How long until USB-C is more commonly used than USB3/2?

How long until USB-C is more commonly used than USB3/2?

that's not how it works you asshole
you made this thread to troll
i am angry now
asshole
fuck you
god

50 billion years.

20 years

It will be a slow transition. More devices will start using USB Type C to Type A cables. Then motherboards and laptops start putting more USB Type C ports, which in turns promotes more Type C devices to be made. After a long time we'll all be using Type C to Type C cables.

That’s a long time, I thought we would be more advanced by then

Sorry I meant USBtype-B

Thats quite a long time span, but I guess the older USB connector is already pretty set into our culture and everything we own

2 months

5 years
10 if humanity is retarded

So 15 then

Eh, I guess.

Had manufacturers included adapters from the start maybe a few years....instead they make you but adapters and nobody wants anything to do with em...do likely DOA.

By the time everything switches to type-c, we'll already be thinking how to switch everything to type-d

but-buy

Attached: really.jpg (675x720, 67K)

>Sorry I meant USBtype-B
Basically no-one uses type B. The only things I've seen it on are printers and shit like Arduino.

Never. It's not as sturdy.

wtf!!! he didn't flip it in that picture!!!???

Type C is a huge fucking Jew plot to make more money, you need seperate cables to charge your device amd transfer files from your device to another

>hurr durr when will a connector replace a protocol
You are too retarded to be allowed near any technology.

>Basically no-one uses type B.
Type B is ubiquitous.
Normal B is used on all bigger slave devices.
Mini-B has fallen out of fashion.
Micro-B is fucking everywhere.
Micro-B 3.0 I've only found on portable HDDs.

This meme is one of the worst ever.
I always wonder how people are so retarded to put those thing in the wrong way? They usually have names/numbers/whatever engraved on one side for a reason. And it's always the same. Always.

By the time the new standard has started to roll out

>And it's always the same. Always.
Pic related. The ports are upside-down.

Stop being an autistic nigger. Not every product follows standards in the real world.

Doesn't every phone sold today have USB-C?

Since people replace their phone every 2 years I would say in 1 year time at least 50% of all phones have USB-C
And in 2 or 3 years time at least 50% of all laptops will have it.

Probably like 3-4 years for Mass adoption

Hopefully never, Type-C is far less durable than Type-A and highly unsuitable for non-mobile shit.

maybe 5 years and it will be other way around with the dongles.
more and more laptops are going C but only higher end

low end shit doesn't have it

pretty much all this years models have C charging if possible then 2 or 3 USB c

When they make their product is actually universal like its name.

Does anybody know how such USB-A to USB-C adapters behave when OTG is needed? I think it's a bit confusing, since USB-C doesn't need OTG anymore, but I think you still need a special adapter if you want to use an USB2 DAC like the Audioquest Dragonfly with your phone for example.

Because most people are broke and can't afford new devices with usb b or c

USB-C was a mistake.

Attached: USB-C.jpg (3456x4608, 2.72M)

Why would you want to replace USB-A? They're literally indestructible, both the socket and the plug. USB-C is garbage, on my mint phone the plug rattles around in the socket and once the clit that holds it in place breaks off or wears down with use it'll just be sliding in and out as it pleases. Absolute trash. Can you imagine having a device with USB-C and being unable to even plug it the fuck in because it wore out? I have 64 mb flash drives from ages ago and they still fit snuggly in the port after all these years. Can't imagine USB-C plugs still working fine after that amount of time.

This. They're fine for mobile shit and a major upgrade over Micro USB, but they better not replace Type-A for the sake of thinshit-loving normies.

Most of the time the USB logo is up

When will this clusterfuck of different USBs for portable devices stop?

How is it confusing?
USB-C can act as either a host or a client.

With USB-C to female USB-A adapter it becomes a host and you can use any legacy USB-A clients (USB sticks, mice, keyboards, etc).
Just like you would with an OTG adapter.

Once technology stops progressing.

USB-C can be USB 3 or 2 retard.
USB-C is a connector, and some phones with USB-C still use the USB 2 protocol version.

>some phones with USB-C still use the USB 2 protocol version.

Bull shit

no its not

you mean USB-A, and hopefully never. i work retail and 1/4 of the new laptops with USB-C have either loose or broken charging ports since they all swapped to USB-C. The square Lenovo plug was so much sturdier than USB-C it's not even funny.

Attached: .jpg (500x333, 16K)

Does that also apply to business laptops?
Or just consumer trash?

And can they only ever charge through one port?
Why not make every USB-C port a charging port?

>How long until USB-C is more commonly used than USB3/2?
Never, by the time USB-C starts to approach the ubiquity of USB-A every device will be using wireless standards like 802.11ad to transfer data

>every device will be using wireless standards
Sure, and nobody will use ethernet cables anymore either.

10 years is optimistic. And that's just accounting for new production, not including older hardware still being used.

>wireless

That shit is for cellphone lovers. In computer world i still prefer normal USB

I have yet to use USB-C. I don't even see it happening any time soon.

I have C on my phone but haven't used it yet.
Qi for charging and Airdroid for file tranfers.

Not soon enough.
I want every goddamn port to become an USB C port.
The technology is still not on port, especially for video, but.

I want 10 USB C on every one of my devices.
Phone, tablet, laptop, desktop, IDGAF.

Plug-in your data, charger, video, audio.
It'll simply work.

I only have a few usage for it ATM, but damn it's comfy.

Can't wait for it.

Monitor? USB C
Headset? USB C
Pen stick? USB C
External HDD? USB C
Video projector? USB C
Charging phone? USB C

At this rate, that shit will go from USB to simply SB, it´s not universal anymore.

Not anytime soon. Even today Samsung still releases mid-low range phones using micro usb b, and those make up for more than half the worldwide Android market.

Galaxy A5, A7 and A8 models 2017 and 2018 say hi

>type-d
This does not exist.

IIRC fagbooks can use any of them.

Hopefully never, don't want more flimsy connectors.

>After a long time we'll all be using Type C to Type C cables.
No way this will turn out as you said. (((they))) wil most likely clotter the market with another newer version of a connection type way before USB type C got fully home on the users.

They will do it like they did with HD ready (720p), Full HD (1080p), 4K, and now 8K.

>Pen stick

Can confirm, got one from work

Back to the SCART plug for you.

Couple more years but it does seem to be happening. Low end devices are slow on the pickup. Apple is supposedly moving to USB-C to lightning so that should help, too.

USB-C IS USB 3 you dip and many other things (depending on the standard its based on)

Literal autism.

Pretty much now?
USB-C replaces microusb as much as USB-A

the horizontal ones are easy, the solid half of the usb is usually down. it's the sideways connectors that are more annoying

Fuck I hate Tim Cook.
This his fault.

If Jobs had still been around, Apple would have submitted Lightening to USB IF and made royalty free - just like Mini Displayport.
Instead we have flimsy shit USB-C and 120% Garbage USB3 via modified 9pin USB-A

>he doesn't solder his adapters directly to the board
