hoarder. I have a server with 2x1TB, 2x2TB and 2x4TB drives each in their own mirrored array. Then a stand alone 8TB for central backup for the arrays.

Each array is for something specific. Running out of room on my TV series/Anime series drive. Fuck. Dexter and Breaking Bad alone were around 1.9TB before encoding.

Most torrenting sites. I've got Foster's home for imaginary friends encoded in h265, Invader Zim, Codename Kids Next Door, Spongebob, and a bunch of other stuff. Part of it is some sort of belief that in the future it might disappear for some reason, and I'll have the last copy. But I doubt that's true, because there's probably other people like me who download that stuff.

Not being funny, but if it ever ended up that you had the last copy of this data there'd probably be limited uses for it. It might not even be readable at all, let alone copyable to other people.

All you get today are crippled episodes without the original music in it and without Beavis burning things down etc. So your best bet are torrents. This show would be lost already without the effort of some people ("The Kingturd Collection").

I'm in the same boat with a 6x4TB drive raid 6. It's like 20% full.

Just had a scare with my FreeNAS box. Got a email from it saying the boot drive has degraded. Using two usb thumb sticks for boot. By the time I got home I could not access the network drive. My nas box is not hooked to a monitor so I had to lug a TV to the box to see what was going on. It was just sitting at a GRUB screen. Rebooted a few times with no change. Swapped the thumb drives to different USB ports and the box booted up like normal. Safe to say my mobo is dying?

I never inteded for this box to end up holding all my files. I set it up as a test to see if NAS was right for me. It's a cheap Asrock mobo with the cheapest ram I could find. PSU is of decent quality. Are super micro mobos worth the cost?

It said one of my mirrors were degraded, but it was because of some bug during the booting process, so I just had to restart it.

It's just a really bad habit, nothing good comes from it, aside from faster and better hard drives being developed.
I'm really glad that I got rid of the porn, games and TV shows/movies that I had been holding on to since like 2009, don't have to spend unnecessary money on storage anymore and worry about hard drives dying thus losing all of my shit. I don't miss it one bit.

I don't understand you people at all. I lost a minor amount of data (through user error) about two years ago. It was nothing of great importance, some ebooks, old school assignments, etc. I'm still mad at myself for losing it and periodically wish I had it back. Never once have I felt freed by deleting things.

I just happen to like obscure stuff, and how many times have I posted something here that no one had... If it wasn't for people like us the internet would be lost.

Yeah sounds like the same bug I had. If it's no longer degraded, then you've got nothing to worry about. Just make sure to backup your FreeNAS config and replace the USB if it dies.
