This thread is about the appreciation of watches, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.
For silver version I prefer the average display, I thing green map looks way better when the watch is the black one.
Bought the watch because another watch I had was dead and I needed something digital with aditional stuff for bike rides because my analog watch is too simple. I was about buying the classic casio f-91w but saw this watch and remembered I wanted to buy it many years ago, so I ended buying its more expensive, but it looks cool.
Is the Tudor GMT the poor man's Rolex GMT master, or is it the modern-day equivalent of what the Rolex GMT master used to be (i.e. much more affordable)?
Nice homage, are you not poor enough to get the real deal?
Brandon Murphy
I'd rather have the Tudor than a modern GMT Master. But I'd rather have a vintage GMT Master.
Grayson Martin
I'm just not confident in my watchmaker skills that I can service it back to chronometer grade.
Jace Morgan
>fake rolex fag Well this thread is already off to a good start
Isaiah Mitchell
I need a dress watch, I need swiss made hand winding and I need AR coated sapphire but I'm poor. What do I buy?
Nathaniel Rogers
...
Bentley Gutierrez
I guess check out Hamilton.
Sebastian Evans
I feel like getting a Chinese watch what's a top tier one for $200?
Josiah Morales
Tissot maybe?
Dylan Hughes
Tudor Heritage Black Bay.
Bentley Jenkins
Parnis stuff with Miyota 9015/Seagull 2824 clone, I think
Christian Ortiz
Which watch manufacuters aren't basically just jews? Seiko doesn't count because they don't make the 4s15 anymore and shoved it into a more expensive line once they realized how good it is.
Jack Garcia
What defines a manufacturer as being a jew or not?
Aaron King
>ask watchfinder&co to find a fairly expensive, super rare seiko >they basically laugh and say they're not interested in finding a seiko
How rare are we speaking? Like 1/2500 or like 1/10 ?
Nathan Bell
I've been doing that and they can't find one, but they weren't specifically watch dealers so I figured I'd try a watch dealer. WF&Co reaction is annoying. I'm guessing for this sort of thing you just have to beg on communities for people with watch collections.
SAEK013 but I'd settle for an SBDS001
Anthony Powell
I'm not sure about numbers but the more rare of the two does not even have a youtube video
Wyatt Clark
>SAEK013 They're literally everywhere, dipshit. It's not like you're looking for a 40's Seikosha.
Benjamin Perry
>SAEK013 I see one on yahoo nip auctions right now.
Dominic Carter
They're literally not. You will not be able to find one for sale
Look closer that auction is ended months ago
Aiden Davis
Would someone like Seiya be able to help sourcing one?
nigga lemme pull out my white perlon and lemme get some beads too
Blake Sanchez
The latter. Tudor's GMT movement is at minimum every bit the technical equal of the Rolex 3175, and the styling goes back to the toolwatch aesthetic of older pre-maxicase GMTs.
My main complaint with the Tudor GMT is the size and thickness. If they made a BB58 sized equivalent at 39mm wide and ~12-13mm thick it would be a pretty close aesthetic successor to the 16710 GMT. See pic related comparing the styling on the Tudor to a 16710 and to a modern maxicase abomination.
Good one. It's not even at customs yet. It should be the next stage. Last time it took them 16 minutes to get my package from this stage to the customs.
Ethan Jenkins
Don't downgrade what they offer ever
Camden Adams
Seiko did later develop the 4L35 and the new 6L35 for that niche, and does sell less adjusted GS movements badged as 8L35s. The 4Sxx requires too much hand labour to be feasible for mass production at competitive price point.
Also, I'm not sure I can think of a watch manufacturer that is less of a jew than Seiko. Maybe Damasko if you consider their cost structure might be worse than Seiko's due to limited scale of production, though Damasko does get to freeride off the aerospace business.
Landon Collins
Thx 4 replies.
Now another question: when you're in Europe and buy online from a Japanese store, are you exempt from the Japanese 8% sales tax?
Ethan Flores
Why the fuck would ask them instead of asking here first? Even if we don't know the answer ourselves, we know all the right specialist forums to direct you to.
Wyatt Cruz
I did ask here 2-3 weeks ago. Nobody made any suggestions though one user did say they would look into it.
Isaac Clark
Nah, exactly the opposite, you have to pay vat on the japanese vat too. Fucking stupid and outdated the world's import tax system is.
Justin Nelson
If you go to a Yahoo! Japan Auctions proxy bidding site like ZenMarket or Buyee and search "Seiko 8R39" there is one for sale right now.
You're welcome.
Asher Ramirez
Got this in yesterday, I love it :3 The Hamilton electric I got with it tics in a very interesting way, Im not sure if in gonna keep that one.
My question: >Is everything on and inside the watch the original pieces?
Their answer: >You can see the whole scope of delivery on the pictures.
What kind of an answer is that?
Charles Gray
Chink watches Orient Citizen NOMOS
Too bad Seiko is still kind of better in value unless you do something like get a used NOMOS club or like solar watches.
Don't get too hung up on cost cutting.
Julian Hernandez
I dont think thats supposed to come off user. My best suggestion is to cone the ring so it fits inside the notch again, then flatten it out with a punch.
Joseph Clark
Thanks user, I thought for sure I wanted the SAEK013 more but now that's within reach, the SBDS001 is calling me again. it doesn't look as good but that power reserve and display back..
Ryan Wright
Go to the same place and search "Seiko 6s37" and there is one of those for sale too.
Joseph Wright
God damn. Still, if I buy a Seiko Tuna in Japan, pay the 8% Japanese sales tax, and then pay 21% Euro customs on top of all of that, the Tuna is still 25% cheaper than buying one retail in Europe.
Dylan Gomez
It's "don't ask questions, just look at the pictures" Usually the mark of a shitty seller
Ayden Watson
I like Nomos but they're (ironically) jews.
Lincoln Moore
Shit, thanks. I already tried that earlier but with seiko in katakana, got no results. Watchfinding is treacherous and fraught with pitfalls.
Mason Johnson
Wait, that should have worked. I must have typed 6537 instead of 6S37
Jaxson Ramirez
I remember the electric, looked pretty nice.
Ayden Bailey
Let this be a lesson to you to never underestimate the autism of /wt/ again.
Zachary Taylor
Does it mean that they are hiding that they have changed something in the watch?
Tyler Kelly
There's no notch, just a 90° wall on the inside. My guess is that maybe the ring was flattened so it pressed into the inner wall.
Owen Scott
Hey I only underestimated you guys because nobody could help last time. I see the error of my ways now. I don't suppose you'd know if a back plate swap on the SAEK013 for a display type is possible with off the shelf parts?
Charles Adams
Let me give you a list of things to look out for when doing the math >Price >transfare fees >Exchange fees >Jap vat >Service fees (if proxy) >Shipping within japan(if proxy) >Shipping >Eu Vat >Eu tariff >handling charges
Juan Robinson
Maybe. It's usually sellers who have thousands of items listed and barely know what they are.
Dominic Mitchell
I don't, off the top of my head, but if you remind me in a few days I'll look into it when I have time.
Wyatt Torres
Left, right, neither? They're about the same price
Neither are to my taste aesthetically, but from a technical perspective I'd say you should consider whether you prioritize accuracy at keeping the running time, or a better chronograph mechanism?
The 6S will be expected to be the better timekeeper, but the 8R has a vertical clutch and three pointed hammer so all the chronograph registers reset simultaneously.
Michael Wood
the blro's bezel looks purple and pink
FACT!
Jayden Gray
is the tudor gmt too thick to buy?
I don't like the gilt (read GOLD) in the 58...
Should I just buy a submariner and call it good?
Jose Powell
If it's a submariner you want, yes, you should buy one.
Oliver Miller
If you wait, I'm sure Tudor will make more color versions of the BB58. If I were buying a sub, I'd only consider pre-maxicase models.
I might not be the right person to ask though because I hate the sub and would never buy one, even though I really like the 1675 and 16710 GMTs.
Cameron Barnes
I've been trying to find a new luxury watch that suit my liking and my baby wrist, in the 4000-7000 range, but it is extremely difficult because they're all so damn large.
Maybe I should just give up the prestigeous brands, and just find a more affordable watch that will look great, but ultimately won't make me particularly proud to show off. I'll learn to love it if it's good looking.
So, any suggestions in the 2000 to 4000 range?
Lucas Collins
Despite being a seiko it would not be my beater so neither is important. Just a present to myself for doing overtime.
My friend has been looking at the Rolex GMT for a while, and yesterday he settled for Tudor. I know he wanted the Rolex. I'll tell you what I told him, if Rolex is what you really want then just go for it.
Kayden Cooper
Just buy a 36mm datejust
Jonathan Torres
I would. But I won't. Because it's Rolex.
Oliver Ramirez
Yeah, honestly I think I'm just going for the SubC no date.
Asher Scott
If only I had the money for a pre-maxi, I'm pretty stoked to see what they do with the 58. I hope to see more interesting iterations than the black bay. a GMT would be nice obviously, so would a rootbeer/british racing green/burgundy done right etc. (again we'll see)
