maybe some people want to see the specs of other users.
maybe some want to brag about their ricing.
maybe some really hate the mods for bringing these threads to /trash/.

I never understood why people use i3-gaps. Why waste all that screen real estate?
Hudson Gonzalez
its actually herbstluftwm it uses frames, so there can be a million windows behind my browser. also theres floating windows
Ian Jenkins
Oh neat. One thing I never liked about i3 is I can either have floating windows with a Z axis or the tile grid with floating windows. A combination of the two would be top shelf.
Jace Flores
i have never used i3, i dont really understand how floating windows work in i3. in herbst your either in tiling mode or floating mode. everything gets tiled or everything floats
Nathan Wood
Interesting, thanks for explaining user. In i3 you can have tiles or tabs, then floating for specific windows. Floating windows are always on top of the tiled/tabbed ones, but have normal WM functionality aside from that.
I like to keep my terminal floating, for example.

what are tabs? and with the floating for specific windows, thats a function that i wish herbst had. it only has the floating mode where it acts similar to a de
>noice
thanks :)
Eli Diaz
Here's my i3 setup, read the terminal echo for some context.
Jeremiah Jenkins
Kek, forgot to sleep for scrot, it kept the command in the shot. My bad.
Michael Diaz
oh so the tabs function like tabs on a browser but for different windows/applications? also in herbst u can set a keybind to get rid of the gaps
Andrew Rodriguez
>oh so the tabs function like tabs on a browser but for different windows/applications?
Pretty much exactly like that. It's per-workspace and entirely customizable, I just chose a minimal setup because I need as much screen space as possible (I don't use a monitor with my laptop) and spend most of my time looking at an IDE, a browser or a video, not more than one window at a time.
Camden Hughes
nice and makes sense, cool setup and cool bar :)
Carter Bennett
Thanks fren. Highly recommend checking out i3, from what I can tell it isn't too far removed from herbstluft. If you want a bar similar to the one you use with i3, also check out polybar.
