Just posted in the last thread as well

Brainlet here

I'm trying to find an fhd ips mod for the T430 i just got and I'm confused as fuck

I can only find these guys:
ebay.com/itm/LCD-controller-board-1920X1080-IPS-1080P-FHD-Screen-Kit-for-thinkpad-T430-T420/202273388906?hash=item2f186ef96a:g:lgUAAOSwvshauxTu

My lcd is not on the comparability list they have, the fru is: LTN140AT20-602

Can someone just spell out for my dumb ass if this mod will still work, and if not what are my other options?

Is there side affects of putting Ivy Bridge CPU in T420?

uh guys, there's a thread up right now showing an x220 with libreboot. Can you explain how he did it?

You can't put an Ivy Bridge in a T420 with the stock BIOS.

They are extremely expensive to buy on local classifieds. Just buy off ebay.

>

Pretty sure OP is fag, the one other thread that is, although, this one might be too, we will never know unless OP post feets.

what is a good price for an x220 in decent condition? They start at like 150eur on ebay where I live. Is that too much?
Also, is there any difference between the QWERTZ and QWERTY keyboards other than the layout, obviously? QWERTZ is standard in my country but I prefer QWERTY and would like to replace the keyboard.

Who here is max comfy?

is that some kind of card game event?
what are the people on the racing/gaming chairs doing?

Test

It's my local hobby shop. The gaming chairs are for gaming computers, and its a MTG hobby shop along with being a comic place.

looks cool. never seen something like that

It's in the Antelope Valley, California. If you're ever in the area, check it out.

will do if I ever visit california (I live in Europe)

What screen do you have on your T420?

last autismpad came in
>tfw the IPS is so nice I kind of want another one just to store it
FUCK

Attached: IMG_20180526_190905.jpg (2592x1944, 1M)

I have decided to be a crazy motherfucker and use Haiku OS on bare metal on my X220 when it arrives. The i586 build could make a netbook sit up and do tricks compared to Linux years ago, so a 64 bit build, an SSD, and an i5 ought to be fun.

Attached: inquisition_marks.jpg (1280x720, 131K)

Anyone have a Thinkcentre? How are they? Is the layout pretty customizable in the bigger towers? Currently looking to get one with an i5, 4gb ram, and slap a HD6770 1gb gddr5 in there.

Attached: M73_Family_01.jpg (996x1024, 121K)

The SFF ones are nice little actual desktop machines. I've never used one of the towers.

tfw you install manjaro and suddenly you have a touch and pen screen.

How many of you use the menu key? I’ve just started using it to correct mistakes during writing emails and it’s awesome

Attached: 457CB2FB-546D-45F2-885F-63BB4E85C2A9.jpg (675x400, 79K)

Does anyone know if the x220 uses the same hardrive caddy as a x200? my 200's motherboard went south and 220's cost less now than what I paid for my 200.

I do, nifty little thing

Is $450 too much for a t450 in good condition? Pic related

Attached: 1518762147086.png (1944x683, 80K)

I use it as a Compose key.

brainlet here in upgrading laptops.

have a latitude e5410 for six years now.
changed the battery, HDD (to 2TB) and screen but dont know if i should upgrade the ram or graphics card (intel ironlake) in fear of it not working with the processor (intel i5).
anyone know if i'll have any issues if i upgrade or what's the upper limit if i can upgrade the graphics card or ram?

i use it a lot as i dont use my mouse a lot, whenever i have to handle a lot of files and on gimp for right click, it works like a charm and very quickly than the mousepad or external mouse.
my right thumb uses the nipple mouse to go to the layer or image and my pinky uses the menu.
so yeah pretty power user of the menu button here.

What honest difference is there between core duo and the i series?

Attached: index.jpg (183x276, 8K)

Your graphics card IS your processor. It's on die. Upgrade your RAM.

Well for starters, the Core Duo is 32-bit.

Core Duo/Quad generation is an older microarchitecture with way less IPC than even an original Nehalem Core i.

i didnt understand, do you mean i can upgrade my RAM without consequences but not the graphic card (let's consider they are separate)?

so i have my eye on a 16 GB RAM for cheap, can i go through?

Are the Sanyo batteries shit for the x220?

is the E series legit ? Looking at e580 with the i5 -8250u

I'm on a core-duo right now running 64 bit kali

Your graphics are physically on your CPU. You cannot upgrade one without the other. As for RAM, go ahead and max out the capacity and speed supported by your laptop's motherboard. Fast, dual channel (or quad channel, etc.) RAM is a major quality of life improvement.

You're probably referring to the Core 2 Duo

Attached: surething.jpg (720x1129, 59K)

The highest I can go. 1600x900 rez.

Yes you autist

thanks user.

Attached: 1495573585938.png (1000x826, 135K)

I just realized how fucking retarded I am.

I order one of the kits that comes with the screen included don't I?

Attached: games.jpg (400x553, 124K)

No. X/T/P/A only.

T580 i5 mx150 8gb 128gb Yes/no.

thanks mate

How much?

i was into E580 i7 rx550 8gb model, but you cant get proper cooling in 2cm laptop so i7 cant work at full potential, now i think about T580 i5 mx150 8GB.

take a look.

PC110

where can i find one?

Attached: img_1788.jpg (800x533, 134K)

why the fuck would you need one ?! i want T580 (now i have 4th gen asus consumer laptop)

What's the earliest model upgradable to 32gb memory?

w510

tiny

pls respond

Guy on craigslist said the battery lasted 5+ hours...

What is the name for older thinkpad keyboards? If they're chiclet why don't they feel like complete garbage like other chiclet keyboards do

go for it user, im in market for new T580 i5 8th gen (i7 throttles too much) and i will spend 1350 on it.

wtf 1350 for a thinkpad? I thought half the point was how cheap they were

comfy
tablet meme is decent

Attached: Screenshot from 2018-05-26 21-12-41.png (768x1366, 669K)

krita is pretty nice too
pls use for next thread
also, should i start a patreon?

Attached: tpg.jpg (1600x1200, 174K)

Sheesh, why not just get a W540 with better specs for a lot less?

yeah 4:3 is a meme, 9:16 is where it's at

Attached: Screenshot from 2018-05-26 21-18-05.png (768x1366, 615K)

well new T model with dGPU is never cheap.

Think I would be greedy to ask for that t450 for $400? It has a 500GB ssd and 16GB ram already so I'm not sure

yea there's no way

>fall for the thinkpad meme
>fall for the linux meme (mint)
>get a 9-cell and expect 6 hours battery life with net browsing and low screen brightness
>only get 3 hours

the power statistics application says the battery has 87% capacity so what the hell? why is linux so bad at power consumption?

>Mint

What's the best way to fix palm rest wear?

cum on it

get a replacement or paint it white for the sexy look

Attached: x100e_white_2.jpg (750x466, 92K)

because i plan on long term investment like 10y(plan on maxing it out 32 ram ssd+hdd in next 5y)

Is there a Latitude equivalent of x230?

Automotive paint? Replacement isn't really an option unless I import parts.
Tempted to bring it to a place and get it color matched.

Can other laptops use track pad stickers cut to fit?

i heard plastidip works well

my friend has an e6230 and its pretty swell, even has an hdmi port

I have a T420 coming next week. Besides upgrading the hard disk to an ssd what other changes could I make? I read about flashing the bios to accept a faster wifi card. Would it be worth changing or is it a just a meme?

Attached: thots.jpg (900x1200, 262K)

first time linux user

Don't. Wear shows that it has been used a lot, which is nice. Just keep it clean.

I am starting university for EECS in the fall, I need one for about 600USD any luck?

>need

What games are you playing on your x220 / x230?, genuine question so I can download some

Attached: lh6he8Tp7EuGFUnpekqzAUhV9iwOVZKpaOVJnJSHLSw.jpg (960x716, 89K)

You should throw it out and get a mac

My hair isn't that poofy REEE

Also how is the x220t, I still need to fix up my x61t?

Only factorio to satisfy my autism.

>Have t440p
>best laptop I've ever had
>gets really good battery life
I am so glad I got this; Have had it for two years so far and works perfectly. I do kind of miss my x60T though. I also wish I hadn't sold my x200T

Is it even possible to find an old ThinkPad without a crack on it? I just noticed that the one that I just got has a small crack on the side of the palmrest and I'm unreasonably upset.

whats the best bang for your buck thinkpad tho? any of the new ones good?

i'm guessing it's just coreboot + grub and he's using libreboot's grub.cfg

buy a new palmrest then

OpenTTD

That's what I plan to do.

install tlp and its modules, just googling tlp should be enough to find instructions, after that, sudo tlp bat and you'll be fine.

I'm new in the thinkpad scenario and want to buy a substitute for my Compaq nc6220 (more than time, might I say), so I've been looking around for a laptop with enough horse power to run CS:GO smoothly whilst being a tablet variant, for I also draw. Looking around I've noticed there are several chipsets for most models on ebay (e.g.:x220t), what's up with that and what should I beware of? What price range should I expect an x220t (8Gb ram, i7 2640, 128+Gb SSD) to be at?

Just did this myself. You'll need to coreboot properly first. You can find some decent guides if you do a little research. Here are the points I got stuck on if you want to do this:

If using flashrom on a rasberry pi, you need to specify the spi speed to recognize the t420 rom chip. Also, make sure to specify the correct pci id for hd4000 graphics when making coreboot, I believe it should be 0166.

Other than that I have had had no ill effects, works great for me, I am loving the performance boost.

you could flash coreboot to accept ivy bridge too. I just upgraded to a 3630qm in my T420. That would also get rid of the whitelist for upgrading the wifi too. I've also heard about swapping out the screen, but I haven't looked into it too much.

easy, email the seller and ask him
they usually answer within a day

I riff on you alot tripcode, but I unironically think you're cute. would cuddle with
The x220t is cool, the screen isn't as responsive to the fingers as I thought it would be but it's serviceable. Hinge is better than I thought, but overall the IPS display and the ability to read shit on it in portrait mode makes it better than the stock x220.
good meme/10
I think my collection is now complete
>Latitude E6440 with 1600x900, AMD gpu
>Elitebook 8470p 1600x900 almost mint condition
>Elitebook 8470p 1366x768 X2, using one as my main machine
>T60
>T61
>T500 with a cracked base near the hinge, I'll fix it eventually. And flash the bios. 1680x1050
>X200, mint condition. I love it but putting any wear on it would be sad. LED display
>dead X201 RIP was my daily driver from 2015 to 2017.
>T420 1600x900
>T530 1600x900 with nvidia
>X220T

Attached: 2018-05-23-1527117727_1366x768.png (1366x768, 1.53M)

FUCK actually now I want either another X220T or an X200T

Also make sure that the battery you purchased isn't chink shit. They often lie about the capacity of the battery, and put shittier cells in.
