STAX SR-009S

buying expensive headphones is dumb unless your a DAW technician.

ear buds or any cheap shit up to 100$ is fine.

spending more than that on headphones I dumb when you can find cheap or free second hand speakers from the 90/2000s that sound way better.

if you really must fall for the headphone meme don't spend more than 300$.

>speakers

/hpg/, this is Amir: do not buy Schiit products, I repeat, DO NOT BUY SCHIIT PRODUCTS. Do you want to pay 2000 dollars for a DAC that loses to a Topping DAC that costs barely 1/20th of that? Do you want solder splatter on your DACs or amps PCB?

DO NOT BUY SCHIIT

topping is a chinese audio brand

what do they do

it's the politically correctly replacement for 'male/female' semantics in audio connectors. Now you have topping connectors and bottoming connectors.

absolutely no reason to go higher.

I only use earbuds because I have a massive head and wear glasses. No headphones have ever not caused pain after a few minutes.

Gayest shit I ever heard.

What happened to frog user and his dad?

audiophools love garbage

Ok which should I pick between Sennheiser HD 201, 205, 218, 429, 425, 437, 445, 457? all of them are second hand and they're just 7$

Attached: 1531304131908.png (1024x689, 139K)

Bullshit.

No shitphones.

Those are super appealing because they're so easy to get. How do they compare to a l700?

what do you drive with the wa2? and what dac are you using?

Never heard any of the Stax phones. I opted for these because like you said, they're easy to get, plus they have that sweet Koss lifetime warranty. They are lovely though. Not super detailed or anything, but their mids are absolutely to die for. They really pop with acoustic music.

Mostly just my Beyer T5ps. Piss-easy to drive, so they don't benefit much from this amp, but they pick up the amp's coloration. The DT770 Pro 80s really floored me by how much they improved with this, though. Mids got a little more lush, bass got really tight, and soundstage opened up a fair amount.

DACs, I never really bought into the ultra-expensive shit, so I'm just using a simple SoundblasterX AE-5 card.

>finally bought a pair of PortaMemes because always wanted some but somehow never got around to buy them
>Jow Forums said they'd be shit
>they're actually tons of fun

Bass isn't overblown like in many other really portable phones but it is most definitely louder than in others which makes it really pleasant to also listen to stuff at low volumes. With other phones I tended to crank it up quite a bit to have more bass fun, not necessary here.
The only thing I don't like that much is that the way upper mids are quite muffled but I prefer this over piercing SHIT that I experienced with phones of that price range.

All in all absolutely neato for 40 bucks and if the cable breaks (flimsy as fuck) I always have my solder iron handy.

Attached: KossPortaProClassic.jpg (1200x997, 198K)

stax are way better

They are okay.

Attached: Stillhavethem.png (639x338, 175K)

Personally I think the KSC-75s sound better. They keep that similar bass, but the upper-mids through treble are more present. Soundstage is also a lot bigger.

Still, the PortaPros are rad. I got these sweet beige ones just because they look even more retro.

Attached: porta-pror-limited-edition-rhythm-beige-676.jpg (1500x1500, 144K)

Still posting that edit? If you want to be taken seriously you should post a picture of them side by side with your Argons, but it's never going to happen because you are just a poorfag attention whore.

some guys literally drill holes into that spacer plastic piece and say this fixes the muffled mids of the PortaPro.
I'm really tempted to do it...

Attached: koss-pp-kramer-mod_424314.jpg (480x640, 121K)

I got a pair of portapros to mod and put inside earmuffs to make my own true noise canceling headphones like that one user suggested, will post pictures if it works out

nostaxers can't meme

Attached: 1530548574088.png (813x410, 122K)

I don't like the 75s because the metal diaphragm rings. The massdrop x portapro is the best sounding iteration, from my experiences but it could just be unit variation.

You know I have them user. Just admit I have them and you are wrong. 'kay?

We know argon user, we know.

I can almost afford a pair but I don't know what ones to get and I'm also worried I'll break them while I do the move I'm going to do this fall

That's one actual problem with stax, they don't fit in any headphone case. You can detach the cups and store them in a box though.

yea I have to fly halfway around the world too and have everything get checked into luggage on multi stop flights, plus I'd also need to get different transformers

Get a fiio A5 and some DT1990s

I already have hd600s and a pretty decent stereo receiver so I don't want to buy new stuff unless it's a big upgrade and only stax really interests me

somebody start stax rental service, please!
I want to know, but I do not want to spend more than $100 to know.

is there anything that's just like the Sennheiser mm60 but closed back?

px 200 is probably as close as you'll get

>all the good px variants are at least double the price or discontinued
why god

HD669, TASCAM TH-02, shell out $20 more for a Takstar Pro 82.

Use EQs

>feel like taking out some headphones I had put in storage for a spin
>pull out DT880

Fuck, they sound good. Maybe it's because I've been "spoiled" by Massdrop/Senn HD58X and its niggerbass and notreble, but I feel like I hear a lot more details with those. Also, the soundstage is a lot bigger, which is greatly enjoyable. I feel bad knowing that I will put them back in a drawer when I do the comparison with the DT1990.

Also, I do wonder, does the HD800 and its treble sound more like the DT880 than the DT1990 ? Because I've been curious about it, and I'm thinking that if it's closer to that than to the 1990, I may very much be getting a pair of HD800 soon.

tldr

Are HD800 more like DT880 or more like bassier Beyers like DT1990 ? Because DT880 good.

They're less bassy than 1990s yes

cool

Stax

no shitphones

Can you rank them based on the frequency of use?

I bought Stax and almost died, why did you lie to me Jow Forumsuys ?

Has anyone listened both the Sennheiser HD 569 and 579? I've only tried the 569 but I want to know how much more soundstage the 579 has.
