To use it, you need basic computer skills. To maintain it, you need a major in CS. To fix and tweak it, a bachelor's degree. To contribute to the project and understand what the hell is going on, a master's degree.
GNU aka Linux is quite simply put, not capable of being a normie-proof OS. When will the devs wise up and make a distro where you simply do not need to ever touch the console?
Linux is a kernel and it's "devs" do not make distros. There are normie proof OS's, like Ubuntu and to an extent Debian. Any questions?
Kayden Ross
Yes, why does a "normie-proof" distro open .deb files in a text editor instead of installing them automatically? Why does it ask me for a password at login and proceed to ask me for a password everytime I try to actually do something system-wise? Why don't USB drives mount automatically? All rhetorical questions, don't answer. I know you'll say security. So here's a real, follow-up question: Why doesn't GNU just incorporate an actual fucking antivirus and increase quality of life?
Parker Walker
>To use it, you need basic computer skills. as with any operating system >To maintain it, you need a major in CS. Not really >To fix and tweak it, a bachelor's degree. Nah, just patience and autism. If you have neither, don't try to fix or tweak things you don't understand. >To contribute to the project and understand what the hell is going on, a master's degree. Same with literally any operating system, you can't contribute unless you have enough education to understand what's going on. Try applying to work at Microsoft to "contribute" to Windows with just a high school diploma lol
>GNU aka Linux is quite simply put, not capable of being a normie-proof OS. Yeah you're right. Fuck normalfags though, I'm comfy. They can just buy macs or something.
Leo Robinson
But windows does the same shit
Jose Jones
Windows usually aks you if you're sure you want to run CP.mp4.exe and in case you do, the built-in antivirus deletes the file. >I'm comfy... ...with that 1% marketshare special snowflake OS.
Asher Wilson
use kde or gnome or mint or any other retard-proof DE, all of those problems don't exist. every single one of them, anything else ?
Mason Wood
wrong you need a cs degree to use it.
it comes with this advanced thing called "command line"
Hudson Lopez
They do exist as I'm currently on Kubuntu. When was the last time you used Linux?
Tyler Allen
Stop talking bullshit I wrote my first kernel module when I was 17
Cooper Wright
>you need a cs degree to use it then what have I been doing for the last 10 years ? not using it ? I'm using gentoo right now, I just don't use DEs, I do remember auto mounting USBs and Deb package management being there in kde thought, you're retarded desu
>GNU aka Linux is quite simply put, not capable of being a normie-proof OS Good.
Grayson Brown
>gentoo right now No, you're not. >I do remember No, you don't. Stop talking out of your ass, you're out of touch, gramps.
Thomas Sullivan
>>To maintain it, you need a major in CS. >To fix and tweak it, a bachelor's degree. >To contribute to the project and understand what the hell is going on, a master's degree. how are all these neet brainlets doing all that then?
Michael Mitchell
Ubuntu created a generation of retard usere unable to install packages by themselves, they download a retardbuntu version per niche: Pornbuntu Googlebuntu Firefoxbuntu Officebuntu Lamerbuntu Gaymerbuntu
Luke Clark
Copying off youtube videos.
Alexander Mitchell
To shitpost, you need Google translate. To shill, you need to take online English classes. To speak to Microsoft customers, a tech support job. To understand what the hell is going on, an American education.
Tech Support aka India is quite simply put, not capable of being a useful in any way. When will the poos wise up and make a call center where you simply do not need to ever speak to Pajeet?
lol this is so true. i just installed the new ubuntu lts on a skylake dell inspiron and suspend wouldn't work, i googled it and it's a decade old bug that was patched but never backported and still isn't fixed. linux doesn't even have functional drivers for an intel usb 3 controller that's as common as dirt and that's why nobody uses this shit anymore.
>some finish guy and thousands of elite programmers around the globe shape and create Linux in millions of LOC >somehow cannot make automatic, behind-the-scenes dependency fixer and package installer Hint: users are consumers. Developers are thinkers and makers.
Oliver Stewart
Hah. Nice.
James Lopez
Are you seriously? You can switch off Windows Defender and because Windows sucks.
Gabriel Bennett
Go fuck back to with your shitty memes
Jacob Gomez
You can, and it turns itself back on, on Windows 10. This is good, windows does not suck for this reason.
You concluded that by someone providing a fix (hack)? Definitely worse. Surely Windows has done nothing but improving. >1.93% >Shit, pardon me. Oh, wow. Playing obtuse. No one has done this before in these threads.
Lincoln Cook
I spent an hour yesterday trying to get gnome extensions working and made sure I had followed the instructions correctly but it flat out wouldn't work even with the gnome browser extension/gnome-chrome/gnome-tweak-tool installed, it's fucking garbage
>obtuse What, you will try to push extremely specialised scenarios where linux machines are basically abstracted, black boxes for which people get paid to maintain, as examples? Off yourself. Desktop is what matters.
Angel Carter
kys you fucking brainlet, im a degreeless alcoholic and I run the most perfect install of arch linux. Not even 1 out of 50 of you faggots know what processes are running on your machine or how to fucking configure anything which is not part of a rice toturial.
Let me guess here OP you have never contributed shit to anything that is remotely relevant to people, you are a CS major who got into linux about 7 months ago and now thinks he is the shit for running i3-gaps.
>Not even 1 out of 50 of you faggots know what processes are running on your machine or how to fucking configure anything which is not part of a rice toturial. Of course not, some of us have lives and jobs. I'll worry about configurations when and if I become a gnu dev.
Adam Hernandez
>Yes, why does a "normie-proof" distro open .deb files in a text editor instead of installing them automatically? Pretty sure Gdebi is installed on them automatically and it makes .deb installs a breeze. You just press a button that says "install". >Why don't USB drives mount automatically? Yes they do, might be DE specific then though. DEs do all kinds of stuff other than WMs only. Easy distros have automounting on by default anyway. >Why does it ask me for a password at login and proceed to ask me for a password everytime I try to actually do something system-wise? Only when you are doing something big that changes the system. If you just open the browser and Spotify like a true normie then you'll only see the login password which is very justifiable. I think this way is the best way. >All rhetorical questions, don't answer. Rhetorical isn't the same as wrong. Now I'd like to know which distro and DE you claim to use.
Henry Hughes
wow, macos is almost at 10%? jeez that's surprising for a niche hipster trash operating system
Dylan Price
Kubuntu, KDE.
Austin Clark
if its easy enough to do by watching chuckleheads on youtube explain it, it can't be particularly difficult.
Parker Rodriguez
t. Absolutely assblasted Spaniard
Kevin Murphy
Windows: apps: many Linux: apps: few
Andrew Hall
You really fucking don’t. Oh my god, read a book. Use google. It actually uses APT and opens the software center. Security. They do. In other words “I’m too lazy to learn new things.” Stop pretending you spend all your waking hours doing shit in linux, you’ve installed it once if at all.
Justin Diaz
>When will the devs wise up and make a distro where you simply do not need to ever touch the console? Hopefully fucking never.
Everything becomes garbage once normies get a whiff of it.
Liam Brown
I doesn't count if you don't understand what and why is happening. >"I'm too lazy To make computers, I get paid. 9-5 to be exact. I am not babysitting an orphan of an OS.
Evan Lee
>Everything becomes garbage once normies get a whiff of it. Ubuntu is a perfect example.
Elijah Green
>Ubuntu is garbage >Ubuntu is the overall most stable and representative linux distro
>being a complete copypaste cretin >>>/stackoverflow/
Ayden Lewis
>Ubuntu >Normie-proof Are you okay? Do you have brain damage?
Brody Barnes
windows manages just fine without touching the command prompt tho
Tyler Garcia
its less work.
Joshua Johnson
All of this is bullshit. I have half a computer engineering program behind me and that was four years ago, and I maintain multiple machines running different linux distros for different purposes, I've done plenty of fixing and tweaking and fixing too. Occasional use of the command line isn't an impossible hurdle for everyone.
Joseph Gonzalez
Windows will ask you for a password if you're not logged in as an admin. Linux asks for a password every time because you are not given admin permissions at login, which is the correct way to do things.
Most distros do not run executables by default when you open them from the file explorer because that is more secure.
USB drives usually mount when you browse to them in a file explorer in all the linux distros I've used for a number of reasons, including the prevention of infecting a locked machine by plugging in an infected USB drive.
Most antivirus programs are useless, an OS that requires deliberate action from the user to make changes to the system or run executables is absolutely a best practice, and you are a complete moron and you should stop pretending you know what you're talking about.
Wyatt Ward
Windows Defender is completely useless. It rarely even detects viruses, let alone prevents or removes an infection.
