it's better in real world scenarios.

Downloaded Portal 2 today in about 1 minute and it maxed out at 850mbps in steam.

Google servers I find are generally not good for more than 300-500mbps.

>inb4 some fucktard with their fiber connection brags about only paying $12 a month for it

Yeah, I do. I live in some suburban california shithole where the fastest speed is 48Mbps both ways and I pay just as much as you do for that.

Yeah it's pretty good internet situation in the richer areas of the North East.

Great ping times too, 3-5ms ping to official valve game servers.

I pay $55 per month for 8Mbps

Valve has servers in all major populated areas. For me I get similar pings with the Sacramento server.

same but i get 300mbps.

Nope, not all. But a good number.

Especially dependent on YOUR ISPs routing. There are some big ISPs in the south that instead of routing to Texas and up routing to the east coast servers and their ping is 30+ms no matter what.

Some ISP just suck at peering arrangements and proper routing.

But that's already been established. I used to have 2mbps ISDN and the feels I felt coming from that would be what I'd feel if AT&T/Verizon/Comcast/Google announced FttP in my city.

At least it's really quiet at night and I can walk outside without worrying about getting mugged.

25/3 $100 USD a month 45ms+ ping anywhere

Rogers is giving me 500/20 for $35 Canadian

$70/month for ~950Mbps up/down

Phones taps out around half of it though.

Same, but we just got upgraded a few months ago to a "200" line that gets around 120 down in the real world. We were lucky to get 30 before that. If you're on Spectrum I recommend giving them a call, they might be rolling the same thing out in your area, and you have to actually call and ask them to change your plan if you were on Time Warner or Charter before the switch to Spectrum.

The only ISP that remembered we exist was AT&T. As much as I hate Comcast it'd be nice if they gave the Death Star some competition. Verizon would be a no-brainer and Google Fiber a dream come true.
