How the hell do a harddrive suddenly go in flames? It's the drive in the pic.

Because it's seagate

Post a pic of it

VLC doesn't have this problem

pic or it didnt happen

Were you using a molex-SATA adapter?

do you actually have it mounted or lying on the bottom of your case / suspended in mid-air?

that would be your old shitty powerstrip.

>Google image

Here it is.

>Jan 03

holy shit haha

>Seagate instead of Toshiba

>yet another victim of the crappy chinese molex to sata power adapter
LMAO

t. my bentium 4 almost burned my whole house down because of that (while it continued to run just fine, and still does run fine)

Fpbp.

Defective cable, mate

That's probably more of a short circuit burnt beause you use a cheap shitty psu

Attached: IMG_6116.jpg (300x275, 27K)

yep that's the cables fault, don't use molded sata power connectors but crimped ones.

So I shouldn't use those adapter cabels at all then? They came with my PC, but the fire with it I guess.
It's Corsair RM 850.
Is it really that bad?

thats fucked user, thanks for making me paranoid about my cables

Attached: 1331743501975.jpg (313x286, 17K)

Nope, that's a good psu, maybe the cable management wasn't good enough and the cable dragged inside the case making it get a little loose thus the contacts touch with each other starting the burning

>So I shouldn't use those adapter cabels at all then?
No, 6 to 8 pin adaptors don't work.

>seagate catches fire
>wd dies day after warranty ends
>hitachi and samsung apparently lives fucking forever

>So I shouldn't use those adapter cabels at all then?
hell no, unless you cant avoid it. ditch any that are a completely closed plastic molding around the cables on the sata end and get some that look like pic related instead

>Screwed mine into the mounting slot so it just kind of hangs there in bay
What am I doing wrong?

>let the PC run 24/7
>even when I'm asleep or out of the house
Bad idea?

yeah, for your electricity bill

That was what I was using.

wrong, visit your nearest optometrist

Tough choice desu.

Seagate more like Hellgate

Molex to SATA, lose your data

>Nvidia HDD
retard

>that /v/irgin who uses the cheapest PSU he can find

It doesn't pay to be a cheapskate.

Attached: chinked.jpg (1280x1920, 945K)

Cheap SATA adapters have a very high chance of arcing between wires and going up in flames. If you absolutely have to do molex to SATA, buy one with a crimped SATA connection
Anyway, doesn't the RM 850 come with SATA power anyway? Seriously how do you fuck this up so bad

kek

this

underrated post

your psu comes with the correct cable. use it.

How do you pronounce "SATA"? It doesn't really rhyme with "data" in my head (just the last syllable obviously).

Satan without the "n".

You can just put it to sleep. Although my Windows machine fails to fall asleep every so often and it's fucking annoying.
