ITT: we attempt to post on Jow Forums using the oldest piece of hardware we own capable of doing so.
I'm not exactly setting the bar really high here, with a 2ghz Northwood P4 Mobile and pre-botnet Chrome (24 I believe) and I have a PIII 1200mhz Tualatin version of this laptop that can do it once I replace the hinge on the screen but let's have a fun thread to see who can post from the oldest hardware, I'll start.
Would you rather I post in descending order, or just skip straight to the pentium 1 (200mhz) / AMD K-6 II 233? Might have a Cyrix with win98 also on it but never tried to get on Jow Forums

Trips of Truth I'm tempted to launch my 486dx2
I have a 386 still but only DOS and no internet on it.

Post em all, show us what you got

damn, seems Firefox 2.0 and IE6 can't post?
Juan Sullivan
what's a browser that will work on Win98 that can post?
Kayden Rogers
Opera?
Ian Smith
Chrome has always been botnet
Zachary Morgan
damn it, IE6 can FF 2.0 can't use any site to download opera.

Holy shit I remember those, is yours the dual GPU version?
Adam Torres
Was going to post from my 486DX2/Win95 PC using RetroZilla 2.1 but Google (and a ton of other websites) recently dropped TLS 1.0 (and 1.1 for a bunch too) support. This leaves Win95 basically dead in the water in the last few months for accessing much of the web sadly. I've posted fairly regularly to Jow Forums on my 700Mhz P3/Win98 PC from Firefox 7.0, but thats not much of a thing. Opera 11.5 also works very well from Win98.
Adam Morgan
To follow up on this due to TLS 1.0 being dropped and reCAPTCHA now requiring a secure connection, from officially released browsers for the Win9x series there is no browser that can actually post to Jow Forums without a pass anymore. You must have KernelEx on Win98 to run WinNT era browsers to post. Truely it is a sad time. That said, you should be able to get a 386 with 16-32MB of RAM and post from a TLS1.1 aware browser in Linux. May take an hour, but you /should/ be able to do it.
Following up by posting from another one of my P3 PCs (I have 4 of them) at the very least to get Win9x on here. P3 1.26GHZ 512MB PC100 AGP GeForce 5600 256MB Sound Blaster Live! PCI sound card (For windows games, EAX audio) Yamaha YMF714 ISA sound card (For DOS games, 100% SB Pro v2 compatible) Posting from Firefox 7 over KernelEx
Interestingly most software runs just fine on this machine like semi modern m$ office. It's only when you fire up chrome that everything grinds to a halt, complex pages will just time out.
>Pentium Pro >1GB of EDO Christ, that would have been one hell of a wordstation back in the day. Chance for a photo of the guts? Those RAM modules have got to be huge.
Nathaniel Lewis
>1G EDO photo?
Cameron Green
Will post photos later but there's noting special about those IBM modules, it's 4x256mb, they're not even that big.
I had some old compaq ones which where huge, dimms where "T" shaped because there was not enough space to put all the memory chips on standard sized pcb.
Ah they won't support any modern SSL ciphers, Jow Forumsents. If you have a ton of time on your hands you could set up a proxy which terminates and re-signs SSL but I only know of being able to do that with a Sonicwall.
Austin Wood
This is my oldest Its a NX6125 with mods
Looks i'm one of the very few to own AMD Turion 64 single core with windows 2000
Sounds nice, I think it's capable of playing some old games like Need For Speed 2 - 6, Mashed - Drive To Survive (betcha not a lot of people know about it) and I quite expect it to run Ford Racing 2 and 3 as well.
Speaking of which , I remember I have a pretty old GPU laying around - a Voodoo 3 2000 16MB, that is in MINT condition. (the card, that is, as I bought it in a lot, none came with boxes.)

>tfw my pentium mmx powered pc psu had died long time ago shit. gonna try setting up infrared network for palm 3c in a minute, though somehow i feel like blazer won't be able to handle the html5 very well
Ayden Green
Tried testing the board with another PSU? (AT or ATX, as I've seen Pentium MMX machines with ATX) Assuming it wasn't scrapped, that is.
Nolan Evans
it's AT, i have only one AT PSU. It would probably work otherwise.
\ yeah i plan i add alot of games like that and decent 1,2,3 and dune and alot more it should run most retro games with little issue hopefully run MechWarrior 3
i was a voodoo ower too nothing match the details for sure.
vodoo 3 2000 are perfect for pentuim one and two machines
Tyler Russell
Keep it, and hunt down a AT PSU. Alternatively, try buying one of those ATX to AT converters.
Had to upgrade to win2k3 and later to win7emb to get modern software to work.
There's lots of japanese pages dedicated to win2k and how to sideload modern packages to get stuff like chrome working but it's all in japanese and really hard to understand. Never got it working.
To be honest i kept my win98se machine around for old games that still have no good win7/win10 fixes. Really obscure shit like roborumble or dominion storm over gift 3 which still crashes even with fantastic software like dgvoodoo which is good enough for more mainstream titles like mechwarrior 3 or total annihilation, say.
i dont boot it up much but it's always great fun when i do.
i have a kernel mod that adds a lot of winME functionality into win98, so I can still use some newer flash players, browsers, etc...and most things that claim to need winxp actually work fine on it.
Christopher Rodriguez
>How did you get anything to run on win2k? Hunted down older versions of the programs I would need.
The Firefox version I used in there was 10, the last to work under 2000 (tried 12ESR and it required me to have XP SP2).
Same goes for WinRAR, I had 3.80 which runs under 98SE as well (as the machine I took that photo on runs 98SE as well in a dualboot configuration)
Joshua Stewart
yeah I might mod my kernel too for newer brower support just too lazy ama
Sebastian Thompson
I can post here using a 300MHz SGI O2 with 128MB of RAM from 2001 as long as I have my pass to get around captchas. I regularly post from a 1.6GHz Intel Core2 machine with 1GB of RAM, and that one is from 2006.
Brayden Flores
Pentium II running Windows 2000. I didn't even manage to get Speccy 105 because the last firefox release I could install doesn't play nice with their version of https.
Samuel Kelly
Surprisingly cool thread idea. Good on ya, OP.
Oliver Martinez
ReCaptcha timed out once but aside from that after getting a newer firefox version posting went okay. I was really surprised the computer still booted, the last downloaded file was from 25.5.2008.
