YouTube

Why do people still go to this website? Most of the videos are obvious clickbait, try-hard gamers, American Idol/talent shows, or propaganda talk shows, and it's owned by Google. I noticed that the most popular videos are ones that are for young children (all those toddlers with their devices and autoplay) or popular music. I don't know about you guys, but I think YouTube is cancerous. Surely there is a better site?

Because there are a few videos that are worth it that you can't get elsewhere. The front page/recommends are purposely cancer, it's supposed to be advertiser bait to show how friendly the site is. Nobody actually watches that shit.

>The front page/recommends are purposely cancer, it's supposed to be advertiser bait to show how friendly the site is.
A lot of them are sexual, though. I thought advertisers might not like that.

>I thought advertisers might not like that
You mustn't see many ads, then. Lucky you.

I know what you mean, but Google was purging controversial things they advertisers might not like, and I'm not sure if sexual content was included. You can report sexual content, but Google seems to be really lax about it. But if you say something they don't agree with, you get demonitized like PewDiePie.

Either you don't like internet videos or you don't use it with a account.
Use a account and it will learn what you like. It's pretty repetitive when it comes to music though.

Sorry you don't know how to find the good content, story of your life though right

You're right, I actually don't use it with an account, but Google's tracking creeps me out. I only watch like two channels anyway.

>clickbait, try-hard gamers, American Idol/talent shows, or propaganda talk shows
Well, don't watch those, see what's recommended to you, not what's "trending". One of the few times the botnet does its fucking job.

>A lot of them are sexual, though. I thought advertisers might not like that.

Sex sells is the #1 rule of advertising dummy

>Look up what you want
>Sort by less views
>Find decent underrated YouTuber that actually knows what’s doing
>Sub
>Repeat
>Ignore all other shit on the website

Works in my machine :^)

People still go to YouTube because there's nothing that's even comparable, and you know this. Why do people ask stupid questions?

comfy streams from around the world
lectures about anything from universities around the world
local videos in many languages

I use youtube to find new music and listen to music if I don't have the files at the moment. Everything else is of no interest to me.

As a sidenote... disable your search history and disable... some other feature I forgot about, and suddenly, you'll be presented with more interested recommendations because Youtube does not feed you the stuff it thinks you like anymore. Burst your bubble.

what channels do you watch

if you're logged in when you watch videos eventually you fill up your history with related things you watch so you avoid the click bait garbage

The first sentence he typed, pretty much. Nowadays it's useful as an enormous repository of videos on just about anything, but the community aspect of the site went away a long time ago.

It used to be a lot of fun to just spend time on YouTube, back when mass monetization wasn't a thing, the layout of the site and user channels wasn't retarded, and most videos were made for fun or for a bit of e-fame rather than for money. Back when small channels actually had a chance, there was much less clickbait, and viral videos just happened, instead of try-hards hoping to come up with the next viral video by using every trick in the book. Back then, the average folk ran the site, rather than a relatively small number "content creators" as it is today.

It was also very quick and easy to set up new accounts, so you felt like trolling, you could make sock puppets at lightning speed.

(Also, in the really early days, it was a haven for pirated stuff, because the site hadn't yet gone full Nazi on copyright.)

If you want an alternative, try VidLii; it's basically trying to imitate old YouTube.

Before Google made it worse.

I put no thought into that phrase, but I'm sure you guys know what I mean

>Most of the videos are obvious clickbait, try-hard gamers, American Idol/talent shows, or propaganda talk shows
I go there for those few channels that aren't and which I appreaciate
oh and I also go there for free music

>Surely there is a better site?
>vimeo
>vidme
>minds.com
>lbry.io
but they don't have why I visit YT

It's still pops up, but maybe it eventually stops.

There were still a ton of faggots on the website tho eg TheAmazingAthiest

youtube alternatives have lack of programming-related content

So many cringeworthy teenagers posting comments on there. Not sure when pretending to be an idiot and talk like niggers became funny.

Nobody should shill for channels, you have to find them yourself. Like porn in the woods.

>Shilling channels
I don’t know dude. Find the ones you enjoy yourself, I doubt you have any interest on the shit I watch anyway.

Sure, there were; it was never perfect. Even back then, there was monetization, but the key was that only the biggest of the biggest channels on the site could get access to it, and even then (I think) it wasn't really that much money: it would have been insane back then for even the most-subscribed channels (in my day, it was a toss-up between smosh, nigahiga, and Fred for #1 most subscribed) to become multi-millionaires purely from YouTube monetization, as is the case for PewDiePie today.

Thus, you had a balance of money-driven, extremely professional and polished stuff coming from the truly large channels, and a whole lot of much more down-to-earth and authentic, everyday stuff coming from all the non-monetized channels -- and the great thing was, those channels all had a fair chance of being seen! What's happened now is that two-fold:

1. the introduction of mass monetization, rather than for just the biggest of the big
2. modifications to the search algorithms that screw over channels that aren't participating in monetization

With this, all the everyday authentic stuff uploaded for fun by everyday people gets pushed to the side for monetized, clickbait, try-hard viral garbage. The everyday folks leave, and take their uploads with them, leaving only the monetized content.

That's not to say that all monetized videos are garbage; again, the site is useful as a video viewer. But there is surely a large portion of monetized videos that there to generate views to generate money, nothing more; genuine quality is not a concern. And as a video sharing ***community***? That's long gone, sadly.

Guys, go to VidLii, pls. It's what YouTube was back in the day.

Stop shilling your channel

Enjoy your ban

eurorack module reviews

What a fucking retarded question. Anything that's not porn, gore or piracy is on youtube, so of course we'll keep using it. It also does a better job than any other big site of hiding the trash and showing you things that are related to your interests, as well as not showing you things you don't want. They used to have a bunch of garbage in the front page, but they moved all that to the trending section that no one forces you to ever visit. They used to push featured content down your throat but added the option to mark videos or entire channels so they stop getting recommended.

VidLii is a website, not a channel. If you want other YouTube alternatives, try Upload Stars, Metacafe, Dailymotion, or the ones this guy mentioned.

I just prefer VidLii because it's the only video-sharing site that seeks to imitate Old YouTube.

Network effect.
Also, I can audio stream any song on my TUI so basically it's where I get my music.

>Surely there is a better site?

There isn't. No other comes close to the infrastructure that Youtube has because Alphabet can just keep throwing money at it. The cancer is the price you pay for having videos buffer instantly on a "free" service.

I ran multiple successful channels (including viral content) from 2009 up until 2013 and can fully confirm everything this dude right here said. Google's shit was only annoying starting from late 2011-2012 but it pretty much all rapidly went to shit after that. Heck i pretty much gave up on trying to counteract/cope with all these forked userscripts and whatnot, they just keep breaking it and piling on more shit to drown out all the good stuff/community aspects on that site.

Also fun fact, even for mid-size content creators not directly endorsed by them (but still with tens of thousands of subs) nu-google purposefully tries to fuck things up. They've gone to openly fucking with view counts and subscription notifications now at this point. They seem determined to kill the platform in its current form off for good for some reason

Also this isn't spam wtf

Their algorithms are a mess if you ask me. Open a new private tab and watch one video, then return to the main home screen, and nearly every video will be related to that first one you watched.

Or, have an account with unique recommendations, watch one trending video and bam all your recommendations get replaced by stuff relating to that video.

Some channels are ok like RedLetterMedia
>Vidlii
My absolute nigga

Because there are some cool channels that produce interesting content, like Steve1989MREInfo.

Attached: upgrades.jpg (1267x543, 153K)

Because there are gems like this on youtube:
youtube.com/watch?v=-5wpm-gesOY

Because they have the best selection of 4k video.

They're advertisers. Sex gets clicks. Their ad gets views. You really think they give a shit if PewDiePie says "Nigga" no they don't, they get views for their ads from him. The only reason the adpocalypse thing happened is because the companies had to save their repuation, PR basically.

Everyone agress YouTube is a cancerous piece of shit. But's a monopoly. There isn't a better alternative, atleast until there is a mass-move of creators to another platform.

Where else do I get my

among other non-educational entertainment? I watch everything directly with MPV so no comments/ads.

You have shit taste.

How do you guys find videos if you just use mpv? You still have to use the website to search for things right?

To begin with -- we're not what you'd call -- human. Over the past two hundred years -- A kind of consciousness formed layer by layer in the crucible of the White House. It's not unlike the way life started in the oceans four billion years ago. The White House was our primordial soup, a base of evolution -- We are formless. We are the very discipline and morality that Americans invoke so often. How can anyone hope to eliminate us? As long as this nation exists, so will we.

Human memories, ideas. Culture. History. Genes don't contain any record of human history. Is it something that should not be passed on? Should that information be left at the mercy of nature? We've always kept records of our lives. Through words, pictures, symbols... from tablets to books... But not all the information was inherited by later generations. A small percentage of the whole was selected and processed, then passed on. Not unlike genes, really. That's what history is, Jack. But in the current, digitized world, trivial information is accumulating every second, preserved in all its triteness. Never fading, always accessible. Rumors about petty issues, misinterpretations, slander... All this junk data preserved in an unfiltered state, growing at an alarming rate. It will only slow down social progress, reduce the rate of evolution.

there are decent channels like Primitive Technology and

You. Have. Shit. Taste.

Idk I think they're funny

I never look at trending or recommended. I sub to channels for niche content that I like.

>Getting THIS assblasted over someone else's preferences

I love CGP Grey

Your preferences are shit and so are you.

Youtube recommends based on what you watch. If you're getting recommendations for videos for toddlers it's because you watch the same things they do.

Attached: Capture.png (1312x732, 1.1M)

Thanks, you sound like my mom

They have a nice collection of anime music videos, with poppin' fresh songs and cute 2D frolics.

I watch talks and lectures from authors, automotive stuff that interests me, project electronics-related channels, and then random documentary uploads from back when discovery and history channel had anything worth watching, like Wings or Great Planes.

Without the 3rd world viewers, most of the popular 'vlog' channels would not make much money. They all use the same basic formula, stupid pop-hiphop music interludes, drone footage, etc. That stuff is annoying.

Youtube needs a worthy competitor. The only company with the experience is pornhub. Apple would fuck it all up like they do everything and does Microsoft even have a media presence? Google wants to turn youtube into itunes.

You really hate Casey Neistat.

STiP0 doesn't upload on any other website as far as I can tell.

There's a few content creators that usually have few viewers, often get their channels flagged or their videos removed for stupid stuff, that are worth watching. Most of them eventually upload to bitchute as well.

But yeah, YouTube for what YouTube considers as good content that's trending is absolutely a waste of time.

My suggestion, keep looking because it's absurd that you would leave a platform because it doesn't easily show up everything that you would want without looking around.

A man that fucks 60 year old plastic dolls and women who store every kind of substance inside their vaginas? No thanks!

>Why do people still go to this website?
Because they are not completely fucktarded like you.
So here is the BIG reveal faggot: youtube content exists beyond "what's hot/features" and clickbait videos.

Holy fucking shit, how do you arrogant baboons even manage to exist?

>He says, on Jow Forums

>Everyone agrees YouTube is a cancerous piece of shit. But's a monopoly.
I forget where I saw this, but someone pointed out that an interesting thing about the Internet economy is that it seems to favour monopolies. People cannot compete; once one website is successful, nobody can copy it for some reason. Amazon is the same; even eBay is fading out now. Facebook is crushing all competitors, and Google runs everything on the planet now. It's bizarre.

YouTube is great for things you want that you can't get anywhere else. If you open YouTube and look at the Trending videos, you're a fucking retard and deserve to be shown videos for retards. But without YouTube, I would never have discovered my passion for communist-era pop music:
youtube.com/watch?v=yZ1Ml-r_8dk

That video has 99,000 views, but it's still seen as obscure and pointless by YouTube. Do you really trust a business that would treat my 3D waifu in such a way? Fuck off to your 11-year-olds with shocked-expression thumbnails and emojis.
