hey Jow Forums you know how .gif only supports 256 colors right? how would i go about making a .gif-2 that supports even more colors? i was thinking of commercialising it after i make it, so people will have to pay money to use it on their websites and shit. it'll be really compact as well, preferably more compact than regular gifs. i was thinking of starting with at least a 1000 colors, and probably increase it later with software updates as the popularity increases

This is a free board kid, move along...

if gif is so good why isn't there a gif 2

I can see you're an "ideas man."

>let's improve GIF by charging people to use it
This should catch on very well.

What would even be the point of a gif2?

Everything it would do other lossless image formats like png already do better. As far as animated pictures are concerned webm has gotten quite popular and is rapidly becoming the replacement for gif so why gif2 over these, especially if you are charging people for it?

10/10

well i'm not programing this for free

>charging money to view animated images limited to 1000 colors when webm has more colors and full motion video for free

are you fucking retarded?

Why not?

> what is animated png

>hey guys teach me to make this product so i can sell it to you

>.gif only supports 256 colors right

If moot added apng support all those years ago it would have been the standard by now.

APNG's are huge, so what if we just had AJPG so we could combine moving image AND compression?

It doesn't sound like you're programming anything at all.

Did you mean aPng?

png supports animation, animated images aren't fucking bleeding edge user, find something better to monetize

We already have apng which does exactly this.

It's called APNG you
b i t c h

i always thought gif's compression method is patented

@66223293
Sounds good, let us know how you get on.

it is, legal tension regarding that fact actually lead to the creation of PNG
the patents for it expired in 2003/2004 (depending on country), so it's a non-issue nowadays
