First, dealing with "big data" is a key skill set, and if you can show experience, certificates or whatever on your CV, that's a big bonus. So good for you.

There is a good number of jobs out there that will spell out 'big data', and they are not hard to find. Don't know about how difficult it is to get them, don't know much about the competition.

There's also a large number of companies that have a big data problem, but haven't realised it yet. So there's a lot of potential there. Take my field, earth sciences. The new generation of earth system monitoring satellites of the European copernicus program shits down more than 11 TB of data - every single day. Try to do science with that. And most of us scientists don't know the first thing about modern computing in general. So if you wedge yourself into a niche, you probably have a good future ahead.
