For me it's 98SE

Attached: s-l1000.jpg (1000x563, 53K)

95 people who like 98 are poor people late to the party. there was no reason to upgrade from 95 until XP.

good choice

sup kids?

How is this even a debatable?

Attached: win_nt.jpg (442x293, 31K)

best startup theme too

I'll rank 'em:
1. 98
2. XP
3. 7

...

me too, it was the most customizeable and hackable windows, with tools like 98lite you can gut the bloat of that OS down to a few hundred megabytes,

while win 7 and 8 and 10 take up gigs of disk space, what a bloated shit tier OS windows has become, even my Linux install does not come close to what windows is

/dev/sda1 21G 7.0G 13G 37% /
devtmpfs 16G 0 16G 0% /dev
tmpfs 32M 944K 32M 3% /run
tmpfs 16G 27M 16G 1% /dev/shm
cgroup_root 8.0M 0 8.0M 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
/dev/sda2 209G 33G 176G 16% /home

This, desu.

Have you ever thought about using a comma?

I don't understand these retarded threads.

i really like big heavy sash windows because you can turn them into guillotines

linux might be for you instead bro

98 was the most vulnerable Windows ever.

Millenium unironically, had it for 6 years

No love for 2003 Server?
Had it on my desktop for ages.

I see your point, but, you know, all versions of windows so far have been exploitable.

Also, it was very fun to write programs on 98.

Install Gentoo 2005

Attached: gentoo2005.jpg (1440x900, 201K)

You're all gay.

Attached: maxresdefault.jpg (1024x768, 130K)

There's no such thing as a Gentoo 2005 since there are no Gentoo releases. Gentoo is a rolling distribution.

Not Windows

Neither is Windows 10. Neither is Windows 7. What makes Windows Windows other than the desktop shell and applications? Nothing. No one gives a shit about logos and branding.

Kino

It just works

Attached: win10.png (1024x576, 499K)

They suck shit at aligning gui elements

Is this an LGBT speech?

They barely have an working Kernel and you expect them to have a good looking gui? Windows user detected

Are you a faggot?

OS/2

We are all faggots in this blessed day

8.1

Cool

How's being 12 and a virgin in 2018 feel like?

Fucking kek, look at the hardcore hacker over here

gay

Ahh, the edgiest distro

Ugh! Windows... But when I have to use to use it for something, I have a spare laptop with Windows 7 Enterprise on it. After Win 8, to me, it just seemed to get more and more bloated.

thid

what wm

Unironically the last good one.

If you put proper time to trim a lot of fat off, Win10 is actually great. It's as if the backend is absolutely flawless, but the frontend is an abhorrent mess of spyware, spaghetti code and social engineering.

How do you trim it?

Attached: proxy.duckduckgo.com.jpg (737x535, 85K)

is there a guide to optimizing W10?

Ask our corporate overlord Google

I wish to know these things too, about to do a fresh Win 10 install.

what will mom say when you deleted her travel photos "by accident"?

This should get you started

>8.1
>XP
>7
>98

aahh the memories... Correct me, but i think this is the only OS where you could set dedicated sounds for start-drag, dragging and dropping icons.

>Windows 95 install guide
I bet you feel pretty smart don't you? You're probably that guy using backtrack Linux
Fuxking children...

Seriously tho, read it up. Also note that Linus also installed some tweaks to make his win10 look like 7, which you can ignore

>Also... Linus... which you can ignore
Done.

hes not memeing. the thread is actually Win 9.5 but you cant put a period in the address. read the link

Win10, 8.1, XP
I use GNU/Linux, so I don't have too much experience with Windows, but I hate Aero so that effects my decision.

8 is the not the same as 8.1
8.1 is the best Windows ever made

Attached: Windows 8.1 A E S T H E T I C.jpg (385x385, 13K)

Prob 95, NT was rough, maybe XP? sp0 was kinda rough though too...

This or 2000 Pro

There are ancient people here that were born before 1990 so this is how they reminisce on their childhood. Fucking ancient fucks I wonder why they haven't killed themselves.

Millenium was the best

The 30 year old boomer meme is real.
My first was 3.1
Second was 95. Proudly updated this to 98
Best was 2k pro, stripped and with slip streamed patched and service packs.
Everything after 2K was utter shit. Been almost exclusively on Linux since.

Whistler.

based and redpilled

Can't believe it took this long into the thread for this. Kino operating system. The hardened, no-nonsense version of XP pretty much, I still see it used to drive EPOS systems and receipt printers.
Generally, NT 5.x - the XP family - was the best version of Windows.

This made me switch from Linux back to windows.

For server OSs, Windows Server 2008 R2. God what a great server operating system. Lightweight and gives you pretty much all the utilities you need to manage your server out of the box. Very automation friendly. I miss doing enterprise software installs on Friday nights starting at 6 PM and running upgrades throughout the weekend. Sigh...

Desktop: Windows 7. Mostly for the visual experience, although I'm not a fan of the task bar or start menu. I actually like Windows 10 quite a bit too but it's too bloated and the weird dumbed down settings menus that have a different skin from the control panel etc are really fucking stupid.

Attached: win2008ws_r2_rc_01[1].jpg (720x540, 94K)

Are you me?

>worse version of 95
>worse version of 2000
>basically the same as Vista

helo this my are favorite version quick
7

98SE was a damned fine OS for what it was, then Windows 2000 Professional rolled in and that was pure awesomeness. I did use XP Pro until XP Pro x64 came along and that was - and still is - the fastest raw operating system I've ever had the opportunity to make use of. Stuff that I did with XP Pro 32 bit was basically 20-30% faster with XP Pro x64 on the same hardware, it was just screamingly fucking fast like nothing else ever has been to this day.

But of course overall the best OS Microsoft has ever created is Windows 7, hands down, bar none, fuck you and everybody that looks like you if you disagree.

Windows FLP is a must know, used it with Steady state another MS tool ...

Windows ME

Not even MEMEing

Agree on 98 vs 95.... but 98se? now that was gold.

Best theme Microsoft ever came up with. To this day I have no idea why they replaced it with Luna.

windows 7 no contest. 95, XP, and 2000 were also very comfy.

least favorite is probably windows 10 with 8.0 and vista tied for 2nd worse

Wow it looks really nice. If W10 looked more like this I'd love it.

Using it myself, but it isn't any good.
Also, 7 was the best Windows.

Attached: desktop.jpg (1920x1080, 76K)

1. XP
2. 7
3. 10

3.1.2

the incredible machine was a GREAT game that came preinstalled.

Not boomer here. What made Win2k exceptional?

Same here. I want to install it, but I'd need an older hardware
>tfw you will never go back to early 00s, when there were far fewer normies and regulations on the internet, and everything was simpler

This post made me listen to all start-up sounds and then I ended up setting the longhorn one as the start up sound on linux. 95 start-up is good too. I might like FOSS but growing up windows betas were fun.
Now get of my lawn.

Looks professional (so better than what came after it) and rock solid (better than what came before). It was Microsoft's peak. Like a "smart" kid in highschool getting all As in last year and then getting destroyed in university and becoming an illiterate degenerate.

For me, the best of all time

Attached: Windows-XP.jpg (1280x720, 200K)

Windows 7 is garbage.
Exactly the same as Vista.

2000/XP were the peak WindowsNT.

I was born in 1983. First os was Windows 3.0/MS Dos 5.0. So for me it goes like this:
1. Windows 3.0/3.1/MS Dos 5/6
2. Windows 95B
3. Windows 98SE
4. Windows 2000
5. XP Pro
6. Windows 7
Server os:

Server 2003
Server 2008 R2

Server 2003 really was the complete server os, even had e-mail server with it. Basic e-mail, but still working as a fully functional e-mail system.
Windows Vista and 8 onwards just suck. M$ really seems to be on a roll "dumbing" down windows and making the whole user experience just god awful in the process. All that "flash" to do the basic same shit that has been done in 1996. Ex: internet, office work, etc. See desktop, see icon, click icon to run program. How fucking simple can it get? MS seems to think it's to fucking hard so they bury the shit on tabs or some other shit.
