I'll bet you're posting from a T420/X200

wat ?

Leopard + Lubuntu 12.04. Installed since 2013 with no real problems, except for dust in the Airport connector and some missing HDD messages in OpenFirmware if I don't power up this baby once in a while.

yeah, nice combo

What's wrong with apt?

Debian only supports ppc64el now.
Doesn't even support POWER/PPC

i heard ppc openbsd is rather good. has packages, too.

It's going to fail. GNU/Linux on ppc hasn't been able to use novideo graphics cards since KMS was implemented.
t. I use an iBook G4 with Debian as my main laptop.

G4fag here.
KMS is broken with Radeon too. Weird colors and MESA can't understand how to create surfaces.

I'll copy and paste my reply from another chan sine it my be useful to OP.

Emerge yaboot-static instead of yaboot
If you have ATI GPU add this to /etc/yaboot.conf and ybin -v
append="video=ofonly radeon.agpmode=-1"
You might need to tick Firewire if you use the pmac32_defconfig when building the kernel.

Other useful shit you might need.
