Well user...it hangs on updates because you are supposed to leave your computer on overnight at least once a week. It will occasionally install a feature update (Spring/Fall) and also, it's a creaters update...pretty cutting edge.

Well windows 10 isn't new. Windows 7 actually has had a few improvements since the start unlike 10.

- Forced updates unless you install specific versions or install extra stuff
- Updates break stuff from time to time
- Modern apps are dumbed down and slow versions of Win32 programs
- Windows 10 UI is trash
- Telemetry up your ass
- Uses more resources than 8.1

I have a low opinion of Windows 10 and the current state of Microsoft. They have an atrocious development cycle and constantly push broken updates onto their customers. It would be one thing if this only happened a few times by accident, but it is the norm. In fact the entire process of installing updates on Windows is one huge hassle.

I currently use windows 10 with updates disabled. And I know you're gonna say "b-but muh security" and let me respond to that by pointing you to 50% of MS's updates in this year alone that either broke the OS, caused an infinite update loop, actually made security worse, and outright decreased performance. They've recalled more broken updates than they've sent out fixed ones.

I am using it, and I always feel like I'm only one update away from a completely broken system. It sucks, things will randomly stop working after updates. Last time it broke my bluetooth, leaving me without a keyboard.

Dear Microsoft "viral" marketing team.

Your product offers no additional benefits of your previous three products.

Instead of fixing broken things you keep releasing features that are themselves broken.

The product has been in development for 3 years since release, and still has no uniform visual style, allot of items do not seem to serve a practical purpose, and there are still left overs from the Windows 95 era in your UI and code.

WIndows XP was an absolute shitfest at first and it was fixed quicker and better than the abomination called Windows 10

7 was criticized for confusing control panel redesign. All these dumb links that lead the same places. XP's icon view was way better, and 7 still has that as an option. Or just use the search box.

It was not called annoying apart from people disliking the glassy theme, but they switched to the classic theme. Some missed the XP style themes.

It was never considered more botnet than XP or 2k. All of them are suspected but never proven to contain some sort of backdoor for the NSA. 10 is proven to collect all sorts of data for marketing purposes.

Updates were never forced before 10. You could pick and choose updates, remove ones you didn't like, or disable updating entirely, all with normal GUI options meant for those purposes.

Updates never added "features" or bloatware. Some service packs added a little, but it was typically security enhancements to battle current malware threats.

7 has never had ads.

Not trying to shill but I had the same experience with Ubuntu back in 2012, it still has it's issues but at least updating your system doesn't break the fucking install anymore, it's actually useable. Windows on the other hand...

Until today I was a Microsoft user all my life.
I really liked the operating systems I used (Win98, WinXP and Win7) but now that my new computer came with Win10 and all its downsides I just couldnt take it anymore.
Writing this on Kubuntu 18. It just works.
Even the bluetooth works now without problems unlike before, and I didnt even need to install the drivers myself.

I don't like the fact that it literally updates every day and you can't really choose the updates like in Win7. But then again, Win7 is obsolete and if you're using it without the regular security updates you're playing the russian roulette. You can use it if it's an offline-only machine, i guess.

well there are different kind of botnets.

There are benevolent botnets, or "ironical botnets", they are owned by corporations like MS or Google. An average user can and should trust them, because the CEO and other officials are public figures and they can be brought to justice if they do something wrong.

And then there are real, malevolent botnets, that are run by criminals and hackers. These are really bad, because they can steal your identity and CC information.

If you're a part of the former, it's not even that bad, unless you're a tinfoil tard. While if your PC is in the hands of the latter then you're really fucked. So, you have to differentiate.

i might have trust issues, but i saw windows crashing after updates multiple times in my life so i believe it's justified paranoia.

I tried it on launch and the search was awful so I went back to 8.1
I tried it again for the anniversary update and the search was still awful so I went back to 8.1

I'm thinking of switching back to 8.1. It seems 10 is pretty pointless. I tried 1803 and it's just 1709 with a new feature I don't use, fuck me.

Just do it, move to 8.1 and just put in Classic Shell and you'll have gotten your real ad-free desktop experience back.
I use 8.1 and tried out LTSB in a VM. It's nice but 8.1 is still better.
