Depends on the type of hacking you're doing. Literally impossible to get by without it if you ever want to do reverse-engineering and write binary exploits.

you wanna hack anything from embedded systems to banking applications, decompile and look at the assembly level. Shits super hard, and a lot of times spent just mapping what commands are used for, but there will always be exploits down there that no one checks for
