Will we ever have smartphones more powerful than a 2008 lappy?

Bump

Yeah well my phone has 8 cores not 2 so that means its faster

>so that means its faster
Not necessarily
Core count is not speed
In fact, expect most software to not really benefit from multicore

need a GPU upgrade for better VR experiences but other than that, very happy

Hi.
Thinking of upgrading to 2700X, but I think I'll just wait for 3700X.

Pretty happy at the moment. I just need to buy a new PSU.

What do you mean by "not running anything crazy"? If you mean it's running something, then yes. If nothing, then no.

only things open are mumble, spotify (i know), and chrome. by "crazy" i meant something like a game or CAD

been wondering if i should return the cpu and get a 2600 instead

Attached: schpeki.png (701x526, 43K)

I'd get a 2600 just so you don't get titty slapped by older housefire CPUs

Attached: 2017-08-26-484.jpg (4000x2248, 1.25M)

Still rolling on fine. All I play is older games w/only demanding task is occasional video encode job. So I'm good for long long time still. Anymore I laugh at people who complain "oh my computer is slow" when they got a 8 core cpu w/ a 4GB ram video card & 16GB+ ram. Mine runs smooth as a babies ass. Maybe cause I don't tinker with it, perhaps, and instead just use it.

System isn't tweaked for max parformance by any means, cpu will do 4.6ghz without too much hassle (maybe more with some effort), ram atleast 2ghz (1000mhz in cpuz) on those timings and well over 4ghz uncore/nb aswell.

Just haven't bothered as I don't need more cpu power for anything, so it's not really worth the extra heat.

Nice!
Man you really make me feel shame for not putting my Rampage 3 to use and pushing my x5660 to its potential. I mean I have water on cpu and a fullcover block for the R3E, and I'm running air tier clocks..

Attached: Cb15.jpg (920x827, 154K)

>these delicious scores
Hate to see X58 make my 990FX stuff look like shit, but the FX has always been a good value until 1366 prices hit the floor.

Attached: 1523433903969.jpg (1038x1000, 140K)

Well if you have a board that is.. x58 boards are ridiculously expensive.

I whouldn't recommend getting a x58 system unless you actually find someone selling that isn't paying attention and you get it very cheap.

Tho if you have a board, you can get loads of power for fucking nothing, and the boards can fit more ram than you'll need.
Got the x5660 for $20.

>x58 boards are ridiculously expensive
That's why 990FX was such a great value, you could get a UD3 board new for 89.99 in 2016, 16Gb of 1866 ram for 79 bucks before the koreans started being dicks with it, and an 8350 for 150, which would perform ever so slightly more than an X5675, but now people are wanting huge money on ebay for a used 990FX board, let alone new.

I have a UD3 in the wrapper and it's basically my prized possession because I only paid $120 for it a while ago and people want a lot for their used one.

Attached: IMG_0248.jpg (4032x3024, 2.19M)

I just hope my rampage 3 doesn't die anytime soon, not that I think it will as it's cooled really well and i'm not pushing any limits oc wise.

DDR4 ram is so overpriced it isn't even funny to joke about, even used.

Not sure what I whould upgrade to now if I had to, I really like the HEDP with soldered ihs, shit ton of pcie lanes and all the bells and wisles, but even second hand 2-3 generations old stuff is still very expensive and whould still require ddr4.

Back in 2010 when I got x58, the midrange boards was often pretty cheap new, and highend boards very reasonable used, but cpu's being the expensive part for years.

I think I paid like $120 for the R3E with fullcover EK waterblock included late that year, which was a fucking steal.

Attached: gutsu.jpg (1596x3152, 1.39M)

Attached: speccy 4930K(1).png (3072x1080, 1.84M)

Now that is a custom motherfucking PC right there.

Eh, full cover waterblocks are a meme.

For the prices to buy one new I totally agree, but I basicly got it for free with the board and it keeps the vrm and nb temps far lower than the heatsink with no concern about airflow.

On todays boards you're not even raising nb temp when overclocking, so you only have to worrie about vrm temps which have sufficient cooling for the most part anyway, so you're litterally paying $150 for looks.

It's an older build, but I'm still not seeing any reason to upgrade.

Attached: speccy.png (905x649, 49K)

FX 8300 series still rocks, it's basically cut down Opteron, which is kinda cool because a cut down server chip on that server socket from intel costs a shit ton.

I whould definitely switch out them old gpu's tho, unless you're actually using it as a heat source with no need for more gpu power.

It's still great for what I use it for, which is music production and video editing/rendering, with the occasional game of CSGO from time to time. May upgrade to a ryzen 5 2600 when they start hitting the used market eventually.

The GTX 690 is actually still pretty powerful. In gayming it beats out the 970 when sli is supported. When it's not it's on par with a 960. In benchmarks with an overclock ice beat out the 980 with it.

Oh I'm sure it is usefull still, I was just thinking performance per watt.. Both in the heat you have to suffer and bills you have to pay, but if you don't use them much I guess it don't matter to a great extent.

Is it a Hades Canyon nuc? I need one of these, they have the best form factor for tiny systems. That is such an awesome setup. I had always been tempted by the Intel nucs, but the lack of quality GPU solutions for them was off putting. Who would have thought that AMD would be the ones to remedy the problem.

Yeah it's a Hades Canyon NUC.
