Is there any software that is future proof?

Is there any software that is future proof?

if hardware is future proof

like vending machine, old symbian phones, os in cars

Yes, missile control code for nuclear ICBMs. Once one of these babies run to completion, there will never be use for any other software again.

The future changes

emacs

anything written in javascript

Vim

Economy management programs here in sweden at least...
By law companies has to keep all economy related data for at least 6 years and some time 10
Therefore companies needs to have their old programs available for at least 6 years after they stopped using it.
i guess there are similar lwas in other countries

cat

Nothing is...
ifconfig is depreciated now...

Update it because... come on ! it's [[current_year]] !

We updatet in in some manner...
We got Access 2000 to run as a RDS service for windows 10 clients...

Hackers Keyboard, literally, finished in 2013 if im not mistaken and just werks and is a cool

ping
telnet
netcat
ssh

still the hacker’s main tools after 25 years

>ifconfig is depreciated now...
I feel your pain brother.

must not be distributed as binary
so should not use a by-tradition compiled language
preferably written in a self-hosted standardized one
must not use external libraries
literate programs are advantageous e.g. TeX
self-contained messages are by definition future proof e.g. CosmicOS

5 years isn't that much of time though, and considering Android will eventually get replaced by Google's PinkOS, then HK is on its way to extinction

On Linux systems that is since it was a loan to begin with. ifconfig still reigns supreme in BSDs.

Can't they just dump the data into CSV files and keep it somewhere?

Apparently not... Thats what we said.

No. There's no way to predict what the hardware of the future will be like.

cd

There will always be the need to change your perspective.

this.

except not emacs.

"my text editor is really an operating system!" is a bad design and won't survive without life-support from the diehards. of course the diehard emacsies will live until ~2070 so it'll be a while, but the design is flawed.

vi/vim = perfect design
