Actually my local taxes are paid by coal sales taxes, which run off on to employees in an opaque fashion, creating a wage ceiling for anyone involved directly in the extraction sector and to a lesser degree the peripheral sectors. Plenty of entry level jobs can compete with their wages until they receive a Master's Degree.
