Sorry didn't get the anwser in the previous thread.
Those b360 chipset boards, supposedly allow for only 16 pcie lanes
which means if you have a GPU and a pcie SSD, Gpu can't use all 16 lanes??
How much of a performance drop is there in this?
Or am i getting this all wrong.
Justin Green
>2018 >buying a locked CPU w/o HT >buying into a dead chipset That's only a 9 fps difference with worse frametimes, it can't stream at all and it already hits nearly 100% utilization. If the 2600/x wasn't out then sure 8400>1600, but otherwise AMD is the better choice.
Jason Bailey
>cucking yourself by posting a graph where it shows the 8400 is same perfomance with the $100+ more expensive amd build
Brayden Kelly
The 8400 gets maxed out in a lot of games, stop recommending that
Why would you use the dropping part of the game as a relevant benchmark unless you're clinically retarded? It's the worst performing part of the game as the assets are loading in. Frame time spikes ate generally as a result of asset streaming being slow or similar. I average over 100 fps on pubg with a 5 year old i5 and 1070 and the dropping part is the only time I get frame time spikes and even then it's rare. You've clearly never played the game.
Nathan Sanders
It is assembly day my dudes. Given that I know nothing about computers I am immensely nervous. Prepare for me to shit up the thread with endless questions
Why do you think this graph favors the 2600? The price is not even equal. Unless you justify $100+ is worth it for 5 more fps
Jace Campbell
Not them but I've read the article you're referencing and it should be known that
>The all-core clock frequency has only been increased by 16%, but we have also boosted the memory frequency by 16%. However more crucially are the greatly improved memory sub timings, combine all these factors in a core heavy game and we’re seeing truly massive performance gains.
>That said it’s well worth nothing that it took an aggressive all core overclock, ultra expensive memory that was custom tuned and an upgraded cooler for the Ryzen 5 2600 to basically match the Core i5-8400 in this title. So while the gains and overall performance was excellent, the cost to achieve it is great.
If the extra 5-10% performance is worth the extra $100+ Samsung RAM and an aftermarket cooler which can range from $30 for a 212 evo to over $100 for an AIO if you want a really aggressive OC then sure but these facts should still be known for the newbies who visit these threads.
Kevin Wilson
easily. The 8400 is already getting maxed out in games.
>spreading misinformation Its 235 i was hardly off in my estimate
Jayden Torres
Ok that's still about $60 than a cheap 2133 kit. All together you could be looking at around a $100 average extra cost overall with varying results depending on the lottery of your processor and how tight the timings you can actually achieve on that ram.
Jack Watson
i ended up paying 175 because i wanted dual channel and high clocks, b die is like over 200.
also amazon starts at like 175 so i get better confidence with prime that i can just return it easy.
wasn't gonna spend THAT much lol.
Blake Evans
It should work fine, update the BIOS and enable XMP/DOCP
Michael Williams
I bought corsair 3000mhz cl15 last year for my 8400 for $160. Gets the job done. Prices are still too damn high.
Ryan Price
I need to pick out an AIO cooler for overclocking the shit out of my R5 1600. Looking at reviews, it doesn't seem like there's a huge practical difference between 240mm and 360mm radiators beyond fan sound level, but there's often a decent cost premium for 360mm rads.
Should I bother paying more for a 360mm rad? What models do y'all recommend?
>than a cheap 2133 kit There's a noticeable difference when going from 2133 to 2933/3000. That's where diminishing returns starts kicking it. You don't need CL14 3200mhz, but 3000 cl15/16 is perfectly fine and can often be found on sale. I literally got the same kit last week for the same price. It was on sale+coupon code though. Could have gotten cheaper ram, but it was on the qvl.
I wonder if the corsair 3000mhz cl15 can oc. I wont bother because i am on intel but it may help ryzen users
Nathan Taylor
went with 3200 for after effects cause it was marginally more than 2666 and i'd rather just put the money in if i can.
Leo Reed
>Ryzen chips don't put out that much heat. What the average temps one should expect with a R5 1600/2600? I did a 15min stress test on Prime95 this morning on my 2600x and got 75c. But I think I fucked up with the paste.
Anthony Bell
Im thinking of getting a cheap 3200 and 8400. Do you overclock yours over 3000 or you have b360 so it caps at 2666?
Lincoln Scott
>AIO cooler I'd stick with air cooling, get a SE-AM4 NH-D15 or NH-U12S
I have a z370 because i bought the 8400 at launch. Z370 is only like 100 bucks now though so its not a bad idea to get it and faster ram, it will perform a bit better
Dominic Garcia
Unless you're getting a Z370 motherboard stick with 2666MHz or consider a 2600
Gabriel Moore
>I wonder if the corsair 3000mhz cl15 can oc 3000mhz is an OC. The base is 2133 at 1.2v I think. >Should I bother paying more for a 360mm rad? Are you adding a GPU to the loop? If not then no. Just get a 280mm. Keep in mind most 360mm AIOs have the same pump that's used for the smaller size coolers.
Julian Nguyen
I meam oc beyound the factory rated spec
Owen Thompson
2 minutes in and I have encountered my first question. The NH-D15 instructions state that for the SecuFirm mounting system to work, you need a metal backplate, which most AMD boards have. I am using an ROG STRIX Z370-E and as far as I can tell I have no backplate. Am I missing something?
getting a dh15 for mine. i was stuck between that and the drp4 but dh15 will be cool.
pun intended.
Jackson Powell
Thats the backplate right there in the picture silly. Slip it into the back of your board
Jaxson Cook
>silly >slip it in the back
*drools*
Jaxson Powell
I might be getting z370 too because i can get a 3200 the same price as a 2666 in my country so might aswell pay a little more for a better board. Do you oc your ram tho or leave it as it is at 3000?
Xavier Bailey
compared to an Intel chip? That's pretty cool.
Jason Taylor
I just xml and leave it alone. You couldnt manually tune it if you want but i wouldnt bother desu
Noah Anderson
What about compared to Ryzen chips?
Daniel Scott
I get 60c in prime 95 on my 8400 with a cheap aftermaket cooler. 75c seems a bit high
Thomas Sanders
I’m a moron! The D15 comes with three seperate sets of instructions, I was looking at the instructions for AMD motherboards, not LGA2011
Isaiah Wood
>xml kek but yeah i usually just turn on xmp and leave it be.
Mason Turner
Still not sure what temps I should expect with ryzen. 8400 is locked, at a lower voltage (I think) and has a smaller TDP.
Luke Rivera
>my 8400 with a cheap aftermaket cooler. Why? I know the stock one is shit but it won't throttle the 8400
Julian Nelson
>has a smaller TDP. This means absolutely nothing. Intel TDPs only cover the base clocks, not the boost clocks. Hardware Unboxed tested the stock Intel cooler and found chips almost always throttle with it.
yes it will.
Luke Barnes
Stock one is loud as fuck and hits 85c in prime95. M9i was 20 bucks and comes with paste, well worth it imo, but not required.
Jacob Powell
Is PBO enabled? If this is at stock what's the airflow like in your case?
Nolan Evans
>This means absolutely nothing. Wrong term to use I suppose as both Intel and AMDs TDP rating is junk. Actual wattage used is what I should said I suppose. But that still doesn't answer my question.
Elijah Flores
I don't even know how to enable PBO on this Gigabyte board. It's disabled in Ryzen master as a future feature. All I've enabled is XFR2 and XMP. It's on a H240-X though (that I think needs to be drained/refilled due to permeation/3 years at work)
Landon White
i was considering a scythe mugen or fuma, but decided to just go with the dh15. i hope its worth it lol cause the fuma bracket looks sexy as fuck.
Matthew Adams
Anyone got experience with this monitor? pcmonitors.info/reviews/benq-ew2770qz/ Looks decent on paper. Comming from 24" 1080p 60 Hz I'd like to go to 1440p 24" or 27", >60 Hz and G-Sync are a bonus. My GPU is 1080, budget 500€. Maybe I should wait(TM) until whatever whenever AMD will provide that can actually compete against the 1080(Ti)?
Joshua Parker
yeah that'll work fine. 27" 1550p ips is good.
Nathaniel Mitchell
Thanks for the suggestions anons, I think I'm still going to go with an AIO over air but I'll probably just go for a 240/280mm radiator. I don't plan on adding a GPU to the mix.
Jonathan Lewis
1440p* also i like the bezels.
Christopher Rivera
Which GPU manufacturer makes the quietest non-AIO cooler?
My current EVGA with an ACX cooler is loud as fuck.
>nvidia cards are pretty quiet. xfx, XFX is AMD only now. Nvidia tried screwing them over and they switched due to it
Jose Morris
not sure how quiet amd's cards are cause my last one was a 390. i know the xfx 580 was pretty quiet lol
its mostly just buy newer card if u want quiet
Hudson Sanchez
AMD cars are pretty quiet when undervolted and have the Radeon Chill software setup
Nathaniel Flores
Id run some kind of cooler. You really cant go wrong with which one
Robert Wilson
How worth is it DDR4 over DDR3?
Adam Foster
Is there even any modern chipset that supports DDR3?
Jordan Parker
no.
Jackson Peterson
i think most gpus have a cooler on them lol if youre going intel, usually a 4th gen cpu will run you about as much as a newer one. if youre going on budget and you need ivy bridge for some reason, ddr3 will be about the same. kingston ddr3 is a bit cheaper than ddr4 kits.
Jacob Ramirez
ddr3l tho lol
Aaron Diaz
What's your motherboard? You can check temperatures and how much its boosting with HWiNFO and p95 running. I'd recommend OCing though the BIOS youtube.com/watch?v=qqAu39UaDbM
Josiah Watson
It's the x470 Gaming 7. It's boosting to 4ghz. I'm checking it through Argus since Speedfan (what I was using for my 4690k ) doesn't work with this mobo. Checking the temps via the same program.
Jonathan Perez
>1GHz in difference.
John Butler
separate thread is apparently useless so I hope you anons can help me out, in lack of a dedicated storage general thread
so hereby my requirements: (external) storage solution that can hold at least 2 HDD's, that when plugged in is seen as a single partition/disk, with connectivity via USB3 preferably
if I get one of those HDD bays, can make them behave like a single HDD/partition when the bay is plugged in?
Bentley Parker
My thoughts exactly but I'm still hesitant because I hear things about just mediocore blacks and contrast. Are there any approved recommendations for 1440p gaming? I'm fine with TN if the whole package and pricing is fine.
Michael Barnes
use spanned volume in disk management
Zachary Morales
ah that sounds good, just didn't know if it worked with an external multi-disk setup thanks user!
Isaiah Lewis
if you want my guaranteed recommendation, get a asus va32aq. i only say that because i own one so i know it's legit for video editing and gaming.
it has a weird thing it developed though where if i let my computer go to sleep it will have backlight bleed around the edges but it'll go back to normal as i use the computer.
Daniel Morales
You could reset everything in Ryzen Master and try out the UEFI youtube.com/watch?v=2siG1G8FE4Q Try enabling EZ Overclock Tuner and Core Performance Boost (under Advanced CPU Core Settings) or just do it manually increasing the CPU Frequency and voltages (when you reach the desired frequency dial the voltage down until it's unstable to find the lowest voltage you can run it under)
OC aside the original question about about average temps for the 2600x. Someone said 75c was compared to Intel and another said their 8400 was lower. The guy asked me if I had PBO enabled, which I'm assuming I don't.
