USB drive flashing software

So uh basically

>be me
>browse ubuntu docs
>find nice software

it's a crossplatform really nice looking usb drive flashing program.

link: etcher.io/

>j-j-just use dd loooool

yeah i know about that program you absolute gay

Rufus > *

look everybody, a retard.
(you) < *

use dd

dd if=/path/to/file of=/dev/sdXY

He's right though. Rufus is the best.

Literally use dd. This program has LESS features than it. Not to mention that shit is in electron and takes more space than the rest of my OS

>command-line interface
>experimental
>not building cli FIRST then a gooey on top of it
this is why modern application design sucks balls.

this

How hard is to just write something in C++ or even using Qt ?

>filesize almost 60mb
>electron
why does this even exist?

>etcher.io/cli/
etcher(){
cat < "$1" > "$2"
}

Can it do Windows?
I was gonna create a multiOS bootable partition on my USB.

What's nice about it OP? It has a nice looking website?

And a nice looking UI of the application.

That's it? What do you need to do other than pick an input image and output device?
This has to be the worst case of "gui bloat" since you are doing literally the same amount of work with dd, but instead do u have to use electron. And electron seriously sucks. Plus windows has Rufus so fuck off

OP, to clarify the "Electron" complaint, this program literally runs a mini version of the Chromium browser just to perform a basic function that can be done using dd: a tiny C program that we've had for decades.
I'm not even opposed to the idea of a GUI program for flashing USBs, but this is just needless bloat, plain and simple.

I'm not a person to complain about bloat but this one is plain ridiculous.

OP have a good time exploring Linux. The nice software is usually already installed on your machine.

>I'm not a person to complain about bloat
well now you are. welcome to the club!

I really like the program, and it's open sores but why on Earth is that thing like 200 MB?

LOL BUT NOW U HAVE TO SPECIFY THE BLOCK SIZE FAGET BETTER HOPE IT WORKS WITH YOUR OS ;VVVVV

etcher just werks on any media. too bad it's non-free though. It's a simple electron app so a foss one is probably less than a year away

You do not have to specify the block size in dd, but you can if you want to. Does this etcher thing let you specify the block size?

>LOL BUT NOW U HAVE TO SPECIFY THE BLOCK SIZE FAGET BETTER HOPE IT WORKS WITH YOUR OS ;VVVVV
Turns out the only retard here is you.
You literally don't have to specify anything with dd other than if and of.

on linux i like gnome-disks or dd better ,on windows i like rawrite32 better. Rufus if you need to install windows.

>one hundred and sixty-two point three megabytes of RAM needed for a 'dd' wrapper
Absolute nope, my friend

>meanwhile Rufus gets you a load of features while staying ~1MB in size and consuming less than 5MB of RAM when running

Rufus is the best and it has dd mode and just works.

this shit crashes on mac

I use "startup disk creator" and it works great!

2016 is calling

Most of it it's the electrum stillborn JavaScript monstrosity, I just updated to Rufus 3.2 apparently I been using 2.7 forever.

But macs don't have usb ports

Name me 1 (one) reason why this technically better than typing

dd if=image.img of=/dev/somedevice bs=5M conv=sync status=progress

in my terminal
>inb4 more memory usage is a good thing

>make a typo
>oops my filesystem is fucked

>Electron App
>Yeah, let's just use chrome for fucking everything

>tfw of=/ dev
nvidia level fuckup

>make a typo
Just don't do that, retard.

Only turbo autists use dd

that's some low quality bait son

This. Or YUMI. Literally all you fucking need.

>mfw idiots don't realize they can use cp instead of dd
cp is more intelligent at setting block size, etc. that's all I use. Just like dd, make sure the destination volume is unmounted.

# cp image_file.iso /dev/sdb

holy shit this is bad

what features does this have over rufus?
whats the performance differences?
do you cry yourself to sleep at night?

>mfw when op starts a shill thread only to get BTFO by sane people using rufus

fpbp

rufus on windows, dd on loonix and congrats on downloading your first chrome app OP

>he makes typOh's on the c-line

>until recently we were embarassed about the steps that involved flashing an SD card. There was a separate track for each Mac/Windows/Linux and several manual and error-prone steps along the way.
They have a good motive guys.
It's for ultra-normies, not for us... Stop the bullying

Nice reddit-spacing, cum-diver.
>yeah i know about that program you absolute gay
Either you don't or you're retarded. Otherwise you'd just use it instead of making a big deal of imaging a drive.

well if you know about dd why aren't you using it?

>op is a brainlet

when did Jow Forums get so faggy and useless?

NICE BAIT BY THE WAY

Electron would be good if it was one instance, shared across all applications. Good fucking luck getting everyone to use compatible versions and even more good luck making it any secure.
