Arch should be the official GNU/Linux distribution of Jow Forums.
-18 minute installation
-entirely sane installation process
-completely minimal installation
-lack of bloat
-fully customizable
Why aren't you using it yet, Jow Forums?

I was actually thinking moving into arch, many people from my university have told me it's pretty good. I'm currently using Debian. What does Arch has that is better than the other distros?
Many things. The AUR (Arch User Repositories), (as I mentioned in the post) free of bloat, a lot of support (meaning a lot of new releases).
Also, if you don't like terminal installs, install Archbang or Arch Everywhere. They are automated.
Rolling release
>free of bloat
Is that why they include header files in all packages instead of splitting them like other distros or why they enable almost all options during compile time? Stop memeing about Arch being minimal. It's not. If you want minimalism then Gentoo is the choice. The only real advantage Arch has is AUR and (usually) more recent package versions.
You are retarded.
Gentoo is never a choice in any scenario.
>Why aren't you using it yet?
I am
Good boy.
>lack of bloat
>systemd
Yeah I used to think it was the shit too until an update nuked my whole system
I just use Lubuntu it's great
just stick with sid it's better
Biggest advantage is that you set mostly everything up, so if something were to ever break you have an intuition on how to fix it. However, in my experience it's much more stable than a distro like Ubuntu anyway.
>Systemd or NSAd as I've recently been calling it.
>systemd
>terrible security
>binary distro
>AUR is full of malware and outdated packages
>russian roulette with updates
>not Gentoo or OpenBSD
There's literally no usable system that just werks and actually gets package support that isn't systemd
What packages are essential that have a forced systemd dependency?
Literally not true
Uh. Most of them. Nonsystemd distressed leave you on your own to track down dependencies and usually everything's out of date and fucked anyway.
>Uh. Most of them
What a very nice non specific response.
>systemd
user, despite what many may think, installing Gentoo isn't in fact mandatory, so it totally is a choice. In conclusion, make your choice to install Gentoo.
About as specific as yours have been
Dude I'd be so fucking happy to be wrong here
Gentoo is horrible.
I asked you for essential software that has a systemd dependency to it and you've yet to provide anything.
this
NSA spyware had a systemd dependency
i'd love using a rolling release distro but i'd probably rage hard as soon as something breaks without me being at fault
let me guess you just installed it? see if you have the same opinion after you realize there is no snapshotting out of the box and your installation breaks a few times.
I've had it for a year or so now. No problems.
Listen man I don't know the answer ok? All I want is a nonsystemd that actually works and I mean works for braindead people . I don't think any of you actually do stuff with your computers
OpenRC hasn't given me any problems.
Void, parabola to name some are very easy, even easier than arch to follow. Parabolas wiki is very good. Coming from a guy that was on windows few months ago kid you not
MX Linux
Because I’m not autistic.
GhostBSD. Very easy and systemd free.
this is powerful bait
I was tempted, but I installed OpenSUSE Tumbleweed instead. Still rolling, but it also has patched firefox with thumbnails in KDE.
see how long it lasts before breaking, i'm two weeks in.
>Doesn't have Unity DE
How about you kill yourself, you edge lord?
unity is dead bro
NixOS is the new official distro of Jow Forums
You are stupid.
>recompiling everything on every update
No thanks.
Nice pentatrips tho.
Nothing. It's just a great way to waste your valuable work time so you can say your dick is bigger. Ubuntu is technically worse in so many ways, yet it's better cause you don't have to deal with shit all the time.
If you really want no bloat, go with FreeBSD. Systemd is gay. Or you can suck up your pride and just use Ubuntu Server LTS.
>ubuntu just werks
>you should consider freebsd and their CoC
my sides
Also
>muh valuable time
You're posting here, clearly your time is as worthless as any of ours
>I want to ""use"" the computer but I don't really want to use the computer
I think macbooks are more your style
Arch is a distro for brainlets who think other people are brainlets
I need a working system, not a bunch of building blocks
MacBooks are my style. I'm using one now. It's the only PC that's never given me chores to do, and if anything it's more capable than anything else as a personal machine (ofc I run big things on Linux servers).
Nothing.
AUR is shit, just copy of SlackBuild.
Rolling release, very old phrase, come on, you can upgrade any piece of software in real time. But without update, Debian can exist, Arch just crumble in shit without them
Slackware-current
How did you find it so far? I was considering switching from Solus.
>What is a computer?
You can change it faggot
Void
I think GNOME requires systemd, or actually a part of it, logind. Then again why would anyone use GNOME?
That would GuixSD /geeks/
arch "documentation in the wiki pages" linux is a piece of shit, why not alpine?
>-completely minimal installation
>-lack of bloat
>-fully customizable
Wrong
I was thinking moving to arch for my programming pc.
>no bloat
>freebsd
how's that vulnerable by default openssh treating you? enjoying pulling the better non bloated version from ports?
Someone make an Arch version of this.
I am currently using Manjaro with dual boot win10
does it hurt?
>it takes him 18 whole minutes to install arch
pathetic
>not using manjaro just to trigger the salty archfags
> lack of bloat
> contains 2 million plus lines of code that is the unaudited behemoth that is system d
Pick one
You will never be able to get rid of all the dependencies
Same here. Best of both worlds.
>using windoze 10
>ever
Install Gentoo, faggot. The you'll know all about packet management.
>packet management
>Using the Virgin Stable OS
>Yearns for Chad unstable OS
The absolute state of pa/g/eet
>Why aren't you using Arch Linux yet?
Because I use Gentoo Linux on all of my machines.
Explain, please.
I came here for it
I think is a good choice. If you want to compile something you don't have to install a trillion of - dev packages
into /etc/apt/source.list
# stable
deb security.debian.org
deb ftp.us.debian.org
# testing
deb security.debian.org
deb ftp.us.debian.org
# unstable
deb ftp.us.debian.org
# experimental
deb ftp.us.debian.org
(remove the 'non-free' tag if you want rms to be happy)
(replace 'us' with whatever your country packages.debian.org
into /etc/apt/preferences
Package: *
Pin: release a=experimental,l=Unofficial Multimedia Packages
Pin-Priority: 1
Package: *
Pin: release l=Unofficial Multimedia Packages
Pin-Priority: 200
now
apt update
apt upgrade
apt dist-upgrade
(reboot to get the new kernel)
apt autoremove --purge
apt clean
Oh and don't forget to install apt-listbugs
I would not move from arch to Debian because it doesn't have AUR, the pkgbuilding is bretty good. Also I guess it takes less time to install what you need than uninstalling what you don't need.
>a piece of software that makes it less autistic and has no impact in performance
yep, that's good reason to use it
parabola makes it harder to install "non FOSS" software which is autistic, I mean if you are against non FOSS then just don't use it on any other distro
My internet speed is slow, fuck yourself in the ass.
I'm fine with my Fedora Xfce spin, thank you shill
trips of truth
good choice
