it was the outage surrounding that. prior to that event, the gitlab service was spotty as hell and there would be random downtime when trying to push and pull to repos. there was a stupid amount of downtime for a stupid reason that stopped the availability of the service and it was the cherry on top of a shit cake

you can run gitlab locally. where i work they do that. for home usage, gitea is better since it uses less resources and it's not like you're gonna have an entire team or need some advanced usage out of it.

i think for a startup gitea should be enough too, but it depends on your usage/size etc
