The second season was only crammed because they knew it was all they were going to get thus S1 having 12 episodes and S2 having only 10. They got cut off. Additionally a lot of the things going on in 2 were slatted for 3 but were forced into 2 to hold the narrative together and at least make it end on something like a correct plot. The money was well spent in my opinion and the fact that its a cult hit now shows how revolutionary and well researched/good as it was.
