I took a 4 month contract with a financial company for a massive pay bump (close to 200%). The staffing company and the company I worked for told me they wanted to me to go contract-to-hire.

I have a PhD in ME. Not sure what to do since I really hate the job. I spend a sizeable portion of my time drilling holes in metal or fastening bolts. I write short scripts in Python as time allows (which it frequently doesn't). The most recent being a Letgo listing scraper that outputs a html with just the listing thumbnails and relevant info devoid of all the bullshit that they slow down their website and app with.

I don't think I'd be able to qualify for any programming position, and at the same time most of the other ME positions will be as bad as my current one since at least my current one is "research" work.
