Overclocking
>Use PBO on Ryzen. Legacy overclocking is defunct on Ryzen 2#00X CPUs.youtube.com/watch?v=FC3fsVk9Sss[Open][Open]
CPUs
>R3 2200G - Bare minimum gaming (dGPU optional)
>R5 2400G - Consider IF on sale
>R5 2600/X - Good multithreaded work use CPUs
>i5 8400/8600k - Best midrange gaming
>i7-8700K - Best for 1080p gaming, but most expensive when factoring in delid, high-end cooler, etc.
>R7 2700/X - Best high-end gaming/mixed usage on a non-HEDT platform
>Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT

Motherboards
>Only Z300 series boards can utilize fast memory with Intel

RAM
>8GB - Enough for most gaming use
>16GB - Standard for heavy use
>32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this much
>Current CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal

Graphics cards
>GPU prices have gone down
1080p
>RX 580 or 1060 6GB are standard 1080p 60fps+ options
>1050Ti or RX560 for lower settings 1080p, or older games
>GTX 1070Ti if seeking higher fps & you have a CPU to match it
1440p
>1070Ti preferably with Gsync
>GTX 1080Ti if seeking higher fps & you have a CPU + monitor to match
2160p(4K)
>Titan V

Storage
>Consider StoreMi
>Consider getting a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & large HDD
>2TB HDDs are barely more $ than 1TB
>M.2 is a form factor, NOT a performance standard

Monitors
>Always consider FreeSync with AMD cards
>Lock to 72fps on 144hz non-Gsync monitors with Nvidia cards to prevent tearing on more demanding games
>PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING

1080p 75z casual gaming. Thoughts?

pcpartpicker.com/list/74Vkw6

>24" 1080p in 2018
>not even 144 hz
nigga get at least a 29" ultrawide if you gonna do 75 hz

What is that creature on the right?

I'm using 60hz 24 inch monitor now and im fine with it. For me 144hz is overkill for casual gaming

he is the AI known as gentoo

why do you need such premium components as 2600x, an x470 board, 16 fucking gb of 3000 ram? might as well get a second hand sandy bridge 2600k platform for thrice as cheap for 1080p 75 hz gaming

I wanna build a ryzen + vega, any recommendations?

I need a 32 core threadripper + 64gb ram, do I buy the motherboard + ram now and buy the CPU at launch or wait for new components to be launched with the CPU?

>looking for storage for my new build
>every single HDD and SSD has dozens of people claiming their shit died after 1-2 years of use
>mfw I have been using my current old ass 500gb seagate for ~8 years with no issues (other than that it's always been a slow piece of shit)
Are the failure rates really high or is it just an illusion created by a vocal minority? I could just get an SSD instead this time, but it'd probably be a temporary solution seeing as I'm not an arabic prince and the GB/dollar rates are ridiculous

Attached: 1530974781619.jpg (641x530, 25K)

So I just built/ordered this:

pcpartpicker.com/list/9GbDzY

Is it worth it to get a 144hz monitor? My friend says I will have low frame rate due to my computer build, and that I should buy a 60hz. But I feel like if I drop money on a monitor, I might as well get a 144hz. Is there a ~$200 option that may suit me? Should I just buy a 60hz monitor?

It's not that I particularly care to play at 144hz. I just have the mindset that if I'm going to drop the money, it might as well be on a monitor that will last me

1080p 60Hz gaming. 800-900$
Any change i should make?

240hz 1080, or 144hz 1440

de.pcpartpicker.com/list/H6pZ29

Is an RX580 the correct choice here if I'm planning to buy a FreeSync 144hz monitor later down the line?

Attached: 1525200674219.png (552x560, 162K)

You are gonna get above 60 fps with a 1060 in most games so get a 144hz. It's a nice thing to have even if you don't play games.
Get a cheaper b350 and spend the money on better ram

What's the best 2TB HDD out there RIGHT NOW?

whats the best thermal compound out there and can someone point me to some tests? i have the impression it is kryonaut but can not find comparisons

Is $240 US for a new 8GB RX 580 (Gigabyte) a good buy? Are Gigabyte a good brand? Never bought a Gigabyte card or an AMD card before.

yes, I recommend you to do it boi

what resolution? if its a higher one then 144hz is a bit much for an rx580, a vega56 would be better i think if you can get one at a decent price

show me a better PC build than this for gaymen
pro tip: you can't

this user is rightfor 60-75hz gaming you should get a Ryzen 1600, b350m mobo, 16gb of 2400mhz. You don't need more than that for non-high refreshrate shit. Even going forward into the next gen.

get a 2700x

Full HD is honestly good enough for me but I'm still torn between the RX580 and Vega56.

they're going for $210 on amazon. And no, honestly buying any 2 year old GPU is not worth it now. Everybody likes to shit on the waitfags but fucking seriously, it's been 2 fucking years now. The jump to next gen is going to be insane.
show me gaming benchmarks where the 2700x beats the 2600x by 10% or more. I'll be waiting.

pcpartpicker.com/list/vXtwq4

this isnt even a strictly gaymen computer. if youre going gaming only go 8700k

gtx 1180
$600

XD MY SIDES

>go 8700k
fuck that
I plan on upgrading my CPU at the end of AM4 life cycle. I'm not going to have to go through the bullshit of buying a new mobo just because I'm getting a new CPU. Intel can suck my fat cock

Then at least get an x470 instead of a b350

no x470 in microatx yet

do you go to lan parties or something?

Will RAM prices ever go down?

My bank account cries.

is it worth overclocking my 75hz monitor to 80hz?

no

Going to order these parts when I get home.
First build for 5 years, intend it to last 5.
Give me ONE reason why I shouldn't.

Attached: mybuild1.png (733x609, 42K)

Will also get an m.2 SSD, just forgot to put it on the list.

yeah unless it's seagate. seagate has issues, at least on their 3tb models. 2tb is fine.
if you want a long-lasting gf, get wd, hgst/hitachi just to be safe :3

Get red instead of blue, it's almost silent unlike blue.

I'd like some opinions, it's the first PC I've put together. It's for videogames really. The parts I really want your insight on are the cooler and the PSU. While I only included one 1080ti in there, I have plans to upgrade to another one somewhere along 2019, hopefully when prices are a bit lower. Would that PSU be fine for both of those? Also I'm largely clueless on coolers and really I couldn't find some sort of number to gauge how well one cools over the other, kinda had to go off reviews and checking what each comment had listed as their cpu in the build links. Oh, I'm not in the US, so choices are a little constrained by that. Thank you.

Attached: firefox_2018-07-14_14-26-58.png (841x695, 58K)

>buying 1080ti when 1180 is less than a month away
>buying any new nvidia card right now

Attached: 1506339107132.jpg (412x398, 61K)

Its called El Maestro de el Creatura

I know the timing is a little off, but my pc just died and I'd like a new one, now. I have no reason to believe that whatever improvement will be worth the wait for the new one and my country is particular resistant against price drops due to newer models being out, and the new model would be outrageously expensive here. So, really, that matters very little to me right now.
That aside, do you have any other opinions about the build?

Is the 2600X worth getting or should I just wait for what comes after? I use an i5-4570 currently btw.

whats the best itx mobo that can OC an 8700k to 5GHz with a noctua meme fan??

I think thats a really good price and a really good build, it's enough to destroy any game out now or out in the next year or two.
This is the ONLY reason not to buy it. The 1180 is a generational leap above the 1080Ti, actually you could probably buy an 1170/1160 and it could theoretically be better than the 1080Ti. But that price is really not bad... You could always sell it/upgrade it.

Is that the best price you can get for that card? It's the equivalent of £110 cheaper on Australian eBay.

1440p

i think that the vega56 is a safe bet and it will be relevant for longer

worth

At what price point € is the Nitro Vega 64 worth it?

Attached: Sapphire Vega 64 Nitro +.jpg (800x800, 71K)

>The 1180 is a generational leap above the 1080Ti, actually you could probably buy an 1170/1160 and it could theoretically be better than the 1080ti the 1180 will be close to par with the 1080ti.

A Jew

almost looks human

I just heard the term "blower card" when referring to a video card. I presume it's called that because it blows the air out? What's the other type of card called? And how do you choose which one to get?
Some explanation plox!

Attached: 1515600830302.jpg (374x347, 24K)

Hello pcbg, what is an acceptable temperature for a 2600x?
Mine is running at around 50-60 under fairly low load...

Blower cards blow
buy open air

Passively cooled?

Everything up to 80°C is fine, 80-90 is pushing it but still okay, above 90 is when you start having problems (the rated limit is 95°C IIRC, but in practice it could likely survive operating at higher temperatures than that).

Keep in mind that temperature readings for AMD cards tend to be wonky with software like Speccy. Use several different sources to check, especially your BIOS and that Ryzen software (I forget its name).

>Blower cards blow
>buy open air
OK, so "open air". So how do you decide which one to buy? Does you case matter?

is there a succ card?

>Cucksair and Anus fanboy build

So I am in a bit of conundrum.
My only focus and objective is gaming and ps3 emulation.
Which would be the better option?
Buying a used Xeon x3440 and a new 1050ti.
Or
Buying a 2400g apu and 3000mhz 2x4 ram sticks.
Is there a better alternative to all around the same budget?

Attached: AnadeArmas39.jpg (600x900, 57K)

>not getting a 1080ti now then upgrade it to 1180ti later

Attached: 1531373207634.gif (300x174, 1.4M)

it refers to the type of fan in the card. Blower style fans look like pic related. They don't really provide any benefit unless you're in a very small form factor and blowing air out the back of the card is your only airflow option.

There isn't really a special name for non-blower fans, since blower-fans are the exception not the norm.

Attached: index.jpg (300x300, 8K)

>Bleeding edge faggot
The 1180 will likely be stupidly priced on launch, meanwhile the 10 series will see a reduction to move the bulk of inventory out of warehouse (Gotta get rid of that oversupply they made for Crypto).
Current games aren't going to see any major benefits from the 11 series. Gaymers can play through that ridiculous backlog whilst they wait for non-reference cards, real benchmarks not being pushed by shills, and possibly some Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale to finish their ongoing builds.

Suggestions? For gaming, light work and hoping the missus doesn't accidentally destroy it doing her online shopping (any parts missing I already have)
Planning on upgrading my current GPU later this year to 1070 or 1060 depending on what the prices are and getting another 2 4gb sticks

Kind of thinking of this, since it comes with bluetooth? Or is this a waste of money?

Whoops

What's better; one stick of 16GB ram, or two of 8GB?

>There isn't really a special name for non-blower fans, since blower-fans are the exception not the norm.
it's called an open cooler

2x8

actually you have a point. nvidia has their upgrade plan where you can pay a bit to upgrade your old card to the latest greatest.

I said that, because I lived outside the US, part choices were restricted. Did you not read that part before memeing?

Thanks.
Now I noticed that my core voltage when idle is around 1.42v, but then (in Ryzen Master at least) it goes down to 1.35-38 when stressed. Weird.
It is all on defaults/autos.

My mobo is an msi x470 gaming plus

Help

only LEDs I cant turn off are in my damn ram sticks, but the deal was too good to pass on

Just work a little longer and you can afford all you need. Half assing it when you're so close will lead to regret later on. Gayming and immolation wont be going anywhere.

I'd get Vega56 for 1440.
Even the RX580 is often really good at 1440p, except for all but the most demanding games that you'll have to play at higher settings.

But it also depends if you're just fine with anything in the 75-144fps range, or if you're looking to get as close to 144fps as possible.

Just get the 56 for gaming. They're clock-for-clock the same in games.

2400G is much, much better than the Xeon x3440. Not sure why you're considering an old 45nm Xeon to begin with.

1050ti is obviously a more powerful GPU, but emulation, especially PS3, is more CPU demanding. You could add a GPU on later if you feel you need it, whereas you're way more stuck on an old platform with a x3440.
Blow me

>mATX board in huge ATX case

>mATX board in huge ATX case
>not mATX board in huge ATX case

>>mATX board in huge ATX case
I think he was just suggesting the mobo was too expensive when you don't need to spend the extra money when you could just stick a usb with bluetooth

het guys, is this overkill? 5 year old pc and going to get this, titan xp instead of the 1080 but everything else as is.

scan.co.uk/3xs/shared/0b1e5a1f-14b4-45c4-bf77-9b4dd37cc761

also that you don't need an atx board if you only have a gpu.
if you NEED an matx case, fucking go for it. but i've never seen a matx specific case worth the price with a really fucking good build quality, so i just suggest atx cases because they're not really that much bigger unless you're getting a fucking mini tower.

if you want a mitx desktop like a bitfenix prodigy, that's cool too but again you're pissing money on an expensive-ass motherboard when you could get amatx for cheaper without a lot of extra nonsense and just slap it in a atx case and nobody has to know that you didn't fill the fucking case, which doesn't even matter because most atx cases support eatx anyways so your atx board doesn't fill it either.

Is 1440p a meme for gaming?

Its nice for desktop tasks and browsing but in games I don't notice anything looking much better than 1080p, the only noticeable difference is the upwards of 50% FPS loss lol...

Yes, but in that case you should be getting a smaller case.

>scan.co.uk/3xs/shared/0b1e5a1f-14b4-45c4-bf77-9b4dd37cc761
Why is your work PC so gamer faggy looking?
Why are you using Optane without StoreMi?
Why 7900X instead of Threadripper?

>is better quality image a meme
Maybe you should spend your money on an optometrist, anyway, if you can't see a difference between 1080p and 1440p.

look at this selection desu. 6 pages of atx cases, 1 page of matx specific cases. get fucked if you think it's worth it for style.

an atx case won't gimp your performance at all and makes more sense just for quality of construction and price over any matx case on the market.
no. it's amazing.

Attached: 2018-07-14_16-23-10.png (2560x1440, 313K)

other than that, phanteks and nzxt don't even make matx cases. so if you want something in that style you're pretty stuck with an atx case anyways. and again it's not like someone's gonna rag on you about your case selection in person, just online where they can't even see inside your case. i'd be MUCH happier with a phanteks over a corsair 88r any day, even if it meant my motherboard was smaller and didn't have pcie slots I NEVER USE ANYWAYS.

I have a dell computer with ryzen in it. the motherboard bios doesn't have lots of options. how do I overclock the ram?

>8400 back in op
