Hello, I sent my laptop in to get the keyboard and mouse pad replaced and Lenovo broke my hard drive connection. How can I get this fixed without giving Lenovo $500?

Post your ThinkPad addiction collection.

>256 SSD

>FHD display?
>i5-8250U
should I wait for the A485 to release in 3 days and buy that?
i want to use it for college and gaming my major is nothing computer related :/

you should buy the E485 its best

who ever makes these threads really should mention the special thinkpads made by some chink in Shenzhen

Does the battery life get better with the updated processors?
I'd like better than two hours on my x201s.

>My new $1700 Lenovo Thinkpad has the worst keyboard I've ever used. Not only do the keys rise 1/8" from the keyboard, they bottom out another 1/8" down. The keys are also incredibly loud. It feels and sounds like an old-school mechanical typewriter. Unless you rarely use the keys or type very slowly, it's useless. Everyone told me not to buy a Lenovo and I should have listened. It's a total waste of $1700.

is this random commenter right?

we certainly need more than that, not everybody knows chinese

here ya go mu dude

>X230 running Manjaro + Budgie DE
>T430 running Win10 because it just works(TM)

how do I order the x210 from them and can I really trust them?

a.) weidian.com/item.html?itemID=2247042080
b.) yes, there are reddit reviews of people buying their shit internationally. Also I can never understood why be skeptical about buying stuff online, you can always just undo the transaction by calling ur bank

you need to sign up to the forum and give them your id when buying it
also you might want to follow this dude's mod in shrinking the bezels

oh so I need to buy a x210 chassis or something?
sorry its my first time and im not very knowledgeable about laptops just want the best bang for my buck >_

More mindless consumerism!

Is that a thinkpad to begin?
Motherboard is kill. Use the DVD drive or change the motherboard.

>thinkpad from 8 years ago
>cut out the giant ass bezels screen bezels to fit a higher rez wider display
>chink handmade special motherboard with new cpu
>runs Linux distro

apple is mindless consumerism, this is informed consumerism

Looking at an X40 without a hard drive. Only 40 and I have no thinkpad but this is good on my budget. Is it a good buy for a beginner?

>consumerism is bad
>>>/leftypol/

300-400 euro. uses programming some games like rs3. Any recommendations?

>Not only do the keys rise 1/8" from the keyboard, they bottom out another 1/8" down.
Dunno, you tell me.

I want a thinkpad collection.

>A485 to release in 3 days
Fuck what, how do you know it's getting released in 3 days?
I've been following this laptop at an autistic level for months and all I've been able to find was "July" for an indication on its release.

Why do you think the E485 is better than the A485?
I'm concerned about it's build quality, but I can't quite decide between either of them.

reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/8jejl4/thinkpad_a285_a485_officially_announced/

For those interested, the E485 and E585 Ryzen ThinkPads are finally available in the US.

lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-e-series/ThinkPad-E485/p/22TP2TEE485
lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-e-series/ThinkPad-E585/p/22TP2TEE585

Sadly, the A485 is still "Coming Soon."

lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-a-series/A485/p/22TP2TAA485

I really need a new laptop soon for programming and light, casual vidya. So it's hard for me to decide to cave and go with the mor affordable one, or wait for the better and more expensive one. Especially if the A485 ends up not costing much more than the E485.

7/18 refers to the month and the year...

>AMD Ryzen™ 5 2500U
trash and I would wait for the A485 unless its over 1k then buy T480 thats what im doing

>he doesn't remap his keys
>he uses capslock

no he was talking about the day

Are the keycaps in thinkpads ABS or PBT?

>no he was talking about the day
No, Lenovo literally always makes their release days Month/Year. They rarely, if ever, even announce the specific days, they just randomly release it in the announced month.

Where's my princess?

Attached: FaceApp_1528339143524.jpg (1280x1280, 680K)

Yes, t550

Can i get a new board for less than $500?

How is the 2500U trash?
It's gotten great scores in benchmarks and it's not going to thermal throttle like mobile Ryzen 7s and mobile i7s because stupid laptop cooling.

Yes. Aliexpress has one for 354 usd.

Do any of Panasonic laptops have trackpoints?

Why the fuck doesn't lenovo just make more thinkpad 25 style models? with the lovely keyboard, full of ports and full upgradability. It's not easy to get parts where I live so I'm not sure a used thinkpad is a good idea. anyone know where I can get a properly refurbished thinkpad with everything working? like the chinese link some user posted? it should ship internationally

Use the guarantee that they issue in their repairs.
Call them.
They destroyed your shit. They owe one.

I tried but they said water damage voids it and then i waited a few months befor i decided to see if i could fix it, that's when i discovered that they broke the connector and when i called they said i waited too long to file a claim.

Be careful with that x61. Don't let it too hot or glue will start leaking out of the display

You forgot that they use shit CPUs that they find on the factory floor and the mobos don't fit correctly

Around the edges of the bezel? Yeah there was already some visible. I peeled off the bezel and cleaned out a lot of it. It doesn't even seem necessary...there's like eight screws holding it together.

I'm going for the E485, just because I don't have money in my budget for the A485. Waiting for reviews to see how it performs and to see if waiting for the 2700U would be worth it.

It's not for holding the screen in, it's glue between the display layer

Between the glass and display?

Yep.
It's a pretty well document problem. Sadly you probably want to downgrade to a 768p display

It's lasted >10 years without much problem...I'll keep that in mind though.

#yolo

also for some reason the area under the laptop where the ram is located gets way hotter than the processor

Attached: fug.jpg (383x107, 19K)

Have you even tried their stuff?

wow post papes

>and Lenovo broke
If Lenovo broke it, they should be fixing it.

Damn, doesn't look like my X301 will be getting an upgraded board anytime soon.

>pc-110
Looks cute, I'd like to see more pictures. Can you install linux on it?

Not quite a thinkpad but has anyone ever used a Lenovo Legion Y520? I can get it for $500 down from $1.6k Australian, and it seems like it has really good specs for the price.
Should I get this? I'm mainly looking at something for university work and 2000 era games that won't really lag at all (currently I've got an Acer ES1-411 which is constantly freezing like a motherfucker even on Firefox with two tabs open)

Attached: laptop specs.png (617x513, 20K)

trademe.co.nz/computers/laptops/laptops

what should i get in the $200-$500 range?
I'd prefer windows for lightroom but would be open to running linux on something cheaper
need an ethernet port

Currently using a rpi as my pc lol
Thx

>Lenovo Legion Y520
I'd never buy it. But for $500 I can see why you're eyeing it off at least. Will it live on a desk or do you also want it as a laptop?

I'll be spending a fair bit of time with it plugged in at the university library, but also taking it around to classes and whatnot

Do these have 4g sim slot?

Can any X61s/t or X200T/s bros try running a PS1 game in mednafen and tell me if it's full speed?
My U2300 @ 1.2Ghz just doesn't seem to be cutting it.

Attached: 1531248015078.png (300x250, 22K)

What would be the MAX amount of money would you pay for a second hand Lenovo T430, 250GB, 16GB DDR3 ?

Are you actually in uni yet or looking to start? When I did my undergrad I set foot in the library about 3 times. Bought an X series for the low weight as I was carrying that shit all day. Finding a comfy place to chill with an outlet nearby is not easy.

Attached: mi.png (959x630, 68K)

ignore this chinkshit unless you're ready to deal with a world of headache, not necesarily because of the chinks but because of the complexity of the entire situation.
If you're not knowledgeable just pickup a x230 or an x280. Anything in between if the price is right.

>ignore this chinkshit unless you're ready to deal with a world of headache, not necesarily because of the chinks but because of the complexity of the entire situation.
Do you have a meme arrows story with these mods, user?

Should I get a T420 or a T430?

T420 no brainer unless you absolutely can't find them.
>Non proprietary battery
>Keyboard is better
>Literally same CPU power on the i5

>no usb 3.0

I'm literally on the same boat. Been waiting for the A485 for a long time already, the thing about the A over the E is that the build quality is miles better. The A is spill resistant and milspecced while the E seems more like a rebranded ideapad (which are really low quality builds). But I'm not entirely sure.

I expect the A to be 150 to 200 usd more expensive than a same build for the E.

Best thinkpad for music production? Will likely be using hackintosh for Logic Pro.

Why do you need to transfer files faster? You'll waste your time on Jow Forums anyways.

I hear that the Es have improved build quality, but they are definitely not milspec.

There was some user earlier that was saying that they were milspec was spreading wrong information.

>my user case is your user case
In my case I use external raids to almacen shit, including VSTs.
Not him, but its good to him to know what to expect.

Fuck true, I never checked the speeds of 2.0 vs 3.0. It comes handy when transferring porn and music to my chinkphone

I had one for a while with those exact specs though I did exchange it for pic related. It was nice. Keyboard was much nicer than most other gaymer laptops thought I didn't care for the trackpad. For that price, I wouldn't hesitate in your situation.

Attached: dell_7000.jpg (1230x1640, 1.44M)

wut, my old p3 can run a psx emulator at full speed

mednafen is a very accurate emulator and the X200T has a 10W core 2 duo user

Oh I see, why not go for something like pcsx or pcsx-r? If you're looking to emulate at full speed?

get a 2012 macbook pro 15, watch some tuts on how to repair it and maintain it yourself.

Yeah, personally I will buy the A if it becomes available in the next week or two, simple because for me time is a bit more important than money. But if I could wait a bit more I'd go for the milspec A485 simply because it's guaranteed to be more durable.

I tried PCSX-r through retroarch and it's still not full speed.
I'm really autistic about my emulators, I have mednafen setup and move the cfg file from machine to machine.

Attached: 1530932873144.png (689x795, 67K)

>$600 for a 5 year old laptop
so there's literally no thinkpad that'll do music prod with osx?

This, if you will not spend on an interface.

You cant, but don't expect marvels from the realtek shit that comes with it.
If you buy an interface, then buy anything thinkpad that has at least a full voltage processor.

Yeah, that's a good point. I'll probably wait for the A485 to see if it fits my budget.

I just bought a Yanec 7800mah battery for my X200s.
Did I fuck up?

>not sending files to and from your phone via ssh
Suffering

Waiting for the SOIC clip to arrive before I flash coreboot onto my x230. Loving this thing so far. Couple of questions - what's a good WWAN card to opt for once the whitelist is removed? I'm thinking of installing an SMA RF connector to use on top of it as well due to poor connectivity conditions I work in (if that makes any difference).
Would the FHD mod still be available on a custom BIOS/Unix drivers if I wanted to upgrade in the future?

Fuck you she I'll like whatever girl I want. BTW guy genuine OEM batteries you cheapskate.

I have a Thinkpad T420. It has a error on the startup saying detection error with HDD0. Can I fix this just replacing the hard drive? And if so; how? Im paranoid as fuck about static.

Are Thinkpads the Cuckbook Pro of contrarians?

Is it possible to upgrade link below with a x230 motherboard? ebay.com/itm/352401432177

what will you guys do when our thinkpads become obsolete?

As far as I know, you can replace it with an x220 mobo. Good luck!
