The scare of M$ buying github either real or not should make people aware of how little respect github has for its users. Compiling demands to rid of the "mistreatment" female users will get, client side JavaScript, and github itself isn't opensource.
Jow Forums should only use ethical repositories if this concerns you. The two being Gitlab and GNU Savannah. With Gitlab being the obvious choice if you want to migrate.
What the fuck do you expect MS to do to Github? You think they're just gonna throw out everyones source code or some shit?
Connor Brown
If it provides the same and/or better service that you have already been using, then you're full of shit. Why people get so butthurt from vague biases are just fucked in the head, like you, OP. Go watch some fairy tales or something.
Isaac Hall
if anything m$ might be behind these posts because it would reduce github's cost. obviously as they currently operate, they aren't profitable. maybe getting some people to "go elsewhere" will help them out.
Jordan Moore
Microsoft will either charge users.or fill it with adds to monetize it.
Jack Johnson
Even MS isn't stupid enough to not realize that there's alternatives out there They have to know that if they start charging, people will just leave
Evan Stewart
Shut up goobergater
Owen Campbell
Because it's either going to be like one of those things Microsoft bought that ended up abandoned, or they are going to EEE the shit out of all this. Either way, like fuck am I going to be a participant of that.
Austin Hernandez
They'll just kill it off Microsoft is a curse word in the world of CS
Blake King
>Le EEE meem Name one time they've done that in the past decade
Michael Moore
Nothing like eliminating the competition. It's been happening for a long time in the M&A/corporate raiding world.
Thomas Cook
We won't know if might be weeks or months Microsoft makes any drastic change if they wanted to. But the Github with out without M$ should be avoided as a service.
Owen Reyes
>vague biases What?
Asher Gonzalez
They'll turn it into a honeypot and data mine the shit out of the users, even more than what happens now. They won't charge but they'll introduce a ton of new paid shit features.
>abandoning something they use internally the constant github threads are just completely filled with out of touch jobless nerds who have no idea what the fuck is happening out in the real world
Cameron Clark
Should I buy GitHub 2018 Home Edition or GitHub 2018 Professional?
Nicholas Allen
Why not use Savannah or NotABug?
Sebastian Reed
Github 365 LTSB N
Charles Rivera
They're just going to open source it.
Robert Lee
Savannah only hosts libre projects, so most companies won't even bother. And I never heard of NotABug.
Ethan Ramirez
So GPLv3 code should be OK?
Landon Lopez
buy the one that spies on you and at the same time allows you the pleasure of subscribing to it
Connor Morgan

not like everything m$ pajeets go to shit *remembers linkedin* we all know m$ always try their best to improve their products and services *looks with disdain at windows 10 laptop* and not every company acquired by m$ dies *checks nokia windows phone*
it's a bright future for github
Gabriel Torres
>the rumor is true and gitlab is capitalizing on it >gitlab created the rumor While Linux guys are still doing what they always do anytime the hear Microsoft mentioned, I'm wondering which one because Microsoft purchasing github could make sense because that's what they use for repositories reportedly.
What Microsoft bought so far: >Linux Foundation >Open Source Initiative >GitHub
Who's next on their list?
Kayden Hill
Funny how first two are shit already. I see your point.
Jacob Scott
If it is a rumor it's a damaging one and would question why Github wasn't immediate to debase the rumor.
Kayden Powell
I'm so mad about this. Why should I move to Gitlab? Why is it the better option? Who owns Gitlab and why should I trust them to host my code? I'm legit curious and ignorant. I used both bitbucket and github but only once short time gitlab... Bitbucket (Atlassian) is pretty neat so why is Gitlab better?
Josiah James
I'd buy Canonical to lead Ubuntu development.
Gabriel Allen
>Linux Foundation >Bought Not quite the case, but I see where you're getting at.
Hunter Kelly
What if they bought Jow Forums?
Jow Forums would become /sjw/ Jow Forums would be filled with microsoft pajeet shills and xbox gaymers /a/weebs would be banned due to copyright
most things would be put behind a paywall.
Jacob Long
>every
Justin Collins
>Who owns Gitlab Sid Sijbrandij; Dmitriy Zaporozhets >Why is it the better option Respects their users "We want to allow everyone to contribute to software. We recognize that many people have a need for free software to do this,"
Ryder Stewart
Possibly because its Sunday, I guess Microsoft like shopping on the weekend.
Blake Martinez
So pretty much like it is now except /a/
Camden Williams
>/a/weebs would be banned due to copyright That would make the site better desu
Jack Morales
Oh noes, should I move to BSD now?
Mason Hill
And Microsoft would unironically pay few cents (shekels, rupees) for MS shills.
Isaac Barnes
BSD, oh wait, that's Apple already
Daniel Myers
Linux Foundation isn't Free Software Foundation
Linux isn't GNU. Linux is just a Kernel.
John Gray
Work for NEETs? God bless MS.
Camden Gray
b... but senpai ... Jow Forums is an anime website desu
Henry Myers
whatever they do the fact that a large tech company is requiring another large platform should worry people. lest we forget the current fucking shitstorm with the google monopoly with their fucking captchas and data mining and blah blah blah.
As i remember they recovered few hours later. They also don't care about source leaks as github do. Savannah is still better for FOSS projects.
Sebastian Richardson
Still not a reason. This place is filled with data mining, google botnet, ads, paid services, etc... everything that Jow Forums complains about other places. Only now we have a nip instead of joo to own the place.
Matthew Ramirez
>hosting your code on GNU shit No, thanks. I'll stick to Chisel.
Jose Brown
Nice """argument""". Such a loss for FSF... :^)
Cameron Cruz
HAHAH
Jonathan Reyes
t. polfaggot
Matthew Nguyen
I don't give a shit what they do with it, I just don't want to participate in a microsoft-owned platform. I don't want to give them anything, even my data.
Yeah, good luck getting the average Asian on your side. They don't have victim complexes like white women and minorities. Now we know why Hitler allied with Japan :^)
Cameron Robinson
epic reddit meme. you got any more normalfag memes? got any of those facebook memes?
Alexander Gray
would potential interviewers look down on me if i deleted my github backup repos and gave them my gitgud.io repos instead?
Zachary Baker
it is funny because ms has it's own source control service and is is free for small teams, so you're just talking out of your ass
Nolan Jones
Silver light, xna, zune, windows phone, win 10, Skype is barely usable just consider it, LinkedIn is just as bad they always spam with fake friend requests, Xbox one etc.
Aaron Richardson
>white women are a barrier hahaahah so the time has come for them, poetic justice
Christopher Cooper
It'll just be pushed into their developer framework and thoroughly(natively) integrated into .net.
Colton Price
Virtually no recruiter looks GitHub profiles, seriously.
Jason Scott
Like Google didn't use internally every shitty and failed messaging system (even a couple of unreleased ones), and they still rot in software graveyard.
Alexander Rodriguez
I saw it on twitter
Ryan Ward
First, you don't have to use 'git' for version control, there are dozens and dozens of others en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_version_control_software. Second if you do choose to use git you can self host and just use cgit for a web front end instead of Gitlab or other middle-man cloud service. wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cgit If you have collaborators, you can still run a home/office server. They can easily use magit/emacs or the dozens of other git abstractions like repo to update on your server.
Leo Morgan
>Some of the biggest barriers to progress are white women I agree with this part.
Christian Jackson
KEKS this is fucking hilarious: Microsoft were told/"""suggested""" to express appreciation over the acquisition. They are flooding Twitter and Facebook with "nothing to worry about!" and "this is a new Microsoft, you don't understand!" messages.
What a pathetic level of shilling... how much do you think they paid for GitHub?
I've been using gitea.io/en-US/ for the past 2 months. It's fast as fuck compared to GitHub GitLab and Bitbucket and if you don't host it publicly then there are very few security concerns.
Ethan Foster
this can't be real
Nolan Nelson
I will switch my personal blog on gitlab, good thing it can also host websites. Can savannah be used to host random "personal" shit like dotfiles or it must be a software? Can it also host my website?
Thomas Torres
Why didn't Apple buy Github?
James Bailey
why would they? they don't make software
Noah Howard
>Chinese made >very few security concerns
Connor Foster
I found the answer, and i can't use savannah as a personal host service.
Sebastian Hall
I don't get why you people and them get so triggered by race. Like if they started saying they'd only hire black people, it doesn't really affect you and that's their choice as a private company.
if you can't host your own repositories what are even doing on this board hurr durr github, who cares
Nicholas Morales
Atlassian is fucking cancer worse than MS
Nathaniel Walker
Precisely. Just create a Gitlab instance or just plain good old git server and there you have it: no github. I mean: GIT is FOSS right? You can use it however you want!
Thomas Watson
>needing a "personal" host How are you people still getting these services mixed up with git? If you're hosting your own personal code that only you use on github, gitlab, gitea, bitbucket, or whatever then you got straight up tricked into giving away your stuff.
