a "LAN party" in 2018 is basically an oxymoron. The purpose of a low-latency LAN game is completely defeated by the fact that you'll be connecting to the game's servers to play the game. It'll be the same as if you were all in your respective homes playing the game with ~50-100ping.

The purpose of a LAN game is that I can shittalk you across the room after a headshot. It's a social thing, not a technical thing. The technical considerations are indeed mostly obsolete, but they always were secondary in the first place.

Yes. I rumanage some events, LAN parties included, but I wouldn't have more than one LAN ever (though one and al half year ago, me and like 6 friends made one that was pretty good, but that was an exception).
Tha LAN parties I manage are for anyone, we even have 16 PCs with i5s but no dedicatedn an association and I graphics, but it's OK to play old games, there aren't much newer demanding games that have LAN option anyway (only A Way Out come to my mind). We run them in a local granted by the town hall so underage have to fuck off at 00:00.
The most I like about LAN parties at these years is that most people forgot about how to build a PC or what they can do with them, so I take some time to fix their PCs like installing proper libre software, or at least good imo, getting them to install uBlock Origin and such and getting rid of viruses and bloat.
I remember when I was a kid at 2003~6, I had 10yo and I already knew what those guys know about computers and such, I feel like a God now.

The sad thing is people no longer play together on lans. It's all either compos, or doing their own thing. On top of that a lot of games won't let you self-host or provide a clear LAN-function anymore. It's dead user

We LAN Diablo 2 every week at my apartment. It is a lot of fun, nice way to get old friends together for awhile.

If everyone was thin and healthy but still grew tits, it would make sense, but 3/4 of the US is fat. My friends are I are all 19-21 and we had one last summer before our mate went abroad.
It was more just hanging out for a day or two with our computers instead of playing games all the time
Sure we played games, but we also watched a film, played poker, ate junk food, took some beers and a skateboard to the local skatepark (which is why I have a scar on my arm).

I don't know if the people that still LAN play the old shit that I'd want to play like UT99 and 2004, Q3, maybe old strategy shit like Alpha Centauri, etc. I had one time in like 2003 where some people got together and we played Serious Sam co-op, I really wanna do that again.
