Overclocking
>Use PBO on Ryzen. Legacy overclocking is defunct on Ryzen 2#00X CPUs. youtube.com/watch?v=FC3fsVk9Sss

CPUs
>R3 2200G - Bare minimum gaming (dGPU optional)
>R5 2400G - Consider IF on sale
>R5 2600/X - Good gaming & multithreaded work use CPUs
>i7-8700K - Best for 1080p gaming, but most expensive when factoring in delid, high-end cooler, etc.
>R7 2700/X - Best high-end gaming/mixed usage on a non-HEDT platform
>Threadripper/Used Xeon - HEDT

Motherboards
>Only Z300 series Intel boards can utilize fast memory

RAM
>8GB - Enough for most gaming use
>16GB - Standard for heavy use
>32GB - If you have to ask, you don't need this much
>Current CPUs benefit from fast RAM; 2933MHz+ is ideal

Graphics cards
1080p
>RX 570/580 /w Freesync or 1060 6GB are standard 1080p 60fps+ options
>1050Ti or RX560 for lower settings 1080p, or older games
>GTX 1070Ti/Vega 56 if seeking higher fps & you have a CPU + monitor to match
1440p
>Vega 56 /w Freesync, 1070Ti if you already have Gsync
>GTX 1080Ti if seeking higher fps & you have a CPU + monitor to match
2160p(4K)
>Titan V
OpenCL work
>Vega 64

Storage
>Consider StoreMi
>Consider getting a larger SSD (better GB/$) instead of small SSD & large HDD
>2TB HDDs are barely more $ than 1TB
>M.2 is a form factor, NOT a performance standard

Monitors
>Always consider FreeSync with AMD cards
>Lock to 72fps on 144hz non-Gsync monitors with Nvidia cards to prevent tearing on more demanding games
>PLAN YOUR BUILD AROUND YOUR MONITOR IF GAMING

thoughts on these parts?

still need to put in a 2nd hd and will save $100 as im putting together myself. not interested in overclocking cpu hence the locked i5 and motherboard.

just using it for 1440p gaymen and porn

Where are you from? You're overpaying a lot here.

>$165 for windows
Top kek
I'm guessing he's ausfailian

out of the loop on motherboards, but do current ones come with usb c support? is it worth it to even have a usb c port on your pc?

Yes and use dependant.

Attached: 55076344_p0.jpg (637x900, 243K)

Looks like Aus prices to me.
Buy a Windows key elsewhere, and save yourself $80 and get a 1070ti. The 1080 is utterly pointless unless it's only $20 more.

yes sadly ausfalia

most 1070ti's are within $20 or less unless i go zotac or galax. the msi twin 1070ti is exactly the same price as that gigabyte 1080 i have so i figure i'd just go for the 1080

From last thread
I’m looking to make my own rig for playing games such as PUBG or less on recommended settings.
My budget is 750 USD firm. I need help deciding between an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 and an intel core i5-8400, though I’m fairly sure I’ll go with the intel core, simply for a higher speed, but that could change.

The rig i have set up so far is
pcpartpicker.com/list/JmPdxG

I want to know where I could make cuts, and keep in mind that I already have a 1TB seagate barracuda 7200rpm hdd from an old pc.
I need to either make cuts or try and swindle an ebay user for a $200 evga gtx 1060 6gb

What's the best bang for buck cases these days?

Back in the day it was the one of those CM HAF series but that was 10 years ago.

Now all these Chinese clone brands are popping up and compete with everyone so I think prices should be down.

The PC parts picker one seems outdated suggesting cases that are several years old and likely not the best bang for buck anymore.

>most 1070ti's are within $20 or less unless i go zotac or galax.
I used specifically the Gigabyte Gaming for parity's sake

Phanteks P350X

Yes get the gigabyte 1080 it shits over 1070ti

2x4gb unless you intend to buy another ram stick later on. Even light gayming will be cancer with one ram stick.

Ah, false flagging shitposter has arrived

>Phanteks P350X
Frontpanel is not MESH

just some anecdotal evidence, my mate has a 1080 in his rig and he can pretty much crank everything in pubg (yes i know how poorly optimized it is) up to max and it never chugs or dips below 60fps. other mate of mine has a 1070ti and there's a tiny but noticeable difference in frame rates. both play on 1440p monitors.

yeah i know it's marginal but just something to consider if it's important to you

I activated my XMP profile yesterday and it ran fine for a day while gaming and doing other stuff. I just bluescreened though literally just watching twitch. How worried should I be about it? I mean its just one bluescreen so it's not optimal for sure but it's also not a super huge hindrance yet.
>can I hurt anything by running the ram at the specified profile that the manufacturers made which uses 1.35v?
>If it is a problem is it fixable by manually upping the voltage a bit?
>Should I try looking for driver issues on my mobo first or should I immediately go to the timings?
My first time overclocking at all so I'm very new to all of this. It was a semi expensive ram kit that has samsung b-die so I kind of would really like to get the XMP speed stable. I mean it's been stable for a while and I did testing yesterday using some of my more intensive games.
>Is there a memory benchmarking tool that I can use to really test stability?

Still has plenty of airflow. The lack of Mesh isn't holding it back. If you need something bigger with more 3.5" HDD space and 5.25" ODD bays, the Enthoo Pro M is a solid bet.
The difference in performance between the 1070ti and 1080 is about 5%. The 1070ti was such a monumental leap over the 1070 to the point where it's almost at 1080 level for a price point in between the two. For example, the Cuda core count in the 1070, 1070ti, 1080 and 1080ti is 1920, 2432, 2566 and 3584 respectively.

...

new generation of graphics cards when

i've been sitting on my 970 for a few years now, but the prices for a 1070/1080 are ridiculous. i'm just hoping mine doesn't die in the meantime.

why would your 970 die? It's like a few years old at the most.

Looking for a new monitor
I used to use a 32 inch 1080 tv and it was ok, but i want something with a higher rez, maybe 144hz aswell

what does Jow Forums recommend?

Get a windows key from eBay.
Change to 8400 you won't notice a difference for the money

I use a 21.5 and 23" 1080 monitors right now

Update your bios to latest version

>I’m looking to make my own rig for playing games such as PUBG or less on recommended settings.
>My budget is 750 USD firm. I need help deciding between an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 and an intel core i5-8400, though I’m fairly sure I’ll go with the intel core, simply for a higher speed, but that could change.
You shouldn't get Ryzen 1000 series for gaming. The slower memory latency hurts it, especially on some indie games.

If Ryzen shit is still on sale, I'd go with the 2600X. It was $165 a few days ago, and then $188 on Amazon the past few days along with some nice boards on sale.
Otherwise, if all you play is PUBG and you're not streaming, an i5-8400 build is going to be cheaper.
>pcpartpicker.com/list/JmPdxG
Your build is rather price inefficient, however.
212 evo is not worth that much money. There are some decent Deepcool GAMMAXX coolers around $15-$20 which is all you need to keep the 8400 cool.
You are missing an SSD. Yes, it's a requirement.
$300 for a single fan 1060 is retarded. Doesn't PUBG run well on AMD since the updates to both it and AMD's driver? I've generally seen RX580 for cheaper lately. And you also don't have to worry about the issue of performance tanking with HDR if you upgrade your monitor in the future.
PSU is shit.
Get a 400-550w semi-modular or modular one. Should be able to keep it around $30-$40. Avoid any Corsair that's CXM or worse. TXM is fine.
Single DIMM of memory is going to stutter, especially in game like PUBG. Get dual channel. You should also get 2666 mem.
Get a cheaper board like b260 or h370.

Or really, why not just get a 2400G and add a GPU later? Doesn't it run PUBG on newer drivers at above 60fps, at least at 900p?

Is graphics driver crashing? Are you getting blue screens?
I'd try a new install of windows on another drive so you don't have to wipe anything if that's the problem, and see if it works there. It sounds like Windows itself fucking up.

>Is graphics driver crashing? Are you getting blue screens?
Nope, nope. At least that's not what it looks like. Everything just stops responding to input or not updating. Have to hard shutdown.
I don't know what triggers it so jumping to a fresh install is too big of a hassle, I might as well reinstall at that point.

I mean you can try simply reinstalling over your current install.

OCing it, plus anxiety of the thought of having to buy a new card since bitcoin mining became a thing.

Thoughts on this list?

Purpose: Gaming, web browsing, remoting into work every once in awhile

Wondering where else I could cut some corners so that I could invest in a good monitor. I have a 2TB HDD I'm getting from work and a 250GB SSD that I would be using from an old build.

Mostly gonna be using this for gaming/emulation (Breath of the Wild specifically). I also play games like Nier: A, Warframe, Fallout 4, Overwatch, nuDoom, Souls games. I plan on picking up Fallout 76 and Cyberpunk 2077. As far as monitors go, I feel kinda clueless. I was thinking I should go 1440p/144Hz but then would that mean I should get G-Sync? Or is G-Sync bullshit? What would be the best monitor with the games I play and the GPU pairing?

Attached: maybe01.png (774x671, 48K)

Thank god the trap-posting faggot is gone.

Get a used 1080
I got my used 1080 strix and it roxx

It'll be fine. Unless you're throwing hand fulls of dust in your case or pouring water on it, there's nothing to be worried about.

Unless you are flashing custom firmware onto card then the OC means literally fuck all unless you are running 90c+

If you got an 8400 and b360 motherboard instead you could use that saving towards a 1070 ti which is much better than a 1070. It's basically a cheap 1080 with faster than stock 1080 performance when overclocked.

You're gonna want an HDD as well, otherwise your SSD will fill up with all your junk files and will slow down.

Which board I should get? And which ones have the best cooling and bios?
MSI bazooka B350M
MSI mortar B350M
Gigabyte GA-AB350M-Gaming 3

Oh yeah and get faster RAM, preferably 2666mhz if you decide to go with the 8400.

As for gsync you probably won't really need it unless you're going to be dropping below 60 fps a lot. That's the only good use for adaptive sync. Just get any decent 1440p 144hz monitor which satisfies your requirements like TN vs IPS and all that.

eh, the temps have been around 75-80 for a few years now. i would have replaced it at this point, but since the prices skyrocketed i wanted to wait it out.

Out of those one from MSI as the heatsinks seem to be the only difference and that one from Gigabyte isn't great

Asus Prime B350-Plus
ASRock AB350 Pro4

Attached: 55441398_p0.jpg (637x900, 264K)

That's normal. It's not going to expire from lifespan any time soon.
>i would have replaced it at this point, but since the prices skyrocketed i wanted to wait it out
Why would you replace it? Going up in resolution?

How about now

Attached: maybe02.png (811x588, 49K)

75-80 is perfectly fine for an OC Maxwell card. Even most current gen aftermarket cards hit that under full load and it's fine they're designed to have tolerances. If you're worried about temps increasing then just get an air duster and clean the fuck out of the fan and then apply new thermal paste after cleaning the GPU with rubbing alcohol.

Don't waste your money on an 8600k/Z370.

Throw in some non-conductive thermal paste to lower those temps

That's fine. Keep the old power supply though. These EVGA B power supplies are just rebrands of shit chink power supplies iirc. Or you can get a seasonic which is the most reliable brand.

Hmm is that Asus good?

>Prime B350-Plus
Better than the alternative b350s.

Basically what said.
Unfortunately there wasn't really a super dupa board every could recommend when ryzen came out. Asus got their tendies by staying most active onto their bios updates. Asrock was assumed by most to actually delivered the best boards buildwise in general.

Also MSI has just gone to trash the last years, so i wouldn't recommend anyone those to begin with.

Attached: 55135569_p0.jpg (637x900, 335K)

Good to know what about gigabyte?

is it worth buying a GTX 1080 to futureproof my pc?

No the 1070 ti is almost identical to a 1080
1080 ti is a whole other story and just depends on when the next gen Nvidia GPUs come out. If you buy a 1080 ti now and the new GPU come out at the end of the year the it's a shit investment but if the next Nvidia GPU comes out in a year from now then it's a decent investment for the long term.

This , consider the Strix B350-F or the B350 Krait if they're cheaper. I haven't had issues overclocking a 1200 with the Prime and I've read it should be enough for a 2600X

1070ti is a meme get 1080 pls

What cooler should I get for my 4770k? What’s a good cheap option, so far it seems that CM Hyper 212x is highly recommended

Shut up faggot, pozzen is crap. Get aorus gaming 7 and 8700k, that's top of the line right now.

>future proof
>overkill GPU to "futureproof"
>overkill GPU to "futureproof" when example is EOL
nice fake news

Trying too hard

Doesn't matter when next gen will come out, it won't render the 1080 obsolete. Get 1080 for 1080p or 1080ti for 1440p 144hz.

Cryorig H7 is supposed to be a nice high performance middle ground between a budget option like a 212 evo and something like a dark rock pro 4 or one of the noctuas.

But yeah the 212 is solid. I have one paired with my 4690k OC and idle temps are high 30s low 40s and under load it hits the ~80s which isn't ideal but it's still pretty good for a budget cooler I bought nearly 5 years ago now. My pc could probably do with a thermal paste change anyway.

I posted here: I currently have 7/9 mobo standoffs installed. I have been trying for quite literally this entire day into the night to get the last two in, but I haven't been able to. The missing two are both in the right hand corner, so I'm rather hesitant to proceed without them.

What would my best option be? Returning the case would cost even more time and money, and I'm not sure Newegg would even accept it because I scratched the inside slightly with some pliers. I don't really want to go without the two standoffs due to their structural location. I considered using a power drill to drill it out and rethread it, but that would cost even more money since I don't own those tools, and then I definitely can't return it.

Attached: IMG_20180721_231459__01__01__01__01.jpg (4187x3456, 3.5M)

please, elaborate more on your claims

It'll "render it" a shit purchase because he could have waited a month or two and got over 50% extra performance for the same price maybe even more or the same performance for a much cheaper price. The 1060 is equivalent to 980 performance of last gen and the 980 was $550/600 and the 1060 this gen is $250. 1080 will be 1160 performance next gen most likely.

Nvidia GPUs don't age well.
Especially if you plan to buy an HDR monitor.
It's always something. Their drivers, not having features for upcoming tech or to run upcoming tech well, etc.

Why would you think the 1080 would age well when the 580, 680, and 780 didn't?
May as well say 980 and 1080 haven't aged well at this point either when they lose 10% FPS with proper HDR while AMD GPUs only lose less than 2%.

Best "future proofing" you can do is saving money and upgrading in 2 or 3 years. No GPU released the past 2 years is likely to age quite like the 7970 and 290X did.
If you really insist on over paying when you just have a 1080p 60hz monitor, then get a Vega 56.

Won't they pozz us with sky high prices? And the fact that nvidia has 100,000s of GPUs rotting in some warehouse because they made too many of those in anticipation of cryptocucks. Surely they won't flood the market with next gen hardware when they can milk us until stocks last.

And you can't put in the screws in why?
ATX is standardized, either the mobo is faulty or the case is, either way the trader in question has to take them back (for free).

Which claim? Buying an overkill GPU for future proofing is a waste of money (ignoring it being EOL and value/performance pitfalls that come with that)? Or claiming the statement "1070ti is a meme get 1080" doesn't bare any logical objective thought for reasons outlined here ?
This. Although we're responding to a blatant shitposter anyway.

Holy shit

Attached: 1499886590086.png (622x626, 78K)

I don't really care for top performances, I just want one that will last a lot, right now I play with a 7 years old gpu and 20~ fps, from what I've seen it doesn't cost much more than the 1070 and it does perform better.

vega is amds worst aging graphics architecture so fuck that. Terrible advice. Polaris and Vega are aging much worse than Pascal or even Maxwell. The 480 was slower than the 1060 at release and now the overclocked 480(580) is still slower than the 1060. It isn't even a single percent faster on average. Meanwhile OC 970s are matching 1060s. 980 tis are still a match for a 1070. Kepler was just a bad architecture overall and wasn't even designed for gaming. Don't compare that old shit to the new stuff.

Really? I've seen MSI boards recommended around here though, even in the last thread someone recommended the PC Mate.

What resolution/refresh?

>from what I've seen it doesn't cost much more than the 1070 and it does perform better.
>costs 10% more with 5% better performance
Your money I guess.

right now I have 2 1080p 60hz, will prob add a 1440p later on, I don't actually do much gaming, but I want to enjoy it when I do

Msi cards are top tier, their boards not so much.

They're dirt cheap, so they'll get used where money is tight. Doesn't mean i recommend them in places where i know that a better board is available for 3 bucks more. Also not everyone in this threads knows everything, myself included.

Attached: 56068060_p0.jpg (637x900, 228K)

The 1080 is actually quite a bite faster than the 1070. It's the 1070 ti which is basically identical to the 1080.

>will prob add a 1440p later on
Well that changes it. Although you'd be better off buying a midrange card now like a 1060 6gb/RX580 and saving the difference for a higher performing card down the track with what ever new implementation they'll have when you're ready to make the jump to 1440. Seriously, "Ray Tracing" or what ever the fuck it'll be called looks like tech worth waiting for if you don't need a high end card now.

A gtx 780 3.5 years ago for 130 dollars was the best purchase I ever did. That shit aged so well it was ridiculous. Used a fuckton of power but it did the trick.

We're talking about the 1070ti.

Ray tracing has been around for centuries.

God damn what a semen slurpur

Just not in consumer GPUs.

>retards think new Nvidia line gonna have Ray tracing
LMAO not even in 10 years.

>Just not in consumer GPUs.
Ray tracing is a software technology sided. Nvidia is only claiming Volta will be so powerful to actually handle Ray Tracing in real time.

Attached: 55057189_p0.jpg (900x637, 227K)

Then why does it need a nasa computer to process?
You realise the tech demo ran on a fucking 50k $ pc.

Not murrikan here, is this an okay build?
Shit will cost me equivalent to 563 US dollars. I'm gonna salvage my HDD and GTX 1060 and Seasonic G for power supply.

Attached: Capture.png (1310x789, 61K)

>buying that ryzen cpu while you have a dedicated GPU
what

>ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS for a windows key
buy it on ebay for 4 dollars

In case of emergency breakdowns. If GPU dies and can't find a replacement right away, I'll have something to use.

that is pedantic.
buy a cheap as fuck spare pcie gpu if you are that scared.

So I’m trying to upgrade from my 980 Ti to a 1080 Ti and I have a couple questions
1) What is a good price to pay for a used one that wasn’t used to mine coins (USD)
2) I currently have a 4670k which I imagine will bottleneck a 1080 ti, so will upgrading to a 4790k be enough at 1440p or should I just pony up and upgrade my motherboard too

My 1080 seller turned out to be a fraud so I'm gonna wait for the next gen. Well played jenhsun

is 24" too small for 1440p?
i'm worried that a 27" will be too large, I'm so used to tiny screens, I don't want to turn my head too often like it's the middle ages or something
