This thread is about the appreciation of watches, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.
I've been considering getting a vostok watch lately, I've decided to go with zenitar, but I want to know - does anyone know if they'll take requests ie ship the watch without the strap so I can put my own nato on?
Luke Nguyen
Order from meranom and they will pretty much customize however you want.
Joshua Edwards
Do they ship to Australia? How do I order customizations, is there an interface online or do I email them?
Really? Everything I read or see online is positive. It just seems it looking like a Rolex ribs some people the wrong way

What's a good watch for my boyfriend?
I have $2000.

They can't think for themselves. Steinhart is a decent Rolex homage manufacturer and occasionally other designs. ETA movements are still standard for most of the industry, not bad, but unless a higher finished model nothing special either.
Sinn.
Connor Butler
They're shameless rip offs of other manufacturers for the most part. If you want something that looks like a Submariner you'd be better off getting an Invicta Pro Diver with the NH35 Seiko movement and saving the other $200 or whatever the difference is.

Best watch for innawoods/tactical occasions?
Sebastian Ramirez
plus saphire crystal, plus ceramic bezel plus decent strap
oh wait you only save like $20 and you are left with a fucking invicta
I've got a Seagull 1963 on order, anyone have any opinions on straps? I'm gonna take it off the nato it comes on as it looks tall enough as it is. I was thinking a brown or tan smooth leather strap but I welcome ideas.
>I want this so badly but I don't have 300,000$. ;_; What do I do... Buy a sothis

Speaking of watches being technology...I never seen any fitness tracker watches in these threads. I like my Vivosport because it has GPS and can track my long distance runs when I decide to run outside and take a random path.
In case anyone else is interested, Meranom has a bunch of new 960 cased models up for order/pre-order. I ordered the white dial GMT because how can you say no to applied indices, black outlines and a pseudo GMT complication for $105?
Are you talking about the folded link one that's on the SNK809K? No, it's not new
Sebastian Kelly
ETA makes fine movements that work decently well and are reliable and there is no problem with ETA. The problem lies with iwc taking a movement you'd find in a $400 watch, putting it in an oversized, shiny case, and charging 5 figures for it. For people whose interest in watches is driven by movement technology, iwc's watches have a huge (huge) cost premium for a shiny case.
Angel Gutierrez
Not that guy but I find nothing wrong with an ETA movement. They are not a bad movement but in the same regard they are nothing particularly special in most cases either. And no all ETA are not made equal so in theory more expensive ETA based watches should have a bit nicer finishing/regulation As well as be higher grade calibers. Of course not all brands follow this so do research. I think the bigger critique most level headed people have is at what pricepoint is it overpaying for one? Most of the time the movement alone is not the only factor in play and some of these ETA based watches can offer a lot of interesting elements for a good cost. But after a certain pricepoint most people are seeking something kinda more special, which an ETA movement does not really offer.
>What’s the case diameter? Pic related. If I end up not liking the 960 case I'll switch the movement, dial and bezel to an 020 case I already have or I'll order a 420 case.
I completely agree with you. I like the look of some IWCs (but they are mostly too big) and they do some cool work on their ultra high end watches, but they really have no excuse for still using ETAs with their long history. It’s just them raising profit margins.

What ref is this pls

SNE107 with a custom machined bezel

I have an old Ingersoll at the watchmaker in this moment, not so old like the one in that pic.

What's wrong with the 2824?
Joshua Clark
Liking this SSB025PC far more than I thought I would.
i'm saying that asking this question is a stupid one, 2824 is a great movement that's why it's so widely used
Alexander Long
Can you do a wrist shot from a slight angle a bit further away?
Landon Brown
I bought the watch purely for the dial, hands and movement. The 020 case is all brushed externally, which I prefer, so there is a pretty good chance I'll end up swapping to that case.
The 4883 (and associated non-superior versions) have an interesting second hacking feature; when you pull the crown, the second hand jumps to the next 10-second mark (so if you pull the crown at :52, the seconds hand jumps to the top of the minute). Makes setting the watch easier and more precise.
This one is missing a piece of the bracelet and the spring bars seem absolutely shot. Will be replacing the spring bars and trying to source a donor bracelet for that extra missing piece.
