>still no decent open source equivalent to this
Are you kidding me? How come there's no decent open source equivalent to this.
I'm basically stuck using Plex on my server which anyone can get access to because there is no way to add a username and password to the admin interface to Plex
Fucking bullshit

what are they going to do even if they do get into it? play your animoos?
May 13, 2018 - 23:25
Isn't emby (mostly) open source?
May 13, 2018 - 23:27
you can enable remote access and get flooded by bots and chink hackers
that is one vulnerability, out of 5000~ possible vulnerabilities
May 13, 2018 - 23:27
You don't need usernames or passwords, just some smart firewall rules.
May 13, 2018 - 23:51
Isn't everything but the web client layer open source already?

Don't expose your server to the public internet.

brainlet
whitelist plex to accept requests from localhost Then, set up an nginx reverse proxy, put this behind basic auth if you want something extra
Remote requests, unless you've hit your whitelist up with some bois, require a plex account to even access the webui
By default, only localhost is permitted to use the service without auth

what's the point of this?
all it does it give some shitty UI of your local content, then re-encodes it for no reason.
a true gentoomen browses his content through neatly organized folders and plays the file natively, not some re-transcoded plex bullshit

OP, have you taken a look at Empy? Very good alternative to PLEX and open source. emby.media /

Empty your name fiel, fag. Nobody wants to know you.

>You know all that shit you want to watch that isn't on Netflix?
No I do not actually.
If I want to watch something,I'll download it, watch it, then delete it.
>Can't resume watching some show at work on your phone easily browsing a fucking folder lmao.
Wouldn't it be better to store the files on your phone instead of using the internet like an idiot.

>If I want to watch something,I'll download it, watch it, then delete it.
Too much work. My shows are all downloaded automatically with sonaar. If I want to watch something, I just add it to sonaar.

>watching some show at work on your phone who the fuck does this

>If I want to watch something,I'll download it, watch it, then delete it. based only sane way to deal with movies and shows

His phone data connection probably just sucks.
Huge waste of time, just stream everything.

>stream everything enjoy your buffering, re encodes and video artifacts on your tiny phone screen, gen Zer. i'll be over here watching 4k 10bit movies on a 60 inch 4k hdr tv like they were meant to be watched.
May 14, 2018 - 03:07
PLEX works fine with 4k videos and the default setting is to play the native video file dipshit.

I have no problems with Emby, been using it for almost 3 years
It’s constantly less open source but at least it’s 100% locally hosted and doesn’t have a shitty privacy policy
