This thread is about the appreciation of watches, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.
I like to think of it as an impressive improvement on an already impressive design
Noah White
Hello /wt/ I want to get a new watch that meets the following criteria. What would you guys recommend?
>Digital face >Radio reciever to automatically update time and DST >Water resistant >Displays the time in BIG numerals, clearly shows am/pm, displays the FULL date including day, month, year, and day of the week >Can get used in reasonable condition for below $100
I currently have a casio pathfinder watch that almost meets all the above criteria, but it doesn't display the full date and triggers my autism.

Casio G-7700 (or G-7710 negative display)
Cooper James
You should buy a citizen promaster eco-drive
Oliver Martin
Fuck, nevermind. It isn't atomic. Check out other G-shocks, I'm sure one will fit your criteria.
Kayden Edwards
the m5610 has all that and you can pick one up for around $90 new. It's also solar powered, if that's something you like.
Caleb White
thanks, this face design looks really good. i'll look for a similar one with a radio receiver
You know what looks better than this and has superior technology? The citizen protester eco-drive
Isaac Cox
watchmaker lurking if anyone's got any questions
Luis Howard
Vintage digital watches. Yay or nay? and Why?
Jeremiah Price
eco drives have serious inconsistency with their capacitors. Citizen had to come out and say that you need to keep the things under light every day. they can last 10-20 years on a single capacitor, but if the charge goes too low, they can quit in as little as a year.
check out Seiko kenetic if you're looking into self charging quartz

Where's the cheapest place to get some rodico putty?
Joshua Allen
not my area of experience, unfortunately
Mason Bell
maybe Amazon if you want the cheapest? we buy from places like Juels Borel or Startime
Jaxon Morales
Kinetics have the same issue with their capacitors.
Logan Ortiz
Where do you get your ideas from?
Luis Perez
but unlike ecodrives, Seiko caps can be changed easily. most of the ecodrives place their capacitors under a bridge that also serves as the train bridge, meaning you have to service the same thing just to change a faulty part. don't get me wrong, it make sense if the capacitor lasts for a normal service interval, but they fail so damn often
Nolan Carter
ideas? I'm not that sort of watchmaker. I haven't MADE a watch since school. I work in a repair center for an orj. I'm basically a watch mechanic
Wyatt Lewis
What even is this question? Are you asking from a stylistic, technological, or service standpoint?
Landon Hill
Are there differences to the quality of mechanical quarts movements? Like, for example between a cheap $400 quarts watch and a $1000 quarts?
Jayden Ward
>quarts
Jaxon Long
How does one get a job repairing watches? Aside from "get a degree at a watchmaker school lel" that is.
What the fuck kind of question is this you non ECO drive wearing fuck It's just a fucking job you get the qualifications and apply for the job just like anywhere else what the fuck are you 15 years old or some shit what are you expecting as an answer some shit you backwards ass hairline looking motherfucker are you slow or something?
Thomas Ward
You seem frustrated user. Tell us how you really feel.
Luke Howard
A bit hurt inside desu
Bentley Wood
thanks
Robert Powell
I feel like I'm better than everyone because of my citizen promaster eco-drive
On the complete other end of the spectrum, there's a guy doing a spacewalk right now and I'm trying to get a screen grab of his watch. youtube.com/watch?v=RtU_mdL2vBM
Hudson Phillips
There is very little difference, technically speaking - quartz is quartz
Brayden Gomez
Go into the water.
Gabriel Russell
I saw it for a second, does not look very civilian whatever it is - did you get it?
Ethan Hernandez
How big is too big? This Breitling Skyracer split second chrono is 43.5x53x16 but it's big for a reason. Think I can pull it off on my 18cm/7" wrist? The lugs seem relatively curvy but I'm hesitant to drop the cash
Would this be considered a good quality photo on /p/?
Kevin Ramirez
Some of them are more accurate and the crystal might last longer
Luis Reed
Lads, where could I get a CITIZEN POCKET WATCH under 300 burgercoin in good condition ? Already checked on Ebay and zen. What's your go to place looking for pocketshitters ?
Jackson Thompson
Is 30-40 dollars a fair price for a service of a non expensive vintage automatic? Any tips on polishing a case using sandpaper?
Jose Garcia
>mechanical quarts movements what the fuck is a mechanical quartz movement?
Bentley Reyes
I'm not sure I will buy any of these two though because they're both 41 mm diameter. Isn't that a little too big for a dress watch?
Jacob Phillips
Thoughts on hour hand and minute hand thickness/width? Should they be the same or different?
Samuel Johnson
He said quarts, not quartz. He probably means quarter minute repeater.
Nolan Bennett
Is it better to buy a watch that is currently being manufactured than a watch that is no longer being manufactured, or does it not matter?
Benjamin Miller
No. It’s gearfaggotry. Funnily enough watches are all the worst parts about camera gearfaggotry without the creative side.
Nathan Phillips
Richemont is buying back watches instead of making them cheaper
