I really want to see more on this thread, but i think you posted it a bit late.

What monitor is that?

Here's my deskop.

really cool
It's an old Eizo I got from the hospital, it's really good only problem is 4:3

My low budget mouse bungee.
What OS is this?

what shitty games do you play?

>only problem is 4:3
Most people here seem to really like that aspect ratio. I like it for programming and basic tasks in general. Are you just put off by the low resolution? If so it can easily be fixed by tweaking UI elements to use less space.

OpenBSD with XFCE. The window manager theme is custom made with GIMP, the desktop overview is the fluxbox pager, and the "gr_osview" program is just xosview that I carefully configured .Xdefaults to mimick the real gr_osview.

The whole thing is meant to look kinda like IRIX 6.5.

this is actually pretty convincing to me
and it’s even got some personality rather than just being a clone of the default first boot desktop like so many of the retards running windows classic lookalike rice seem to have

Yeah, Motif has a lot of character to it. It's like a well worn wallet or an old wooden chair. It's just comfy.

Start menus and all sorts of panels are a waste of space generally. XFCE can be configured to show workspaces and windows using a middle click. Right clicking the desktop will give me the usual stuff along with an applications menu. Fonts also go a long way. Finds some nice bitmapped fonts you like. The base system doesn't matter. I'm a BSD fan myself but you could set up something similar on any Linux distro with XFCE.

I really like this thread. Battlestations are pretty guady and are more /v/. Workstations are definitely more Jow Forums oriented.
Lurking out of interest.

This seems really comfortable for long hours of work.

I'll be following this thread.

Your mousepad is bigger than your monitor!

DRUMPFFFFFFF

CS, and some PUBG.
other than taht I use some CAD application to layout houses and roofings.

most multimedia content these days is not meant for 4:3 anymore
pixel density is reasonable with 1280*1024 though.
the way it should be

it’s a very industrial and machine-like look, feels more like you’re using an actual computer and not the do-it-all lifestyle accessories we have now (which do have their place of course)

I tried doing something kind of like this with Xfce but lost interest and eventually found some satisfaction with a barely riced KDE setup that felt kind of like a modernized CDE+Sun GWM that I found pretty comfortable to use, it’s pretty neat you got Xfce to bend that way though, especially with the pretty faithful looking motif elements

>most multimedia content these days is not meant for 4:3 anymore
True, though I haven't had an issue with it except for YouTube.
>pixel density is reasonable with 1280*1024 though.
Yep. I'm going to order another screen with that resolution on Amazon sometime soon. My last one had caps that went out, so the display just flickers. By the way, 1280x1024 is 5:4, not 4:3, so you get a bit wider of a screen. The highest resolution 4:3 display I have is in one of my ThinkPads at 1400x1050. It's really great even today, and it's way better than that 1366x768 garbage that's infested everything these days.

I agree, and I really enjoy having a simple computer that just does the same tasks they did 20 years ago more or less. Maybe I'm becoming a boomer, but I can't stand flashy flat interfaces that feel like the sticker on a Fischer-Price toy. It's all so inefficient and tacky.

As far as the actual themes go, GTK is a bitch to program but can be done with a good amount of patience and willpower. The xfwm themes are really easy, since it's just xpm images with a themerc file. Then it's just a matter of choosing the right fonts and icons, configuring the window manager, installing and configuring your programs, and choosing a nice wallpaper. I also did a SLiM login manager theme. It's pic related with a dark grey background.

Not using a raspberry pi as your computer

Attached: IMG_20180721_140400.jpg (4608x3456, 3.94M)

hey guys i want to quit gaming.

what's the fasted cpu with a gpu which just handles 4k 60hz youtube content fine?

How well does it handle Jow Forums shitposting? I would think that 1GB RAM is kinda low for modern web browsing and the base system and the window manager. Do you max out the RAM often?

It is pretty decent actually. There is the tab number and heavy websites RAM limitation. But i can do everything i will do on a "normal"computer.

Neat

how does it handle hdr content?

fucken sexy display
how much shekels would I have to spend for that?

just use your current CPU+GPU.

It'll handle Jow Forums fine, but doing more, eg. youtube and normalfag sites is slow.

It definitely can`t

It cost me 200CAD on a bestbuy sale

Why would you even consider writing a phd thesis from what I think is geology not in english?

Also, why are you using overleaf? Is pdflatex to slow on the pi3?

Here's mine.

Attached: 14963546887191.jpg (1267x973, 791K)

In Brazil academic documents must be written in portuguese. The results will be published in english anyway.

I use overleaf because it is easier to edit the document across home/work/uni lab computers.

but i sold my computer gear already for better audio gear

srsly wtf

>The results will be published in english anyway
Ok, then everything is fine. In my field (math), everything usually is in english, but sometimes some frenchies think that it's a good idea to publish stuff only in french. We need another war.

>Not having a special 'mining' room devoid of every unnecessary thing expect for built-in stuff too expensive to remove, in order to maximize the revenue of your mining system

It's as if you're not even trying

Well, it is... minimal.

if you would quit smoking those god damned cigarettes you could afford a better desktop system

what does a pack of marlboros cost now? save that up for a year and go buy a new PC

Why?

I could buy a better machine if I wanted it. But a Core2 and 8GB RAM works fine for my needs, and I just don't care to have anything fancier. I'm going to buy a better monitor soon but that's about all. Maybe another mouse if this one keeps having sticky buttons.

Would you mind sharing your wallpaper?

Holy shit dude. Do all Russians live like this?

Eastern Europe in general, tech is pretty expensive comparing other countries like Germany but salaries are 10x less.

Usually people who post on Jow Forums have IT background so they are probably from better families but they are not representative of their country. They have more in common with IT people from Western countries.

But life here sucks, poverty, shitty jobs, coffee, cigars and cheap sugar and alcohol and gossip are 90% of lifestyle.

Good luck on your thesis, user! And neat setup.

>Eastern Europe in general, tech is pretty expensive comparing other countries like Germany but salaries are 10x less.
Can confirm. Prices in Eastern Europe are on par or higher than in France/Sweden/Germany, yet wages are several times less. Add to that usually high taxes and bills, and you're left with limited funds by the end of each month.

you dont need to be rich to clean your room

Bedroom isnt a place for gaming. its a place for business.

Also, you fuckers spend 20-30% on alcohol and cancer sticks. It's time to stop.

I've got one hooked up but the C3K won't detect keyboards attached to it for some reason so I had to give it one of its own, sucks but I can still share the mouse/monitor at least.
