When I first got my RasPI 3B, its Raspbian only recognized wi-fi, but not LAN. Updating Raspbian over the PI's anemic wi-fi wasn't much fun - took around 2.5 hours. Didn't have a microSD card reader for my PC, so wi-fi was my only option.
