brainlet here. serious question

I told my friend I want a 2k monitor (currently have a 1080p shit monitor). He responded and said "you mean you want a 4k monitor"

Are 2k monitors actually 4k monitors? im confused

You're retarded

2k displays are not 4k displays, even the 3840x2160 we consider 4k is actually Ultra HD, real cinematic 4k would be 4096 by something.

thx

no, theyre different
"2K" has a resolution of 2048×1080, this is a 21:9 ratio, this is really rectangular
a "1080/HD" monitor is 1920*1080, this is a 16:9 monitor and is only slightly rectangle
"4K" is 3840*2160, which is also 16:9 and the same shape as a normal HD monitor but more pixels

1080p = 1920x1080.
2K = 2048x1080 = 100 pixels bigger than what you have.

Yes, your friend is right. You want 4K.

thx

1440p >2k

2560x1440.

Just get a 144hz 1080p monitor.
You will never need more

>You will never need more
I beg to differ, 2560x1440 on a 27 inch screen is pretty practical and doesn't need that scaling shit, 2160P needs to be about 40 inches big for a 110ppi and that's still a little tight for me, but usable, so it's not practical for the average user.

27 inch screen isn't practical :^)

Youre mum is, though.

Youre mom though isn't

Yeah it is, I'm using a 24 inch screen on a kitchen table I found by the dumpster and I could easily fit a 3 inch bigger screen here.

Don't come in me or my mom ever again.

YIKES

>108 PPI
That's pretty usable unless you're blind.

2K is a digital cinema term describing 2048x1080, sometimes incorrectly attributed to 1920x1080 (FHD) and 2560x1440 (WQHD)
it's never confused for 4K (also a digital cinema term, desribing 4096x2160, sometimes incorrectly attributed with 3840x2160, or UHD)

A thread died for this.
This is why we have the Stupid Questions Thread asshole.

2k technically doesn't exist.
