I own a X230 and W520, one for school and home respectively. I feel like I want to to sell both for one for school/home. Any suggestions? W520 is too big to lug around and my X230’s display isn’t as good as i want it to be.

sell both, buy x201 and upgrade ips, when you save up enough, buy an i5 8520u

>no x210t
I want to give chinks my money but they don't want it.

Blame Jewtel for using ULVs instead of full voltage processors.

Got a t440p recently and today all of a sudden it won’t boot.

Getting a 2100: Detection error on HDD0 error. After exiting that I’ll get: PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable. PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.

Lenovo Diagnostics doesn’t show a storage option.

This means that my storage isn’t being recognized right?

Apologizing for dumb tech support question.

I mean battery life is also important unless you're a total NEET

Update x230 to ips
Dont be autistic as

If it had like 3h you'd have a point but the x230 and its full voltage processor can last for a good while, even the T440p full voltage quad core approaching desktop i7-3770 performance can last for at least 7h easily.

my T450s has crushed it for years, great thinkpad, consider upgrading RAM to like 12 GB

I want a Ryzen laptop that has a good price to performance ratio and is as self-serviceable as possible for a laptop. Build quality and durability is a bonus, so long as it's not going to cost too much extra.

Given that, would it make more sense for me to get an E485 now or wait for the A485?

I mostly just need it for programming and I'd like to play some casual video games on it, too.

Budget around 1k, need it to have a nice style (not that usual clunky Thinkpad design) and nice keyboard. Preferably I don't need to install proprietary drivers. What's your advice Jow Forums?

My X200T just can't do it. I even tried completely deleting the config and having mednafen make a new, untouched one and pic related is still what I get.

What brand of RAM and SSDs does Lenovo usually ship with their new ThinkPads?

My x220 wireless card keeps randomly shitting the bed for no reason. tried it in 2 different linux distros to make sure.

really hoping a new wireless card is going to fix this since I need it for university.

plz halp

Might be your router. My x230 keeps getting booted off the wifi when 802.11n join (usually mobile phones with newer wireless chips).
Could also be the driver.

Since I don't know Chinese and Google translate is doing a rather shoddy job translating 51nb, can anyone elaborate what people are offering on there? Is it motherboards with current gen CPUs to be put into older model chassis, or do they sell them new from scratch? Has anyone ordered from anyone on there? What's the quality like?

You should try to actually enjoy your computer instead of treating it like just a tool.

Would buying a librebooted thinkpad off ebay be a good idea?

How do I make my school-issued Thinkpad T420 usable in TYOOL 2018?

Replace HDD? Either that or connection's loose somehow and you'd need to reseat it properly.

But i carry and use my 2007 Thinkpad every day.

Is an X1 Carbon 6th Gen almost maxed out really worth it over a Dell XPS 15 with far superior specs? I have only really ever worked on 'shitty' laptops, where a ThinkPad 13 1st Gen is the most premium I have ever had over a longer period. Is it worth shelling out for a price that is double of what I have now?

Can someone really try to sell me on either decision, because I am so split man.

Are you nursing it back to health?

It seems cheaper then buying a soic clip, jumpers, and some sort of flash programmer, and then having to buy another x200 off ebay.

No idea, still undecided if it's worth restoring.
It doesn't have a battery or a drive, the screen is broken and has a 2gb ram stick. Boots fine into the bios with an external monitor though.

Why don't you get an ugly but very functional GF so that you look like a l33t player huh?

Which model

Thinking of getting a X230 or X240, both with the i7 option. kinda just want these models because of the performance, are they that much worst compared to the X*20 series?

X61 Tablet.

If you don't like using a trackpoint or the thinkpad's keyboard get the XPS 15. It does look really nice. I personally really don't like touchpads, so I don't plan on getting any non-thinkpad laptop any time soon.

How much ram did you have? There's a nearly free X60 being sold nearby, but I'd rather wait for an X61 because apparently that one has a higher 8gb limit instead of 60's 3gb.
Also, basic search of ebay / ali shows that the higher resolution panels for these models are non existent.

Those new Ryzen stuff with Vega worth it?

Not expecting it to replace my desktop but I'm looking for something bang for buck and portable since i do alot of plane travel. I'm seeing alot of them sitting $400-700 depending. (Ryzen 3-7, Vega 8-10 if it matters).

I'm using 4GB, it can use up to 8GB but a single 4GB DDR2 SODIMM module is more expensive than the entire laptop so fuck that. Keep in mind the normal X61 processor is better than the X61T since the latter uses low voltage c2ds.
I don't really mind the stock 12" IPS XGA panel, it's not the best but does the job fine on both laptop and tablet mode in my opinion. You can buy the SXGA+ panel on AliExpress for $90 or so and install it yourself anyway.

On the other hand the X60 supports trannyboot for a truly free as in freedom laptop if you're into that.

The E485 with the Ryzen 5 2500U chip seems to be the most bang for your buck laptops, right now, if you don't care about having certain things like an amazing screen or milspec durability.

My only real complaint with it is that it doesn't have a backlit keyboard and you can't even pay extra to have it come with one.

A computer is a tool you fucking retard. Are you such a fag that your computer is the closest thing you have to human contact?

>if you don't care about having certain things like an amazing screen or milspec durability.
>amazing screen
oh man thanks for reminding me that the A485 doesn't have the WQHD screen. what's the fucking point of waiting now

Seems like there's cheaper options with near or better specs compared to E485 stock. Stock can be customized though a little better but eliminates the point. (+30 for a nice screen though).

Thanks for a comparison though, gives me an idea of where things stands. Anymore advice would be appreciated.

Probably ... I basically live on my computer

Attached: 1481052366949.gif (500x275, 365K)

Honestly, I don't get why people would want a great screen on a laptop. Some basic is good enough for me.
You can always connect it to a really good monitor, when you actually need better color or resolution.

What Ryzen laptop has better specs for cheaper?
I personally don't know of any off the top of my head, but if they exist, the surely aren't a self-serviceable as the E485.
While the E-series isn't nearly a great as the A/T-seties, you still get the ability to more easily replace things like the keyboard, screen, trackpad, etc.

should I buy this X1 Carbon? it's a 3rd gen, 1440p matte screen, 8gb ram, i5-5300U processor, 256gb m.2 NVMe SSD and he wants $800 CAD for it, though I think I can get him down to

>soic clip, jumpers, and some sort of flash programmer
>He doesnt have all of those in a nearby drawer.
fucking normies amirite?

Attached: b54g23.png (1273x715, 1.34M)

Seems really over priced.

P52s looks kind of nice but what use is a Quadro GPU for a home user

yeah? thanks for the advice m8, have no idea what these laptops run for.

What RAM and SSD brands does Lenovo use in the new E-series and T-series?

It doesn't hurt to have srgb color accurate screen in 2018. I had one on T470 and it was absolute crap

>x310 never
It hurts.
IIRC the original price point was pretty high for the 300/301 so not that many people bought them.

Attached: x301 motherboard.jpg (1000x667, 123K)

>but what use is a Quadro GPU for a home user
It used to be the case that Quadros were just GeForces with the Quadro firmware. They'd only have a very minor performance hit versus the equivalent GeForce. Not sure if that's still how it works or if Quadros are actually different hardware now.

>wants to believe this is sarcasm
>remembers this Jow Forums

Depends what you want out of the machine. I bought a T480s because my T440s survived so well after being left outside asleep in the sun, left on concrete (MBP for example would get scratched to shit), dropped a few times, etc. I take my laptop all over the premises at work so battery was important, and stuff like touchscreen and the TrackPoint I actually do use.

If you're not after such a "durable" laptop, and would rather a pretty screen with a softer keyboard, the XPS is for you. If you like all the business features like fingerprint reader, durable case, physical click buttons, ability to easily dock etc., then go the X1. Stuff like the fingerprint reader might not mean shit to you if it's a home / uni machine, but if it's going to be a work machine, you might find that kind of stuff useful.

I've owned an X220t, T440s and now T480s and can't recommend them enough, though they're not for everyone. Definitely better deals out there if you just don't give a shit about magnesium rollcage and nub mouse technology.

20's have the better keyboard, 30's are the nice in between model, 40's have newer tech of course (4th gen CPUs over 2nd) but personally I'm not a fan of the trackpad. 220's keyboard is better than the 240's, but not to the point I'd recommend a CPU two gens older, slower RAM etc.

Thoughts on the T460? I'm drawn to thinkpads but can't quite afford a T480/T470 with the specs I want (i7, 16GB RAM, 1080p, SSD).

pls post pape

Attached: dc3101aca848e637873fabb233ed4bdf.jpg (912x1278, 184K)

get the x230, better cpu performance than the x240 and x250 because it doesn't carry ULV memes and you can mod the keyboard

I remember the T450's had some real shit screening options. Double check that didn't continue in to the T460 lines.

Also as of the T440, Lenovo has tried to move the T4X0s models to be the more flagship model, and leave the T4X0 base models starting out with second-rate tech, most noticeably the screens. So be careful you buy an "upgraded" T460 as by default, their base config was far shittier than the T460s' base config.
