>about 00s interwebz
The freedom

RuneScape
That shit was so good for it's time

The FBI didnt get you for CP

>people used forums instead of reddit
>social media was much less pervasive, specially in the first half of the decade
>most online games had very good LAN support
>websites were lightweight, js was much less used and normally did trivial stuff
>static webpages were the norm
>fansites were a thing
>no mobile-first culture, people were using desktop computers to do computing

I miss the 00s's Internet culture. I definitely do not miss the speeds, though.

>downloading anime was slow
>quality was crap
>we liked it anyway

Attached: CĂș Chulainn.png (800x600, 498K)

>download porn on limewire
>it's cp
>fap anyway because I spent 2 hours downloading it

Attached: 1519675187265.jpg (499x499, 52K)

All of these.
Also everything was much less centralized, and you could really "explore the web", lots of cool shit.

Yes they did.

Culture of the old web, infrastructure of the new web.

It's kind of hard to think now that one of the most downloaded and spread files was a manual on making household explosives.

I miss the practise of people spreading files that they liked, rather than just linking to it.

The simplicity, really. Load times were nearly instant even on the shit net I had. You didn't really have to code for any mobile devices. Javascript was barely used for anything, and only before people figured out they should be using other things. Nostalgia.

This.
Static pages + less kinds of devices to develop/design against. Also, less social media crap.

More freedom. Less normies. Lots of edgy content that you dont really see anymore because its not advertiser friendly. Websites were shitty and coupd be exploited for the luls. I use to spam a website called gametalk using a bug and knew how to get around word filters and proxied to evade ban. It was fun. Lots of flash conent and everyone used limewire

dodgy porn
flash games
that meme site with cats growing up in bottles

The relative lack of JS

No smart phones.
Smartphones gave internet access to way too many retards. The internet culture seemed more authentic in some way. It actually felt like a pleasant escape from reality compared to what it is today.

Omg that made my day

no one page website bullshit

Slackware actually made sense to use since you didn't have to download anything over dialup and it came with a shitton of very useful software like irc clients. I had no clue what irc was before installing Slackware on my P4 shitbox in 2003

Simple sites where the only ads were flashing "You've won X" banners and content would load without JavaScript

Fewer normies

Doesn't matter, you can't bring those times back.

Attached: you can't go back.jpg (720x490, 78K)

Earlier Internet was great. Original chat rooms, file sharing, trading ftp server credentials to upload / download (I'm pretty sure some of these were corporate servers IT guys were hijacking), putting trojans into limewire share folder and letting people infect themselves. Do nothing but pick appealing filenames. Ripping mp3s myself, vcds, real player. Collecting midi versions of pop music. Animated gifs. DCC fservers on IRC. Having direct insight into the porn collection of countless others. Scripting IRC clients with useless emotes.

Websites that weren't designed for phonetards.

More people willing to actually create content just for the hell of it. Now faggots just follow people who actually do shit on youtube, social media, patreon, etc.

Fuck phone posters. We need to wall them off onto a different network.

>What did you like most about 00s
That I still thought I was just a late bloomer and I wasn't going to end up a 35 year old miserable kissless virgin
>t. 35 year old virgin

videojames like d2x and and counterstrike 1.6

What a good time to live in annon. We could have all the 3rd party clients in the world without jewgex favoring the cucklord bot client osb.

www's fucked, let's switch to gopher

That's just a "flaw" in large hi-res widescreens.

I have a 4:3 15" laptop and I never have this problem.

I miss the creative outpouring of that time. No matter what you made, whether it was writing, music, pictures, etc. you'd end up falling in with a community looking to both encourage you and support you. And while we have people still making things, the place where you're criticised and where you're supported are now different.

At least you kissed.

This. Bring back the text file. Give Jason Scott something new to put on his site.

Yahoo chat. There wasn't any chat admin so you could say whatever shit you wanted without reprecussions, there was a small Linux group where we were all chill and knew each other, too bad it was killed by the ginormous amount of boots that spammed the chat to death. Fuck discord

>kissed
Does kissing a girl on the cheek count?
I don't think it does, so I'm still kissless
In fact, just yesterday I went out with a girl
We talked a lot and had a drink
She looked like she had a nice time, she was smiling and it was an open space, she could leave at any time
When it came time to say goodbye we hugged (full body contact) and kissed on the cheek

Of course I don't know how to convert this into a mouth kiss, sex, and/or an affair

No one gives a shit about your failure in the sexual world stfu

>t. high functioning virgin

>Does kissing a girl on the cheek count?
Kissing your mom doesn't unvirgin you, anti-Chad.

turn your cheek to her so she goes in for the kiss and at the last second slip her the dick

yahoo messenger and talking trying to convince girls to webcam with you so u could act the bollox and get them naked at 4am

developed some real connections despite the nudyness. Wonder what happened to those girls...

>be me
>19 year on yahoo pool
>play pool with 30+ year old woman
>play again and again
>same next night and next and next..
>starts becoming flirty
>starts telling me about her problems
>try to comfort her, tell her it will all go better
>tells me I'm sweet
>next night asks me how we are going to meet
>try to avoid and laugh it out
>next day the same
>and the next
>becoming more pushy and suggestive
>stopped going, closed my account
>lost her forever
I have many similar stories with girls I met on irc
Never met anyone irl although they were the ones suggesting it
>10 years pass
Still a virgin to this day
Should have made my move back then
Being punished for my mistakes and my lousy upbringing that made me sceptical towards people and scared

I met a few off yahoo and it was always crazy...
Met one girl who didnt want me to fuck her cause shes having too much sex and afraid her vagine getting too loose. Have sex anyway.
Met another who turned out to be fatter than I expected. Fucked her anyway. It was disguisting as her ass wasnt clean........literally worst thing that could happen during sex.... ugh... Ive met about 100 women from online over the years. Some are cool. Still great friends with two women.
Dont bash yourself. Just take risks now. Its never too late to let go.

One broke my heart.. five years ago. Its not all fun and games when you get sucked into a girl.. Saw her in my masters course recently. Shes looking hot as fuck... awkward shocked look at each other and I walked away heart beating a million miles an hour, but I learned something from her as well. Take risks user.

>download movie on limewire
>play it in front of family
>porno intro scene plays instead

Attached: 1522644120875.jpg (430x320, 24K)

People had more time for people back in the day online as well ( i know that sounds silly) but I feel like there was more of an urge for people to form connections back then than there is now..

The worst normos barely even knew it was there.

>Its never too late
Is it?
These happened in 2000, 18 years have passed
18 years of mistakes, lies, disappointment and lost opportunities
Recently (like 3 to 1.5 years ago) I had 4 girls (ages 25 to 30) that I met on irc that wanted to meet
They sent me photos, we had suggestive chats (text and voice)
And I didn't, I didn't meet them, because I believed back then I was shit and they deserved someone better
One (the youngest, prettiest and kinkiest) wanted to meet at the airport
And I didn't
So many mistakes
I still think of them

This
Nowadays it's only memes, baiting, cringe, manufactured outrage, social justice, instagram whoring and onions

i also notice this. now everything is facebook. what's even worse is everyone expects you to be on there or your considered a social outcast.

>go to apply for job
>oh hey i couldn't find you on facebook
>yea i don't have a facebook
>oh... well. thanks for coming in.

Guess what, thinking about them is doing you know good. I know you know this but if you truly believe it youll stop your nostalgia and move on and do your best to look for a connection NOW. There are definitely women out there for you, all you need is some belief and work to make it happen. If youre unable to meet women then introduce yourself slowly to women like in a meetup of some sort in a group.

Its not the same but maybe its because I am not the same as I was back then....

Well you should come to ireland. No one expect you to have fb especially for a job!

When I had a Facebook I'd deactivate it every time I was applying somewhere so they couldn't find me, never came up in any interviews. Then again it's been several years

People had a lot more time for a lot of things back then.

I think it's the general pace of it all. There's no time to just sit and be, and leave well enough alone. Everything is in a constant state of flux.

Also, the biggest lesson from this is to take risks.... if you took some risks with those girls maybe one might have worked out..
The risk you need to take right now is to go out and put some work in to find a connection.

I'd rather have banner ads back than fucking Taboola and Outbrain shit.

Also stop relying on meeting people online.. its the worst form of meeting people.. especially in this year. Hit the gym and eat right if your fat. Start randomly talking to women even if you know they dont want u to talk to them. Practice practice.

you don't have to temp me. i'm already looking for a way out of the land of the free.

I don't understand the problem with phone posters. I browsed Jow Forums.. since before that was a thing. Now I make use of my phone to read stuff if I'm ever out. I can even browse in the bathtub.

STOP STOP STOP DELETE THAT SHIT NOW

the primitive memes of the era

It's funny, these days Yatta! just makes me sad.

youtu.be/L_jWHffIx5E?t=35

What do if I graduate from college next year and am still kissless virgin?

I don't really fail socially I just haven't found any girls I want to pursue

Think about why youve failed to form a connection and focus less on the kissles virgin part, where no girl really gives a fuck about.
Why have you met someone? What has stopped you? Deal with your emotional problems.

>stop relying on meeting people online
I stopped
IRC is dead know and Facebook and similar are just awful
>Start randomly talking to women even if you know they dont want u to talk to them
I talk to women and many want to talk back
Some seem to enjoy my company
One I felt she was suggesting I think to go vacation together
Anyway, I'm high functioning, I pass almost as normal, I just don't know how to transform it to something more

youtube.com/watch?v=BhpwI3_19P8

say that to women you meet.. tell them what u just told me but say you know a girl and you like her but u dont know how to approach her. Let her know that way the way you are.

youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=qItugh-fFgg

I don't have any problems I just haven't found a girl I like I don't focus on or care about being a virgin either

set up an old athlon xp rig the other day with windows xp, the internet is entirely unusable with it. no modern webbrowser will even install because of missing xp or sse2 support. older browsers no longer work because everything has moved to tls 3 and you will just get error screens on literally 99% of sites, those that do load are completely broken because of the modern web developments. forget about any games, there were only shitty passively cooled tiny gpus back then, seemed good when they came out, but are now literally 1% the power of a basic cell phone gpu. the software was very unstable, had to keep killing explorer.exe and restarting it. sometimes we take for granted how far we have come. windows 10 is rock solid and even comes with things like an ssh client. a shit tier gfx card today can play most games at 300 fps. there were just as many retards on the internet back then as well, millions of normies were on aol. sometimes you need to take off the rose tinted glasses.

>fansites were a thing
right in the feels

youtube.com/watch?v=7OdbCLfXUV4

I'm sorry.

Attached: rogerthat.jpg (225x225, 6K)

Good luck then. Clear skys.

Now it's all just centralised wikis and subreddits.

I miss little things like people posting fanfiction others have submitted, and wallpapers made by cropping several other images together.

And slideshow screensavers.

It's all terrible from an objective measure, but to try and rate this by objective means is to totally miss the point.

youtube.com/watch?v=BorQ_ULcvss

>unregistered hypercam 2
I used this for...? anyone

You beat me to the threebrain stuff.

youtube.com/watch?v=iOfz1QFR4Jc

just rotate your monitor faglet

A lot less buzzwords (autism, botnet etc)
More freedom
More decentralized
More openness
Acting like a retard would get you punished
Less cancer (no JS etc)
More anonimity

But it was slow, tedious and awful most of the time. Nowadays you can have access to super fast Internet with 4G anywhere in a first world country.

Attached: 1526678538616.jpg (1280x1396, 186K)

>Nowadays you can have access to super fast Internet with 4G anywhere in a first world country.
Yeah, but why should you care when everything you can access is shit?

youtube.com/watch?v=uNNas8cE5B4

Maybe we should ask 15 yos what they think of the internet. I think the shine has gone from us older lads and we now think its shit.

youtube.com/watch?v=UQHgQlKIH8A

I don't think so. I think what we have now is pretty naff. There has to be a reason so many young people watch oldfags talking about C64s, Spectrums, BBSs, etc.

There was also GeoCities and Angelfire. Nothing really lost though since you can now find much content that wasn't available at the time and more.

Attached: Untitled.jpg (1920x1080, 126K)

I'm 24, but I only had internet since 2009. Since 2012 (phonefags) there has been a massive decay in quality, especially on the main sites like Youtube and Reddit. 2015 was also a major point (US elections).

Vines are probably the biggest waste of time ever conceived since yt at least.

>vines

I hated that shit. So niggerish.
>"Hello."
>"Whatyasayfuckbitchmotherfucker."
>video ends

When I was growing up in the 00's I was pretty nostalgic for the 90's as well, seems like anything is better than the post 9/11 era.

Vine at least is dead. Now the trends is Snapchat/Instagram stories which are even more retarded.

On the other hand seeing oldfags in Jow Forums is getting rare. Where do you guys go?

>Where do you guys go?
Pretty much nowhere other than here. At this point this is pretty much the only site I visit for leisure.

After 9/11 there was a massive loss of personal confidence in people, a lot more uncertainty.

>oldfags
I think a lot of us became converted normals or died somehow by now.

There are a lot of oldfags here actually. There is also really nowhere else to go since social media and smartphones killed off everything else.

>Pretty much nowhere other than here.

Really? I always though of oldfags as having a vast knowledge of the web. Have you guys tried tor, i2p or any of the altnets?

The perfect balance right here.

>fansites were a thing
Fuck this, those where the cringest shit.

All your other points are fair.

>having a vast knowledge of the web

Yeah, but it's a web that doesn't exist any more. You might find some old site on a rotting server someone only keeps up because they couldn't stand to put it down, but it's largely all ghost towns.

I can only speak for myself, but I don't actually seek out social shit on the internet these days. I don't use an IM or look to stay in contact.

does anyone have the picture that shows which companies/corporations own which % share of all internet traffic in both the early 00s and mid-10s?
what I miss most about the early 00s internet is how most websites were independent, rather than everything being another subset of megacorps
