My brother just bought 4GB of DDR4 desktop DIMM for US$50, which is fucking ridiculous in 2018.

Price fixing to keep the price going down is someehat acceptable and people dont really notice (hello WD, Seagate and HGST) but ramping up the price of something as common as DDR4 memory by more than 3x since its introduction in ~2015 is ridiculous

Korea subsidies its tech industry. They let the car manufacturer Daewoo go bankrupt as a lesson but they'd never let Samsung do the same.
Also Samsung's margins aren't that large so whilst it may be chump change its not something Samsung would enjoy for their image as a Korean tech powerhouse
