So after 15 years of pretty much constant torrenting I've received my first copyright notice.
I'm not going to click on the website, as I assume that acts as some kind of acknowledgement, but I'm pretty sure it's when I downloaded the second Fifty Shades of Gray movie for my wife, as the time stamps match up. It was either that, or A Quiet Place which I downloaded on the third of the month.
They don't seem to care that much, and seeing as 90% of what I pirate is anime from nyaa do I really need to do anything, or will they fuck me if I torrent anything from now on? Am I on some kind of watchlist and do I need a VPN? If so, whats a good free VPN for torrenting movies, etc?

Mullvad is $5 per month, has sane people behind it and keeps no logs.
Liam Hughes
a free vpn will collect all data you use and sell it for advertising. So when they get said DMCA claim they will have to hand over this data to the claimant and nothing will change. Thats why you go for a VPN which does not collect data so it has nothing to hand over if asked.

Zachary Thompson
>keeps no logs. >it says so on their website!
Landon Evans
*fapfapfap* yep that's going in my leaky asshole collection
Easton Perez
Can you definitely prove any VPN provider doesn't keep logs? You kinda have no choice but to go on trusting their word.
VPN providers should have some incentive to be truthful about whether they keep logs or not. All it takes is one court case where the prosecutor presents VPN logs that aren't supposed to exist as evidence and all trust in that provider will be shattered and they'll lose all their business and never get it back.
Eli Cruz
They all do, absolutly no exception.
Daniel Wood
Seems like they've ramped up with this whole copyright infringement thing. I wouldn't worry, it's just an advisory thing, but (((they))) seem to make a bigger deal out of it now.
Henry Jones
Dunno how it works for BT, but the ISP I work for normally won't do anything unless you get 3 or more copyright violations on your account. We automatically shut your internet off and put a note on your account saying that (when you eventually call in) you will need to speak to our DMCA team to get it resolved.
Just a fair warning, if you ignore it and get more, they will likely do something about it.
Justin Cooper
OP here. I'm torrenting Zero's Familar right now from nyaa, so I'll see what happens in a few days.
Jordan Gray
Get a seedbox, much better than a VPN for torrenting.
Hunter Thomas
They found out that you read it when you loaded images from their site when you opened the email. Maybe.
Sebastian Jones
>the ISP I work for Go on.
Colton Sanchez
Why jump to VPN? Full Stream, non-optional encryption on a randomized port should work just as well.
Jaxon Brooks
I thought PIA was subpoenaed by the feds in the past and had nothing to hand over.
Aiden Carter
>who think lol legalese bs
David Martinez
I hope you're right. I torrent like a madman but never seed. No notices yet.
Eli Watson
Personally I use a seedbox for around £7 a month. It's faster, I can just stream from the seedbox instead of having to SFTP the files over, I can leave things seeding indefinitely, and I never need to worry about configuring torrent clients or VPNs.
Wyatt Brooks
>brown person
It's always a brown person.
Connor Martinez
Don't respond to them. If you do they will know you exist and(depending on your country) will either cut your cable or charge you. And don't use free VPN. If you can't buy one just read twice the comments on a torrent. If you see one or more that says they received an email, get away from it.
Jordan Cooper
PIA has proven in court that they don't.
Colton Morales
>never seed so this is why public trackers have been dying so hard the last years
Liam Jones
>Fifty Shades of Grey for my wife
lmao m8. You're being cücked by a film.
Christian Brown
Based user. Basically you have to trust that the VPN doesn't keep logs.
I used to work for a large VPN inthe U.S. We didn't keep logs because said logs cost $$ to store.
HOWEVER, if the Feds showed up with a warrant and needed to track a user's activity, he had to comply.
Moral of the story, use a VPN, and don't be a kiddie porn cuck.
Jacob Diaz
Seriously OP, stop being a poorfag and pay for a fucking VPN. They're like $40 a year!
Easton Perez
I would recommend PIA, 2 year sub is really cheap. Alternatively find the cheapest one you can get. It doesn't matter since Govt isn't likely to go after you for piracy and these people shouldn't be able to obtain any info even from a shitty VPN. Just google the VPN's name to see if there have been any news about them giving out non-existing logs to anyone.
Just don't do anything more serious and expect to get away with it.
Dylan Sullivan
Jesus first they euthanase the kid whose parents wanted to go to the states and now they're decapitating infants. "Free" healthcare hard at work it seems
Sebastian Barnes
No, streaming services are killing them.Normies feel better about themselves when they pay to see garbage instead of (((stealing))) it.
Juan Ramirez
Get a VPN, I use and personally recommend pia. Use it when you're torrenting and you won't get harassed by movie studios ever again.
Parker Rogers
What? PIA releasing logs is the entire thing that fucked lulzsec you retard
Jason Gray
Are you sure it was PIA? A quick google search and HideMyAss gave over some info but couldn't find anything about PIA.
Connor Lewis
>torrent like a madman but never seed There are people on Jow Forums RIGHT NOW who are really this dumb.
Jaxon Jones

>BT Nobody actually cares. Also >we have to let you know when this happens Cool, they let you know, now you can keep doing what you're doing. If they send you more letters and start including genuine warnings, then you may have to care, but most likely they're just required to send you this but don't give a shit about what you're actually downloading.
Xavier Nguyen
BUY A FUCKING VPN IT IS STILL CHEAPER THAN PAYING FOR IP
Camden Sanders
Seeding torrents is like Christianity. You should seed because of the belief that's supposed to be shared, but by simply downloading you are actually contributing in a minimal way to the demand for piracy.
So it's really a matter of perspective whether Jesus Christ/seeding is necessary.
If you're downloading a file, chances are you are uploading at the same time before you stop the torrent client. So the IP lawyers can get you even if you set the seed rate to stop at 0. That's the real reason why I quoted the dumb user.

HACK SOME FUCKING WIFI FROM LIKE A MILE AWAY DUUUUUH

Torrenting is unislamic brother.

All it says is they have to notify you. Delete that email and move on with your life.
Christopher Ward
Either this is a social engineering scam, or the UK government believes in open deception and derision of their people.
Cooper Rogers
>the UK government believes in open deception and derision of their people.
He stopped shilling TunnelBear when McAfee bought it, now he shills PIA. PIA is US-based, though.
Thomas Foster
Torrents are peer to peer, though. Just download the torrent file through your normal IP and then connect to the torrent over VPN.
Leo Wright
Gmail botnet? Html email? Web beacons?
They already know you read it.
James Johnson
Nothing will happen. ISPs have agreed to send these letters to avoid being forced to take tougher action. Log in and find out what they use as indication your connection was used. Oh and use a VPN you fucking mongoloid
Isaac Ross
>I'm not going to click on the website, as I assume that acts as some kind of acknowledgement
nice logic but if that were the case , opening the email itself could be tracked via a pixel... Serving as acknowledgement
Josiah Roberts
Ignore it and move on. The first few copyright notices you get don't mean anything; it's just your ISP being forced by a third-party to notify you that someone detected you downloading copyrighted material; your ISP doesn't actually care, at least at this point. Now, if you continue to receive more, they may take action including throttling your internet speed or disconnecting you entirely until you call and speak to someone.
Carson Brooks
You're joking but they do require a license for BBC Iplayer
