The smartphone format will die soon. It will be replaced by foldable computing devices which can do phone too, but can also be connected to bigger screens or used independently.

At this point, we should stop calling it a smart-"phone" because the device is no longer built around its voice functions. It will be a device more focused on being connected all the time, while still being able to use it offline, and being able to do computing tasks on the go.

The most limiting factor for current smartphones is the small screen format, which makes software built for it look like toy software. Maybe foldable/portable displays will change that, to some extent.

Eventually, it will all move on to headsets with AR capabilities, that you could use like a normal pair of sunglasses or like a baseball cap.
